Spidey rules! I'd hell of rather see a movie with him than a movie with Super Man. Spidey's tied with Iron Man for my favorite super hero.

Transformers' hurry-blurry rendering left me thinking, "That's two and a half hours of my life that I can never get back."

CGI has become a crutch, and crass & camp are a lowest common denominator to attract the repeat-ticket junior high crowd.

Graham, I was impressed (and shaken) with the limited robotics of The Borg in "Q Who?" 20 years ago. But then, I cared about those characters.

None of the superhero movies have been bad lately, hyped up,too long, too many characters mabey, but not bad!
I still thought X-men 3 was very very good.
FF2 tried hard but was a bit too camp, still enjoyed it though.
Transformers was a great way to show how you can make a great movie out of a silly subject, that's how to make superhero movies.

LOL, 790! Glad that I'm not completely alone in my view! :-) Good to see ya, bud.

I don't see why the kid issue needs to be addressed at all. The best way to address it would be would to ignore that whole subplot completely and move on, it would be like saying "sorry, what were we thinking?" to the audience that actually came back for the "sequel".

And as mentioned, the kid (wonderful actor), will be MUCH older by the time MOS comes out, and we don't even know if Bosworth will return as Lois, so they may as well ignore the afformentioned incident if they're going to have to recast anyway.

I say they should just do like Superman 3 did, bad as it was as a movie, it didn't mention ANY of the events from Superman 2. It just went right into a new story, didn't address the whole Lois/Superman affair or whether Lois remembered that Clark was Superman or not, and it didn't have to. Same should be done with MOS, IMO.

Here's why the bastard kid subplot is a dumb idea:

First of all, according to the comics, Superman, being kryptonian, is unable to reproduce with an earth person. They're two different species. It would be like a horse and a donkey doing it.

Secondly, according to the Richard Lester cut of Superman 2, on which Superman Returns is "loosely based", Superman was DEPOWERED, he was turned into an ordinary man, when he and Lois had their affair, therefore Jason should/would not have ANY superpowers.

Thirdly, the whole idea of Superman having an affair with Lois and then making her forget it ever happened is RIDICULOUS and COMPLETELY OUT OF CHARACTER. What, he has sex with her, makes her forget about it, leaves, comes back, finds out she had a kid that throws pianos and then doesn't say anything about it?? WTF? How could he even approach her about that anyway? She'd be like "when did you and I...?" and how bad would Superman look? It's almost like rape if you think about it. Can you see this winning a pulitzer prize: "Superman scews people and then brain washes them, it could happen to YOU by Lois Lane"? The whole idea is ridiculous, and whoever concieved it needs to be FIRED or have their head examined.

That's why the best thing to do short of a reboot would be to just MOVE ON and ignore that BS. I honestly feel sorry for Routh, I think he deserves a second chance, it wasn't his fault the script had that crap in it. He was the best thing about SR, IMHO. If they ignore those events and move on with more action and Routh then they'll have one helluva movie.

Andy,
That Spidey-Superman was an oversize publication (maybe 14" x 10"?), I think they called them Treasury Editions. They had Marvel-DC battles (which always ended in team-ups, if memory serves). I think there was Superman vs. Hulk, can't remember the others.

That's why I don't like ____ vs. Superman. He's too powerful for any foe. Well, Smallville depicts a Bizarro worthy enough for full out challenge. How exciting is a story going to be, when the hero can fly around the world and turn back time, in the biggest stinkiest Reset Button ever?

Regarding the Fantastic Four, since they got their train wreck out of the way in the first movie, maybe a third will not be so bad.

790, I am not sure what spoiler you referred to. Just curious.

They're going to have to address the kid. No way around it. Regardless of how it's resolved, the child-actor from SUPERMAN RETURNS will probably get re-cast if I was betting man.

TMOS will take place within a short time-table after RETURNS (i.e. weeks or months later). More likely than none, the kid will be just too big to effectively play a 5-year old.

I think they put Superboy in the last film to start a new character that would interact with Superman in the future. (Old formula) echem'' Indiana Jones eceehm '' not that it won't work,, eecchum. Yeah right ecchemm. ''

That sounds like something the Studio hacks would insist on.

KEL makes more sense on this issue than a room full of (high paid) Studio execs.
And there in lies the problem. The Studios allways mess up films like these...
If they had more talented people with Passion for these characters like KEL we would be talking about how kick ass the last film was and how can they possibly top the next.
Instead were musing over our favorite superhero films and how bad they suck compaired to the next guy...
How wonderfull.

On that Comicbook at the top: Superman vs Spider-man was that another way to get Lex in the story or were they out of ideas that week?
Neat cover no substance.

Same thing with the stupid Superman vs Batman series or my favorite (for being lameass) RoboCop vs Terminator.
No I'm not making that up...

I'm for everything KEL said!!!!!

I think they put Superboy in the last film to start a new character that would interact with Superman in the future. (Old formula) echem” Indiana Jones eceehm ” not that it won’t work,, eecchum. Yeah right ecchemm. ”

That sounds like something the Studio hacks would insist on.

KEL makes more sense on this issue than a room full of (high paid) Studio execs.
And there in lies the problem. The Studios allways mess up films like these…
If they had more talented people with Passion for these characters like KEL we would be talking about how kick ass the last film was and how can they possibly top the next.
Instead were musing over our favorite superhero films and how bad they suck compaired to the next guy…

No I’m not making that up…

I’m for everything KEL said!!!!!

That's so funny. Superheroes can't be omnipotent. And speaking of potent LOL Kel:

BTW, I have that comic. And Superman was weakened severely right before the fight by a K ray. We all know Spidey doesn't stand a chance against Superman in a fight anyway so it was only fair......

Guys, I don't have anything against the young actor or bastard children in general, I just think that the idea of giving Superman a bastard kid SUCKS. What were they thinking anyway??? Did Jon Peters come up with that?? It is just such of a HORRIBLE idea.

Also, no more floating head of Marlon Brando as Jor El. He's dead guys, lets move on. Using a dead actor for a character only limits the story telling.

And Jamie, I don't think they should do a total reboot, I think they should just ignore the bastard kid subplot as tho it never happened.

One thing I can assure you of; THE MAN OF STEEL will NOT be a re-boot like some have suggested. My understanding is that Singer & Co. plan to jump right into the plot/action like they did for X2: X-MEN UNITED (i.e. no recaps!)

Now...did WB consider re-booting the SUPERMAN franchise? Yes, but those plans went out the window when they (along with Legendary Pictures) inked a new deal with Singer to produce/direct TMOS.
