‘The Fighter’ Gets a Tense TV Trailer & Poster [Updated]

2 years ago by Ross Miller

The Fighter movie 2010 The Fighter Gets a Tense TV Trailer & Poster [Updated]

[Update: We have a new poster for The Fighter.]

Last month we got a look at the first official trailer for David O. Russell’s upcoming boxing movie The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. Today we get another extended look at the movie via the new TV trailer, which aired during last night’s season 4 finale of Mad Men.

The Fighter stars Wahlberg as “Irish” Micky Ward, a boxer trying to be the best that he can be while struggling to support his family. Bale plays Ward’s half brother and boxing trainer, Dickie Eklund, a hindrance on Ward’s life because of his criminal past.

While the first trailer for The Fighter may have followed the conventions you expect from this type of film, this new TV trailer takes things in a far more interesting and effective direction with the way its put together. Take a look at the trailer for yourself (which first appeared on Deadline):

Wahlberg is a solid actor when he chooses roles that give him the opportunity to show off the acting talents we all know he has – The Departed, Boogie Nights and Three Kings all come to mind. Bale is a tremendous actor who devotes himself entirely to a role whenever that bit extra is needed; in much the same way he did with The Machinist and Rescue Dawn, Bale has shed pounds for his role in The Fighter, once again proving his dedication to his craft.

Wahlberg and Bale are two actors I’ve admired for a long time and I’ve been wondering why they’ve never worked together before. They certainly look like they’ll play off of each other well in The Fighter.

UPDATE: Check out this new poster for The Fighter which features Wahlberg and Bale standing together ringside, ready for the fight to come:

Boxing movies are always a great platform for inspirational stories of trying hard, sticking to what you believe in and ultimately achieving victory (in some manner). It’s become a clichéd tale but perhaps The Fighter can bring something fresh to this well-trodden story while still conveying the same sense of optimism and inspiration.

The Fighter hits theaters in the U.S. on December 10th, 2010.

Genius I love the way it conveys confusion and frustration before the clarity of the bell ringing. I suppose that’s how it must be in the head of a fighter with doubts.

Bale is one of those actors that does alot for a movie simply because he has chops.
