There’s only a few weeks to go until the Seth Rogen superhero movie The Green Hornet hits theaters, and over the last few months we’ve had plenty to get us excited about the movie, including three action-packed TV spots.
But in case you need more to convince you to see The Green Hornet in theaters, you’re in luck as Columbia Pictures has released a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette for the film.
The Green Hornet stars Rogen as playboy-turned-masked superhero Britt Reid, who teams up with his recently-deceased father’s assistant, Kato (Jay Chou), in order to fight the city’s criminals with the help of their technology-enhanced car, dubbed the “Black Beauty.” The duo decide to pose as criminals in order to get closer to and ultimately take down the leader of L.A.’s criminal underworld, Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz).
The new featurette goes behind the scenes of the movie and features the likes of stars Rogen, Chou and Cameron Diaz letting us know why the titular Green Hornet is “A Different Kind of Supehero.” Watch the featurette below:
You can watch the Green Hornet featurette in HD over at Yahoo.
This featurette highlights one of the key things that sets The Green Hornet apart from the tons of other superhero movies out there: the titular hero isn’t the one doing most of the work. As Rogen says in the video, most of the time you have the hero doing all the heavy lifting, so to speak, and the sidekick is there to assist. But with The Green Hornet, Rogen is a complete newcomer to the technologically advanced world of gadgets that his sidekick, Kato, introduces him to; it’s Kato who ultimately does most of the ass-kicking. That scene we’ve seen in the trailers where Rogen knocks himself out using the gas gun is proof alone that he’s a bit out of his depth
.
As much as Rogen seems like an unlikely candidate to play a superhero, that might actually help us relate to and believe in him more than someone who looks fit and ready to don a hero’s costume. I wasn’t keen on Rogen playing the Hornet at first, but I have to admit, the notion has grown on me.
The film stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds). It’s written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad) and directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
The Green Hornet hits 2D and 3D theaters in the U.S. on January 14th, 2011.

I’m kind of liking this interp of the Green Hornet. In my sound engineering days I did a remake of one of the radio broadcasts (The Last of Oliver Perry) and really enjoyed the whole GH setup – the newspaper mogul, Black Beauty, and, oh, yeah, Kato! Dude totally rocks. ^_^ GH is not your typical superhero/crimefighter – why try to make him something he’s not? This interp is definitely different from the original but it appears original in its own right, which is refreshing. I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.
mac :]
Turns my stomach……can easily ruin Christmas for the entire free World.
so gonna see this
I’ve actually been hearing this isn’t as bad as everyone thought, believe it or not.

Here I go being pissy again. Sorry, but this is so SCREWED UP…
Creator George Trendle would NEVER have allowed this spoof (and make no mistake, this IS a spoof) to be made of his characters. This is Saturday Night Live material.
As a BIG Green Hornet fan all I can say is this is truly an abortion. A black day for GH fans.
I hope and pray this dies a quick death.
Good job! BRAVO!
Well, I guess you all know by now what a big steaming pile of dog s— this movie was.
