the expendables1 Second Expendables Trailer is a Tease

There’s a new teaser trailer out for the upcoming testosterone-fueled ensemble pic The Expendables, one that – shockingly – involves neither a single explosion, gun fight, or hulking action star laying the beatdown on their enemy.

In a departure from the first trailer and the recent TV spot, this new teaser for The Expendables is largely devoid of footage from the film and instead offers only a line of dialogue from each of the big name cast members.  Well, save for star/director Sylvester Stallone, who gets to recite a few lines of poetry about he and his fellow mercenaries.

Is it an effective teaser?  I think so, though I admit I’m not really sure why this trailer – which is a true teaser in every sense of the word – wasn’t the first one released for the film.  Even so, it works all the same.

You can check it out for yourself below:

Just in case you aren’t familiar with some of the surnames in this teaser, The Expendables will feature classic action stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren; athletic brutes Steve Austin and Terry Crews; tough guy Mickey Rourke and cameo appearances by Bruce Willis and the Governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So what do you think?  Do you like this new Expendables trailer?  Any thoughts on why this wasn’t the first teaser released for the film?  Sound off in the comments section below.

The Expendables will make its way into theaters in the U.S on August 13th, 2010.

  1. I thinking they’re hurting for a success here. With all of the “team up” movies that have come and gone, I suspect their marketing department’s a bit nervous. I would be. I’m a bit worn out with all of this “Let’s put a team together and kick some ass”. I’ll “s l o w l y” make it to this flick but not if there’s something better coming out within the same month.

C’mon HOLYYWOOD. I basically consider you unoriginal and fitted with blinders. There’s more talent on this board than you have in your offices.

  2. I still think that this movie looks like a lot of fun :)
I can’t wait to see this.

    @ Sandy
I agree this should have been the first trailer but that doesn’t change how I feel about seeing this movie (still really excited to see this one !!!!!!!).

  3. This looks like it might be the only time all these guys team up and Van Dammitt and Segal missed a golden opportunity to give something special to the fans! Forget Kurt Russelle.. damn man… alright..

    well I’ve vented enough….

  4. I agree that this really should have been the initial trailer. This trailer makes me WANT to see this movie, just because of all the names involved. I wonder why The Rock isn’t in this flick? He’s a better actor than Steve Austin (IMO).

    • the rock was busy getting his tutu fit and being “funny”

  5. I don’t understand why they add Crews, Couture, and Steve Austin as action legends. They’re just there to fill spots that Van Damme and Kurt Russell didn’t take. A real shame, really. But yeah, those three names bother me and lessen my excitement to watch this movie… I’m still extremely pumped but I could be pumpeder.

    • van damme went to the dark side when he did movies with dennis rodman….

  6. Stallone got too many blows to the head. So he probably thought it was a good idea to put the teaser after the full trailers.Crews and Couture arent really action legends, stone cold just start acting a couple years ago and that was in the longest yard. Wish Arnold did more than just a cameo like he would have sparred with Stallone. The rock and Wesley Snipes should replace Crews and Couture if there is a sequel!

  7. such BS, arnold isnt in the whole movie. by lying to the ‘fans’ they’re screwing themselves over, it would have been better to mention him after all the main characters.

im not going to watch this for the ‘story’ or for the team up of bad actors, im just watching it to see what stallone did with the 60 million budget (other then pay the large bulk of muscle)

    • From the very first news that Arnold would be in the movie they always said he would be doing a cameo and not the full movie. Why are you complaining?

      • lol, too funny, if arnold was in it for anything more than a cameo, i wouldnt see it. he went belly up when he started doing PG13 movies…

        • The reason I’m watching this is because Arnold is in it. I happen to like Arnold and most of his movies. All these actors contributed a lot to the action genre. In no way are they bad actors.

jwalka was bitching about them supposedly “lying” when everyone was already told of the cameo. That’s what I didn’t understand.

          • you do realize its a CAMEO role? he wont be in it for very long. i men if your whole point is seeing because of arnie, then really what is the point of you seeing it at all?

            • Really? Because i just got done saying above that he was doing a cameo…..read much?

The other point of seeing this awesome movie is for the rest of the awesome cast. And if anyone dislikes this cast, the senseless acts of testosterone driven violence and a return to how great action films used to be, then I seriously question their manhood.

              • dude, lol you said “the reason im watching this is because arnold is in it.” now it looks like youre retracting that above statemment by now saying “the otherpoint of seeing this awesome movie is for the rest of the cast” one might take that as saying “if arnold wasnt in this it wouldnt do well at the box office”

          • you do realize its a CAMEO role? he wont be in it for very long. i men if your whole point is seeing because of arnie, then really what is the point of you seeing it at all?

  8. where is chuck norris when you need him ? Chuck vs Li and Stallone, and Lundgren, and …..

    • chuck is too powerful of a being to be in such a movie sir…..

  9. this movie is going to kick buns.

  10. This movie seems somewhat interesting, but I would’ve put in Timmy Lister and taken out one of the smaller bald guys.
