The first trailer for The Expendables made its way online the other week although it was unofficial, unfinished and quickly removed everywhere at the request of Lionsgate.
The movie brings together a plethora of action stars, most notably, those who kicked ass during the 80s. It was shaping up to be a perfect reunion of the stars we loved from back in the day. When we got to see the unofficial trailer, the quality of what we saw sure made it feel like an 80s action flick, which to me was good and bad.
From the footage, we never got to see two big names who we know are involved with the movie: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. Thanks to an Entertainment Weekly exclusive chat with Stallone, we now have some details on what Willis and the Governator will be playing.
EW spoke with Stallone (who’s also directing the film) over the phone after he shot the scenes with Willis and Schwarzenegger.
“I was just looking at the dailies, saying, ‘Jesus, this is amazing!’ I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition.”
The scene that the two stars make a cameo in takes place in a church where Willis has called upon Stallone’s character to finally meet him in person, and see if he’s fit to possibly hire for a near-suicidal mission. After some smartass witty dialogue, in comes Stallone’s rival mercenary who Willis’ character has also called upon for the gig. Yes, that’s Arnold, and they’re competing for the same job.
“Bruce says ‘Well, there’s one other person I want to talk to before I hire you… And then Arnold, who plays my old rival, walks in. We have a history together. And we go back and forth and I tell him that I should have shot him a long time ago when I had the chance. Then it goes on from there. And here we are, the three of us trying to man up to one another, playing off of who we are, using our baggage in this one scene.”
So, that’s the lowdown on the powerhouse scene Stallone has tried so hard to put together – I’m glad it happened and I’m excited to see the end result on the big screen.
Participating in Sylvester Stallone’s dream project are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Danny Trejo and Mickey Rourke. And as we know more info on now, there’s also some cool cameos from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis.
Are you pumped to see this cast together on screen?
The Expendables opens in theaters August 20, 2010.

Around the web:

The cast is pretty awesome but PG-13? No thanks.
Glad that scene is in the can.
If they are really smart , they wont use it in the ads .
At least not for the first couple of weeks .
Where was the promo trailer taken down ??? It can be found all over the net and especially on youtube.
PG-13 or R-rated, Sounds like a interesting movie to go see. Most likely this will be the only film i get to see all 3 of my favorite action stars converse to each other in the same scene. Im there,lol.
I remember the last time these guys had the same scene together was when they launched the “Planet Hollywood”. Restaurant franchise. Lol
Vic, what’s with this black background I’m loving it! Is that just a bb glitch?
@790
Not sure what you’re talking about – nothing has changed in the design of the site.
Vic
Interesting?
I just did a system reboot and that didn’t send the background back to white. I could clear my cache memory but I like this better,!!!
Damn I miss Arnold’s films. I hope he comes back for one last ride.
Here’s hoping they do a Taken and at least manage to release the R version internationally.
I am with you 790 PG 13 just makes me sick with a movie like this and a cast to go with it. There are supposed to be boobs and bombs everywhere.
Sounds great, I hope Arnold will get a cameo in Predators, and then he can be in a decent terminator flick after that.
PG13..
that just not right..
@ Jason,
Lionsgate requested for us to take it down – Wee wont be putting up that unfinished one until we get something official or permission to do so.
i just imagine how the scene look in my head! Bruce willis will standing in the middle,Stallone on his left and Arnold on his right. 3 action stars standing together in one screen..that sound awesome!
Just one thing…WHY OH WHY ISN’T CHUCK NORRIS IN THIS MOVIE!?!? haha but no seriously. why.
Come on, stop whining on PG-13, it hasn’t even been determined whether it will be released as PG-13 or R-Rated. Until it’s confirmed it’s PG-13, you can be quiet.
@ Patrick
Because Chuck Norris is a real badass and he would do too much damage to the actors portraying his actual way of life.
@Vic
How do I go about being a guest reviewer because I really want to review this movie
@ Patrick Fletchall,
I know what you mean, bro. From the beginning I said Chuck needs to be in this
@ Vin,
We only put up one review for each movie, so I think Vic/Kofi or one of our guys would probably be reviewing that since it’s a big summer release.
I beleive Chuck Norris deserved to be in this. Didn’t he start action movies before Sly, Arnie and Bruce?
@Vin
You can send Vic an e-mail and he would determine whether it would be worthy to start a thread. But like Rob said, they have reviewers already, and they are really good. Your review would have to be stellar to outshine those guys.
@stpau1y
None of these guys have ever been in action movies that were full of boobs… Also, all of them have been in a lot of
pg-13 action flicks. They all started with the R stuff and worked their way towards pg-13. The 6th Day, Rocky, Die Hard 4, etc. It can be a good movie and still be pg-13. I’m excited to see it and hope that they don’t let bombs and boobs take over what could be a very cool movie. Actually I’m fine with bombs but they don’t usually make a movie r it’s more F-Bombs that do that, and these guys have been fairly good at keeping the lanuage to a min (lately at least)
Nope didnt like the 1st trailer of it.C’mon with all the powerhouse cast it has and it looks like a home made movie to me!I’ll watch it on DVD but not in theatres..I hope that was a spoof of some sort cause it sucked really bad!Remember its not the quantity of whos who are in it but its the quality im looking for..Nuff said..
C’mon, stallone can do better than that..He is a good director from what I’ve noticed on the last “Rambo” and I know he can write also..
Jack Bauer raped Chuck Norris till he liked it!
@Vin
I’ve only ever done one guest review here – I barely let any of the regular writers even write reviews.
I like to do most of them myself, and this will be one of them.
Vic
Ah we can keep the boobs for the unrated DVD. PG-13 theater release to get the box office numbers first and fore-most. I’m fine with that.
I’m thinking more along the PG-13 lines of say Wolverine. Action but no real blood or gore.
When blood/gore is used right (Rambo2008) it can enhance the story. When its removed it can turn the film into a cartoonish experience.
Is it known yet what this movie is about?
@ 790:
At least for me, the Screenrant background has always been black. Maybe your computer shows it differently for some reason.
