This could be Ghost in The Shell / Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
If the end result does involve space ships, samurai clans somehow combining in a respective manner it will be an ORIGINAL type of film (perhaps only targeting a niche market – but thats how you get cult following right) there are very few “original” films released these days.
Does it deserve funding – ABSOLUTELY.
I can imagine it possibly becoming one of the cult-classic films for the last 10 years easy!

Wow, I for one would definitely see this one!
But it could go both ways. Eiter it will be epic or simply awful.
But from the trailer, I think it looks cool!

wow man that looks awsome hell yea. i just thought recently how cool a frank miller samurai movie would be like 300 with ninjas instead of spartans truly awsome.

The tech work makes it easy to compare to 300, Sin and others ( I mean it is the 21st Century)…..but this looks different and promising to me. Plus the director is Irish!

Sure, give it funding. IMO, it looks much more interesting than 3/4 of the movies that come out every year. Neil BlomKamp, along with Jackson, showed what can be done with low-budget movies.

This has a unique premise and shows potential, which is more than I can say about most movies nowadays.

I agree with you SIN187UM but all that shadowing was done to save money as much as artistic feel IMO. It’s a practical consideration because of the films purpose, finding a backer.

Well Firstly samurai’s didnt do kung fu. WIRE PLAY IS LAME AND OUT LIVED ITS USEFULNESS now. The film reminds me of an Anime called Black Lion. And at least it looks better than Ninja Assassin IMO.

Eh, too much like a Sin City/300 rip off, and with characters I don’t care about, so looks like a rental at best for me at least. I can see this being pretty popular maybe.

As a personal project? Outstanding!!! As a potential movie? Boy,there is so much that could happen between this and the possible end result, who knows? It seems to be trying to be different in some respects, so I guess we should applaud that, at least.

It seems a tiny bit too 300/The Spirit/Sin City for my taste. It LOOKS cool, but in the end I suspect it will be vapid and lifeless.

This is a refreshing slant on the world of Samurai. The CGI works with the look of the film and the theme. It has a bit of Frank Millar but different. I am sick and tired of wire play sword fights. They have become a film techique that has been overused and has lost it’s “magic” to what it expresses. Good CGI technique (as in this short film) can easily replace wire play or at least enhance it more so it looks more real and not like a Peter Pan stage play. This film should get funding, if for anything else, for being looking original. I say give me more. This film could be epic.

Well, since Avatar has been getting so much cynicism due to it having a lot of CGI, I would expect that of this too, unless “Samurai” has as much “cool factor” as “ninja” or vampires or something…

Too bad I can’t get the video to play here at work, will see it when I get home I guess…

Half of me is thinking it looks like they’re trying to do anime but live action if that makes sense.
The other half is having weird flashbacks to The Spirit and Sin City…..

I think it looks pretty cool.

With a bigger budget they can clean up the graphics – I dig the background music in a lot of those scenes too.
