[Debunked: Turns out the Sly Stallone page was an impostor who was just relaying items he "read"]

From the moment The Expendables became a reality, fans immediately clamored for another Stallone-led team-up chock full of even more stars from ’80s and ’90s action films. While promoting the original, Stallone never shied away from namedropping the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal as just a few of the actors he had approached. For one reason or another, they all said no, but the success of the old-school action affair made many of these names think twice when it came to a second chance to appear in the sequel where the process for casting a followup began again.

Seagal was offered a part in The Expendables 3 before The Expendables 2 even hit theaters, and producer Avi Lerner revealed that Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood had been approached about making an appearance as well. All the while, fans put together wishlists of who could appear in a followup, but we can now definitively confirm at least one new member of The Expendables 3 cast.

Posting on his Facebook page today, Sylvester Stallone provided an update on the status of The Expendables franchise. In usual fashion, he namedropped some of the stars he wants for the sequel:

We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing ‘The Expendables’. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.

Sly Stallone

Some of the sentences might be a bit amiss, but the general message gets through: We’re getting more of the same action and style with The Expendables 3 and if Sly gets his way, more star power to go along with it. Expect at least returning guest appearances from the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in addition to the returning core members of Barney Ross’ (Stallone) team of mercenaries with hearts.

Although we do not know what role Cage will play in The Expendables 3, he’s an obvious fitting choice to play an eccentric villain of sorts, while the likes of Harrison Ford/Clint Eastwood could step in with a veteran heroic appearance not unlike Chuck Norris’ role in The Expendables 2. Either way, fans who enjoyed what the first two films had to offer should be excited that Stallone aims to bolster the cast profile even more.

As for the story of the threequel, it’s clearly still up in the air but it’s possible Stallone uses the bankability of the stars in conjunction with the ‘Expendables’ brand name to do something he’s wanted to do with the Rambo franchise for a few years, taking the series sci-fi, potentially even taking advantage of The Savage Hunt story based on James Byron Huggins’ Hunter - for which Stallone owns the rights to. 1. i wish they could get Jackie Chan in E3. even if its just a cameo. I would be happy with that.

    • I want to see Michael Dudikoff and Michael Pare in the third part

  2. I want to see Jackie Chan too. Maybe have a showdown between him and Jet Li.

    • Watch Forbidden Kingdom for that showdown.

      • but a better one :D

  3. ah, some JC fans here :)

I would like to see Donnie Yen as well, or some of the HK martial artists from the early 90s

  4. Not really exciting news. This makes me wonder if Daniel Craig is going to be added to the roster soon. But I don’t think he’ll do it

  5. Since Steve Austin played a villain in the first one, I’d like to see Tony Jaa in the third in some way.

    • That I’d be game for.

  6. the setting should be in asian and should have asian martial arts/action stars as the bad guys, plus that way jet li might decide to come on board since they’ll be shooting in his backyard (metaphorically speaking of course).

    • Like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Biao? that would be cool to see

  7. Isn’t it also a rumor that JCVD will return as Claude Vilain, the twin brother of Jean Vilain? Per the Expendables 2 wiki page: “On August 13, 2012, Van Damme indicated that Stallone might include him in The Expendables 3, in which Van Damme would play Claude Vilain, the brother to his character Jean Vilain.”

    • Lol, I’ve not heard that.

  8. Im done with these movies lol.

  9. Who the hell wrote that Facebook post!?!??! This is the same guy that wrote numerous screenplays, like Rocky? Wow! Anyway, I’m looking forward to part three, and hope they keep making them. Segal would be cool to see. I wouldn’t mind seeing Carl Weathers in it, if he’s in good shape.

  10. Cage is a great actor when he wants to be. He is a good addition to the cast.

  11. I wonder if Nicolas Cages hair will be cast as well? I’ve heard it can be quite demanding and requires its own trailer filled with yellow Skittles and every Hustler magazine from 1987!

If Stallone can get Cages hair on board then we are in for something really special

    • bahaha made my day

      • He’d certainly look a lot better with a shaved head. Go the way of Bruce and Vin, Nic!

  12. i love Wesley, Blade franshise id one of my favorite. I would love to see a Snipes comback

  13. really hope they get jean reno!

… also would love it if they could get gary oldman or alan rickman to play villains. that would be epic!

    • Ooooo. I like your thinking! :)

  14. great purchase in nic cage he’s a timeless actor bar none, but even better as a villain, and snipes and donnie yen would be great additions

  15. nic cage im thinkin is gonna be a villain

  16. Kurt Russell would be entertaining… Get him and Statham bouncing insults back and fourth, also he worked with Sly in Tango and Cash. Michael Douglas might be a pretty good fit as well, and oh yeah Tom Berenger, the Sniper himself.

  17. I wouldn’t want Harrison in the movie, Indiana jones is a completely different action hero than Rambo or the terminator so is jack Ryan and blade runner he just doesn’t fit to me. Not the biggest cage fan, I guess I’m just not expecting a lot out of this one

  18. Heres a name I haven’t seen anyone mention yet.

How about getting Sean Connery. :)

    • Nice sentiment but last word is he’s retired.

  19. Nic Cage? That seems like a really odd choice, but why not?

    • As for the Savage Hunt storyline, I think that is an awesome idea, though I would love to see them go toe to toe with another group of mersanary BAs. Perhaps have a young vs old type thing and have popular younger action stars for the other group of mercenaries.

  20. SNIIIIIIIIPES!!!! YESSSSS!!!!!

  21. I think the Rock, Segal, Snipes & Cage would FUN to watch! What about Tom Cruise?

    • Yeah, the rock is needed!

  22. There is ONLY one late 80s/early 90s American action star that is glaringly missing from the Expendables franchise: Steven Seagal. I know that he has gained a lot of weight over the years and has a problem with Lerner. But, Seagal needs to be in expendables 3.

  23. The Expendables franchise. In usual fashion, he namedropped some of the stars he wants for the sequel:

  24. Not N.C
SMH!! if they get Wesley Snipes and Jackie on board then ill just pretend Cage isnt in the movie ;)

  25. Expendables + Savage Hunt + Ford/Eastwood (cameo at least)…AND A FEMALE “junior” member (who came over from the dark side of Cage’s villainy) with one GREAT surprise appearance (Connery…Sean Connery) The Expendables 3 would be exploitable enough in the U.S. market. But that ultimately relies upon set pieces, action sequences and one hell of a
    3d act.

  26. lol is this a joke or not i still dont want steven seagal for expendables 3 after all why could they bring back mickey rourke and jean claude vandamme

  27. Seagal would be awesome! I think Wesley Snipes and Duane Johnson would also be a good addition to E3

  28. would be awesome if they can get Ostin Powers

  29. We need a sex scene in expendables 3 especially by jet li
