Bradley Cooper Drops Out of ‘The Crow’ Remake; Mark Wahlberg Rumors Resurface

Bradley Cooper Drops Out of The Crow

It’s been a strange road for The Crow remake. We’ve been covering the film since 2008, and during that time it’s gone through multiple directors, writers, and lead actors. Now, it appears that The Crow is going through yet another change.

Most recently, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Hangover star Bradley Cooper were linked to the project. Fresnadillo is still directing the film, but it looks like he’s going to need another star.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper has left the project due to scheduling conflicts with Alex Proyas’ Paradise Lost. (Such is the life of a hot Hollywood A-lister.) Cooper’s departure opens up the role for another actor, and, interestingly, one of the names being discussed is a blast from the past.

In addition to the news that Cooper is leaving the film, THR reports that Channing Tatum and Mark Wahlberg are being considered as possible replacements. Fans might recall that Wahlberg was offered the lead role for the film last year, but he announced that he would not be playing the part a couple of months later.

One of the reasons Wahlberg said he dropped out of The Crow was because his preferred director (Stephen Norrington) was no longer attached to the film. Considering that Norrington still isn’t on board, it seems unlikely that Wahlberg would return to the project, but stranger things have happened.

The rumor that Channing Tatum may be involved the project makes more sense, and could actually be a good turn for the actor. With lead roles in films like G.I. Joe, Tatum has become a legitimate movie star and is one of the few actors in Hollywood that could get audiences excited about yet another Hollywood remake. Whether you like him or not, he definitely fits the part and makes sense from the studio’s perspective.

What do you think? Is Cooper’s departure disappointing? Could Channing Tatum succeed in a gritty  reboot of The Crow, or will nobody be able to fill Brandon Lee’s shoes as the vengeful rocker Eric Draven?

  1. I think Ryan Gosling would be perfect for the role of the Crow. He is fit. He used to play teenage Hercules so he knows a bit about action. He can act angsty from the romance movies he’s been in. And if you google image search: Ryan Gosling Rain, you’d get a bunch of pictures that pretty much show him as the crow. here are some links:

  2. Crow:City of Angels was absolute CRAP! to this day I REFUSE to watch that movie ever again, I’ll watch Crow:Salvation and Crow:Wicked Prayer before I watch City of Angels. AS for the Original Crow, LEAVE IT ALONE!.

  3. Could there ideas get any worse. Apparently Bradley Cooper was just the tip of the iceberg. What are they thinking remaking such a huge cult classic. I’ll tell u what…money. It’s sad. If they insist on remakeing this movie at least go with an unknown actor. I just can not see a big name star in that roll. Brandon lee made that character his own. His Draven is burned into my brain, any actor is going to have a hard time making any impact besides a bad one. I kind of feel like we are waiting for a crash and burn

    • I agree entirely. No person will ever replace Brandon Lee’s Draven.

    • You couldn’t be more wrong about a remake. I was watching the movie TODAY and was thinking it should be re-done without ever knowing someone was already pushing the project. Lee did a good job but the movie itself veered away from the fantastic story delivered by O’Barr. And what you say about The Crow is the same thing they said about the joker, and then Heath Ledger knocked it out of the park. It’s not about a big or little name, it’s about a build and talent that can capture the complexities of that character.

      • Do you think heath ledger could be topped?

  4. I think Jared Leto should play this part, he has the passion and stamina for such a part as this….i think he would do the late Brandon Lee proud :)

    • Oh My Gosh!!! I absolutely agree that Jared Leto would be AWESOME for this part!

  5. Seriously? Do you enjoy killing classic’s Hollywood? Tatum is far to muscular for the role, Wahlberg isn’t any better. Brandon Lee is the only actor-Which is saddening that he is dead- That should ever be known as the actor of The Crow. As the say, the orignals are always best.

    • i hope hollywood dont kill the crow,i hate hollywood

  6. no one can replace brandon lee hollywood!stop making crappy movies of the crow, and start making better ones with real actors, not bad actors!!!!!!!

  7. Maybe IF (and that’s a huge IF) everyone linked to this Picked up a comic and thought hey here is our storybord. Then sat down and talked to J.O.Barr and with him about the story. OH we did that at some point and time when was that oh ya when the first Crow was made. And then picked a somewhat actor who at the time was almost unknow. made him sit down with Barr and talk to him. Now i do think the Rain guy would be good at this part. But this being Hollywood. Lets think like them
    Jim Carry as Eric
    Roger Moore as Top Dollar
Justin Biber? as Myca (some of you will get it)
    Wesley Snipes as Sergeant Albrecht
CGI Eagle but black and voiced by Morgan Freeman
everything else cgi oh and in 3d to add 10 bucks to the ticket price and Eric is no longer a rocker. lets make him and outed gay spec ops who lost the love of his life….his PET GROOMER!!! Rated PG
Wow i think my Joke of a movie will be better than what will be made by Goofie Wood.
I for one refuse to buy in to the whole remake/reboot idea of movies. And will never go and pay to go see one of them. If you ok one then it’s ok for them all. From the X-Men to the Robots called Transformers. Its not going to stop anytime soon. A cop friend was telling me about a person who was raided had “Super hero porn on his laptop” And the other day i read they are rebooting Batman agin after the next movie. It’s all just sad and we can only say Sorry Mr. Lee welcome to the joke!

    • Xmen origins “wolverine” is by far the best xmen movie yet! Just sayin.. But I do not think they should try to remake the crow… Maybe the original exorcist just for newer effects and rob zombie should do that… Lol

  8. I hate Hollywood. Their goes another legend, Brandon lee, and his legacy being remade. Long live the crow..until Hollywood screws it up.

  9. I think a remake of the film is rediculous!!! The only reason people even appreciated the original was because of Brandon Lee, and the fact that he lost his life making that film!

