On the road trip to said facility, the group is ambushed by a group of criminals (led by John Goodman) and tasked with finding flamboyant gangster Leslie Chow. Now, the chronically unlucky friends must track down Chow and avert their own deaths.
The Hangover Part 3 is written and directed by Todd Phillips, who oversaw the previous two films in the series. This last escapade reunites much of the trilogy's cast, including Ken Jeong (Pain & Gain), Zach Galifianakis (The Campaign), Ed Helms (The Lorax), Bradley Cooper (The Place Beyond the Pines), and Justin Bartha (The New Normal).
Previous previews for The Hangover Part 3 have emphasized fragmentary imagery and individual moments of weirdness, avoiding the impetus for the film's shenanigans. By contrast, this trailer goes out of its way to tell audiences exactly what drives its hapless protagonists back to Las Vegas.
Though it eschews the darker tone of its first teaser, The Hangover Part 3 seems to confirm that the movie will not simply be a rehash (like its immediate predecessor). Admittedly, some of the gags don't quite work out of context and the more fantastical elements (i.e. – Chow paragliding over Las Vegas) distract from grittier moments. That said, The Hangover Part 3's fresh approach makes it look like it may be worth giving the franchise one last chance to recapture its initial magic.
