The Expendables New TV Spot For The Expendables

Lionsgate has released a new TV spot for their upcoming “mercenaries on a mission” action flick, The Expendables, which was co-written and directed by the film’s star, Sylvester Stallone.

Stallone plays Barney “The Schizo” Ross, the fearless head of an elite group of warriors-for-hire whose ranks include Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren).  Despite their silly names, these men are the best at what they do – namely, clobbering the bad guys and blowing stuff up.

The crew’s latest mission has them infiltrating a South American country as to overthrow its dictator, the brutal General Gaza (David Zayas).  However, all is not what The Expendables were led to believe and the team of tough guys find themselves doing battle against an evil ex-CIA operative (Eric Roberts) and his loyal muscle, the aptly-named Paine (Steve Austin).

If this plot synopsis and the most recent teaser trailer for The Expendables make the film seem a bit on the heavy side, the latest TV spot strikes more of the fun tone you’d expect from an explosion-filled summer movie.  The mix of Kiss’ “Rock & Roll All Nite” and shots of Hollywood’s bad boys doing what they do best definitely paints a more spirited picture of the movie.

The Expendables will be the third “team of soldiers on a mission” film to hit theaters this year, after the spring box office dud that was The Losers and this weekend’s The A-Team.  So far the promos for the Stallone-directed feature have been more serious in tone than those other two pics, but not so much that they make The Expendables look like a chore as opposed to the mindless bit of summer fun that everyone expects it to be.

What do you think?  Does The Expendables look like a good time?  Sound off in the comments section below.

The Expendables hits theaters in the U.S. on August 13th, 2010.

  1. Can’t help but think if only they had Van Dame and Seagal the circle would be complete.

    • van damme declined a role offered by stallone, claiming that he wanteda deep character or some BS lol

  2. No love for Sho Kasugi (sp?) from those 80′s ninja movies, Kurt Russel (with an eye patch), or Chow Yun Fat?

    • i was happy as hell to see Sho back on screen in Ninja Assassin. he would been a good counterpart to Li in this film too. as for Fat, yeah he really neeeds to climb back intothe action genre if you ask me, and none of the bulletproof monk crap, im talking stuff like the killer, hard boiled, city on fire, full contact….

    • Kurt Russell apparently declined, just like Van Damme. As i recall Russell made it clear that his action man days were over after he did Soldier in 1998.

  3. Those names are pretty cheesy (Yin Yang? Seriously?), but the movie looks like it’s going to kick ass!! I just wish Bruce Willis had more of an extended role. Adding Kurt Russell would be awesome as well. Maybe for Expendables 2? :P

  4. i just hope it gets an R, if not, i wont see it

  5. It’s looked good to me from the very start, and still looks good now.

  6. What about chuck norris? It looks dope 2 me,so i’ll definitely be in the theatre 2 see this flick…

  7. chuck norris was deemed to be too dangerous for this film, the baddies would never have even put up a good fight had he been in the film…

  8. wooo, just saw a new preview, its gonna be rated R after all:D im sooo pleased by this

  9. Badass, but what about Michael Dudikoff???? Van Damme should have accepted the offer, well unless he has better offers on the table.

  10. Will KISS be on the soundtrack for the film.

  11. I like the casting, I think this movie is really gonna be tight. I just want to show my expectation of the roles for this movie:

    Sylvester Stallone
    Jet Li
    Dolph Lundgren
    Jean Claude Van Damme
    Steven Seagal
    Wesley Snipes
    Mickey Rourke
    Bruce Willis
    and Arnold Schwarzenegger

    Thank you

    • looooooool omg its like uvve read my mind dawg ty so much somebody that has taste like i do i was just about post the same exact list of actors only i wud keep statham in there and have chuck norris in there too GREAT POST thank you

      • great choice of having wesley snipes there as the black guy he got more experience in the action field than terry crews not that i dont like terry crews but i see him more of a comedian than action star seen him in too many comedy movies cant really remember any other action movies he did

  12. Yea I know what your saying lol. I would put Jason Statham in the list of the new generation of the expendables because he’s still young and all but don’t get me wrong he is the man. I get what your saying about terry crews, he ain’t really the man of action cuz he has only been in comedies, he looks like the man with action but he hasn’t made his own movies yet before this movie came out. Overall the movie was tight.