  10. I think Jason Momoa would be a great choice to play Eric Draven. He was great playing Conan The Barbarian and while watching it, thought to myself “wow, he’d make a great Crow!” Even before I heard news of a remake. He kind of resembles Brandon Lee, and has great sinister like facial expressions…what do you think?…BTW…I have “it can’t rain all the time…” Tattooed on my forearm…so you know I know what I’m talking about….LOL

  11. The Crow is one of my favorite movies. I have some hope though because not ALL remakes and reboots are bad… but the way things are moving so far with the movie are pretty bad. I’d be extremely excited though if someone like Tim Burton would direct this movie with a talented actor who’s face is right for the hair and makeup. Mark just doesn’t have that and neither does Channing. Brad might have it but ehh.. I hope they get a good cast at least so this movie isn’t another Hollywood flop.

  12. I’m a huge fan of the original and if they have to remake it I think Wahlberg would be good but after seeing Drive I think Ryan Gosling could be a serious possibility. I would just hate to be surrounded by all the preppy people going to see it cause a huge star is in it. I see nothing good coming out of this remake at all though.

  13. I’m curious with how this re-make will turn out, but, if they use channing tatum; that would be a horrible mistake. His inablility to move away from his thug dialect along with his inability to act so I can take him seriously, especially for this role, would just kill this movie. I agree whoever takes on this role has HUGE shoes to fill after what Brandon Lee did for it, but, hollywood needs to dig alot more deeper than tatum; especially when there’s people with much more talent than that waste of money.

  14. I think the Impact Tna star sting will be cool to play it. Back in WCW he did the make up in honnor of the crow and Brandon Lee.

  15. No one will be able to play this part the way Brandon did,he was amazing!!I still watch the movie today, part two wasn’t bad. While I don’t mind reboots they must pick a slender cut up actor, i like Wahlberg but he is a little to big. Jared Leto would be perfect for it,he’s got the face and the frame to be a good Crow. Still the original movie the best ever!

  16. No way on changing Tatum. Dont understand why they made any of the sequels or the TV show. None of the others had the same emotion or intensity as the original. Not to mention all the acting was completely horrible. Just shows that people involved in this project aren’t serious by having bradley cooper and channing as leading roles. Cooper is a good actor but not a good fit for this role. Tatum is garbage and has a range of emotion on screen as much as an 80 yr pumped full of botox.

  17. I think Taylor kitsch would be a good Eric draven. He is the long haired friend from the movie the covenant. He already has the long dark hair, his facial structure looks the part for the make up and he is thin, lean and cut like brandon lee was for the movie. I believe he is a great actor and would be a great fit for role

    • Definitely. Just saw him in John Carter. He has the look. Gorgeous.

  18. I’m not sure which is the worst choice between Wahlberg and Tatum. I’m relieved that Cooper dropped out but again irritated with the possible replacements. These guys are all so incredibly wrong for the role that it’s an insult to the comic, the character, and to Brandon Lee to even connect their names to this. The Crow has to be graceful and beautiful in a dark angel kind of way. None of these guys are good actors and none of them possess the subtle grace that should be part of the character. I think a great choice would be Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki.

  19. I think my top picks for a crow reboot would have to be someone up and coming! I wouldnt watch a reboot if it had Channin Tatum! I think the top candidates would be: Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Ryan Goslin (The Notebook), Jared Leto (30 Seconds to Mars), Gaspard Ulliel, Alexander Skarsgård (true Blood)!

    • My thoughts exactly on ur pics. my first choice would be taylor kitsch cause he already has that look and attitude. his voice fits n he can play dark n mysterious as well. same goes for jared leto. He’s been one of my favorite musicians and actors since his first 30 seconds to mars Cd came out and his contribution to fight club.

  20. If they are gonna remake The Crow, remake one of the sequels. LEAVE THE ORIGINAL ALONE!!!! Nobody can touch Brandon Lee. If they remake the original it will be an absolute disgrace to him simply because NOBODY will be able to play Eric Draven like he did.

  21. I reckon someone who knows martial arts should play him.maybe mark decacus shud play him since he played him in the series.

  22. Man, at least choose Johnny Depp for the main role!!! But the best decision:
LEAVE THE ORIGINAL ALONE, show some respect to Brandon and to all of the fans!

  23. If you dont cast James Franco for this role your a complete dumbass. Tatum, are you serious? This guy is a complete tool. Lee was a nobody which was what made the original so great.

  24. Why cant they just leave this one alone…not just because it doesnt need a re-make but because of respect for Brandon Lee. Anyone wondering why it hasnt even been started yet and everyone keeps dropping it? Maybe because its not suppost to be redone!

  25. Another Crow movie is defently over due but rebooting it could also have harsh reprocusions to from the fandom. But on the other hand there is a newer generation out there that is still young so if potrayed right the movie could add on to the long line of fans who all love the Orignal Movie with Brandon Lee as ‘ Eric ‘ in the first movie. How ever though it seems there is still alot of redtape to cut through before this prodject can even get underway ; alot of people want in on the possible money it could bring in. I also think it would be in good taste if they dedicated the movie in the memory of Brandon Lee and released it on the anniversery of the first movie’s release.

  28. After reading this, I can’t even imagine what kind of direction they want to go with remaking this movie. With Wahlberg and Tatum as considered replacements… what are we going for here? A “wigger” version of the character? I do think Jared Leto could pull of the character. He has that cool dark look. Hollywood needs to pay attention to the source material of the projects they’re working on. The original Illustrated Crow was based on Iggy Pop, Peter Murphy, and David Bowie. Lanky, Gothic/Punk rock stars.

  29. They should all drop out and leave The Crow alone. Go find something that sucks and remake that instead.
