The 13-episode series is currently in production, with an eye towards premiering sometime in July. While the story might be new to American audiences, the series itself is based on a Scandinavian crime drama television series called Bron that took place at the Denmark-Sweden border, and kicks off when a body is dumped on the bridge. However, the location has been changed for the American adaptation.
The Bridge takes place at the border between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico, where there's already plenty of tension due to illegal immigration. After a body is dumped off a bridge at the border, Detective Ruiz (Demian Bichir) and his American counterpart, Detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger of Inglourious Basterds) try to solve this grizzly case that turns into a hunt for a serial killer, doing his deeds in both Mexico and the United States.

Four teaser trailers have been released - titled Ember, Escape, Red and Crossroads - but they don't really give much away just yet. This may be because production is still underway on the series, but the tone and mystery from these teasers is certainly intriguing, and just might be enough to get audiences interested.
The first episode of the series is directed by Gerardo Naranjo, the Mexican filmmaker behind the acclaimed drug-trafficking drama Miss Bala, so this should be a very gritty crime-thriller, and it just might give The Killing - another series adapted from Danish television - a run for its money. Though you might be be able to spoil yourself by reading through the plot synopses of the first season in Sweden, the location change likely won't be the only difference between the original series and this U.S. adaptation.
And if you crime drama fans are still not convinced, the series also has Homeland writer and executive producer Meredith Stiehm and Hawaii Five-0 producer Elwood Reid working behind the scenes.
Here are the rest of the short but haunting teasers:
