Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit is one of the most anticipated films of 2012, and it definitely has a major presence at the 2012 Comic-Con. Walking the convention floor, it’s impossible not to notice the impressive array of 3D posters, collectible figurines crafted with intricate detail – and some (literally) larger than life sculpts of the fantastic creatures from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, such as the fearsome Stone Trolls.

In honor of Middle-Earth’s importance to geeks everywhere, our own Paul Young went out an shot as much Hobbit as he could. We’ve compiled the images in a hefty gallery. Scroll down to see it.

Check out the Hobbit promo materials found on the Comic-Con 2012 floor:

All of the major players are represented, including the entire troupe of dwarf warriors that will accompany a young(er) Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) to confront the dread dragon Smaug. The pictures don’t do them full justice, but trust us when we tell you – the 3D posters are stunning to see in real life. No word yet on WHEN they will go on sale, but if you’re a true Hobbit fan, you’ll want to keep an eye out.

I just re-watched the Fellowship of the Ring, and when Bilbo finds the ring he’s wearing a navy blue jacket. It seems that he has that red jacket most of the time in the Hobbit. I hope they didn’t overlook any small details like that…

Why? It’s all that was in Fellowship, small details

Kili and Thorin, the handsomest Dwarves in all of Middle-Earth…….ever.

      Thorin looks like a Klingon.

I guess we’re not seeing any images of Smaug because that comes out in the second half of the movie.

I wonder at what point in the book the first half of the movie will end.

When they get to Laketown after the part with the barrels is when they’re ending it

i don’t understand how is it, that Thorin and Kili are these swashbuckling dashing dwarves? how does that pan out? there are sexy dwarves out there? thats news to me…

While no one involved in the project will openly admit to it, they turned both of them into shall we say “pretty boys” for the female audience to swoon over like they did Legolas and Aragorn for LotR. I guess they didn’t think the the fairer sex would be willing to see a show featuring 13 “ugly” Dwarves, a “homely” Hobbit and an old man?

Without seeing the names of the dwarves on the pictures, I would have guessed Thorin was Beorn and Kili was Bard. I can’t agree with the decision to make them so radically different than the other dwarves, even a “half orc” looks as little as a human as an orc, so “diversity” within the dwarven race is a cop out.

Yea, “IF” that was the reason, then I’m a little disappointed about it, too, but hey, not all humans look alike either, so really not a big deal. Can’t have everything you want in any film. I’m sure for others, their look is just fine.

While there is very little that I can say with 100% certainty, I can say with confidence that IS the true reason as sure as I am the sun will rise tomorrow.

Thorin should look like a grizzled OLD battle-scarred veteran. His description is very explicit in the book and they well understood what a Dwarf should look like (see ALL the other Dwarves in the group). So to change him the way they did, there is really only one reason; To make the leading “man” a virile and charismatic figure.

Kili is Fili’s brother and both should have blond hair. They also had no problems giving Fili some Dwarf characteristics but not Kili?

So in actuality Thorin is to The Hobbit what Aragorn was to LotR while Kili is the Legolas of the movie.

It’s not hard to understand why they introduced variety into the 13 dwarves. I mean, maybe it’s hard for SOME to understand, but that’s their problem. 13 characters that look exactly the same doesn’t work for film, and I’m glad they’ve mixed it around a bit.

People should be able to realize there’s a difference between “Here’s what I want my dwarves to look like” and “here are other options that are just as valid.” People think their personal view dictates what is valid or viable, when in fact it’s possible for something to different than their personal choice and still be valid.

If you mean the one with Gandalf walking alone, yes, it is a beautiful scene. I’d love to be in that world, walking with him into whatever adventure!

Of course, these trolls look completely different from the glimpse we saw of them in the FOTR special addition. Just saying…
