following The Following Renewed for Season 2

Check out: ‘The Following’ Season 2 Details Revealed

Serial killer dramas have become quite the reliable sub-genre for television in recent years. Shows like Dexter and NBC’s upcoming Hannibal explore the dark and dangerous minds of killers on a weekly basis, and in many cases, audiences are fascinated with the results.

So when FOX launched The Following in January, the network received tons of advance buzz regarding the series. After all, the show is headlined by Kevin Bacon and is created by writer Kevin Williamson of the Scream films and current TV hit The Vampire Diaries. On that name recognition alone, The Following had a lot to live up to.

Only six episodes have aired, but already the show has met FOX’s expectations and received renewal for season 2. Kevin Reilly, chairman of entertainment at FOX released the following statement regarding the show’s return next season:

“From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-
quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the
audience responding. Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the
most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I’m delighted to have
this thrill ride continue on FOX for another season.”

Given the overwhelmingly positive response The Following has received since its premiere (including our own review), the show’s renewal for season 2 isn’t much of a surprise. The series’ unique take on the genre – which involves an incarcerated killer (Purefoy) with legions of disciples on the outside – lends it a more original approach to the slasher-of-the-week format of other series, and allows for a developing conflict between the two leads.

In addition, The Following‘s ratings already place it among the highest rated dramas of the season. It remains to be seen whether or not the show can sustain that audience over several seasons, but thus far, it appears that FOX has a bonafide hit on its hands.

Are you excited that The Following is sticking around for season 2? Let us know in the comments.

The Following airs Monday nights at 9/8c on FOX.

  1. Holy ****, going to be a while before I come back down to earth after that ending #FinalChapter

    • I don’t think Joe Caroll is dead.

  2. Love, love, love this show!!! What an ending!!! Can’t wait for season 2!!!!!!

  3. Luv the following. I am hooked, but I keep telling myself – I can’t believe they didn’t see that coming.

    • Totally agree…frustrating!! Do you think they are both dead?

  4. I am so excited about another season. I have not missed a episode. I do have to say though without Joe, I don’t think it will be as exciting.

  5. Holy ****, going to be a while before I come back down to earth after that ending #FinalChapter Btw agent Parker dying, ripped my heart out

    • Totally agree…frustrating!! Do you think they are both dead?

  6. OMG ! Love this show, but predicted the end! Are they both dead or will they bring Claire and Ryan back for season 2.? ?? I wish they would not always leave them in situations where they are completely out numbered and make bad choices…

  7. Delighted to hear there will be a second season! Next best show to “24!”

  8. Great show-which is hard to find on tv in this day and age!love it-love the suspense-the actors-and joe gets my vote for the hottest serial killer around!!!!!!

  9. I really love the show, just watch the last episode and I hope that Clare and Ryan don’t die out…. I’m waiting on season 2 …

  10. Omg im happy about a second season but i dont no if i can keep watching if joe and clair die i hope they keep there carachters soo bad

  11. I absolutely love this show! I just got done watching the finale and I am anticipating season 2. I heven’t been this excited about a show since Dexter!

  12. LOVE IT! Kevin Bacon is GREAT! Love this Show! Hmmm, is Joe Really gone?

    • My guess is trap door in the burning building and some fancy Joe insider falsified dental stuff. Joe is not dead.

      • Agree 100%

  13. I really love the show, just watch the last episode and I hope that Clare and Ryan don’t die out…. I’m waiting for season 2 …

  14. The best drama / thriller on TV !!!! So happy it is renewed but will really miss
James Purefoy !!!! I do hope season two can find someone equally as good
    to star against Kevin Bacon.
The storyline was amazing and believable .

  15. I really dont’t like the emma character, she is getting on my skin. If next season is turning around emma, i am out.

But how long can they go without Joe, Parker ?

  16. I really enjoyed “The Following” and found it compelling and edgy. The “final Chapter” was a great way to end the season and left me searching the internet to inquire about a season 2. With that said, I would hope the writers will not try and “Michael Meyers” the Joe Carrol character by having him emerge alive and well from that horrific explosion. The Joe Carol experience was fantastic yet played out. I can see season 2 picking up where Ryan fights to save Claire from the cult straggelers and on to another case. Emma and other cult left overs occasionally causing him delays on the new hunt. All said it was a great season 1 and Im eagerly awaiting season. Providing Joe’s chapter is over and will not be dragged on for more than flash backs with ryan Hardy.

    • I totally agree with you.

  17. I really love the show, just watch the last episode and I hope that Clare and Ryan don’t die out. I’m waiting for season 2 …

  18. I really love the show, I’m waiting for season 2 …

  19. Love love love the show! Can’t wait for season 2….. never had my heart rate so out of control while watching TV!

  20. This is the best show ever. I am so excited that there will be another season. Cannot wait.

  21. Holy crap! They can’t both be dead can they and where’s Joey? Emma is still out there somewhere. I hated it ended that way but now I want to know what season 2 is going to bring. One thing’s for sure it will have to be very interesting to keep up with season 1. I love this show.

  22. The ending was horrible. I do believe Joe is still alive and I think the FBI guy on tonight show is part of the following.

    • OMG, I’ve thought that for so long!

  23. Couldn’t wait for last episode of the season but Joe needs to be in season two. Kevin Bacon is tops but we need Joe; a mistake must have been made in identifying his remains. Know you can work this out. We can’t lose him along with Parker. Check out some more of Edgar Allen Poe. Perhaps he can revive Joe.

  24. REALLY…What is the sense of watching a second season if the protaganist and the heroine of the story are dead? Great story line, but really not sure if the story line is sustainable. I mean really, how many times do watch the bad guys win and the good guys look dumb and outsmarted on EVERY episode…

  25. Love the show. hatred the ending but glad there’s a second season….i will be on the edge of my seat watching every episode!

  26. When will season 2 air?

  27. I love the show can’t wait to see what happens next season. The only bad thing is there is way to many commercials and they are way too long.
