The Avengers Loki and Mystery Villain Kevin Feige Hints at The Avengers Mystery Villains

Speculation about who exactly Loki (Tom Hiddleston) recruits to serve as his army in The Avengers has literally been ongoing for years now.

Everything from recurring rumors to images from abandoned video game tie-ins have pointed to the culprits being extraterrestrials that are all-too-familiar to hardcore Marvel comic books fans. Similarly, a previously-unveiled Avengers toyline press release seemingly revealed that another recognizable antagonist could also be making an appearance in the film.

President of Marvel Studios production Kevin Feige recently set the record straight (or did he?) during a talk with Empire Magazine. It goes without saying: if you do not want to be spoiled about who is, and who is NOT going to be teaming up with Loki in The Avengers, STOP READING NOW.

Here is an excerpt from Feige’s intriguing discussion with Empire about Loki’s Army in The Avengers:

“Who said they were aliens?”… It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”

Similarly, Feige touched on the rumors about Red Skull showing up in the film:

“Was [Red] Skull vaporised at the end of ['Captain America: The First Avengers'], or thrust into another realm? That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.”

So, assuming that Feige isn’t just flat-out lying, it doesn’t sound like either the Skrulls or Kree are in cahoots with Loki, as has long been speculated; likewise, Red Skull apparently won’t be one of the Avengers’ main foes either.

All the same, there is still a lingering question: Do Feige’s comments also apply to The Avengers‘ post-credits scene – or could, say, a certain red-skinned baddie still show up briefly, during that portion of the film?

Everything will be revealed at last when The Avengers hits theaters in the U.S. on May 4th, 2012.

  1. The LEADER!!!!!!!aka samuel stern the guy that helped banner in the incredible hulk film who got hulk blood in his forhead wound at the end of the film. what happened to him??????? anyone? anyone????

  2. Leader and his created army and inventions.

    • I would like that a whole lot better than frost giants. I think the less Thor related stuff the better, or less worse. I’d rather have some generic aliens, or Atlanteans.

Your idea made me think about the other things from the movies that they’ve established so far. What about the super serum and the attempt to make more Hulks? As for the Leader, I would love to see those pink androids that would overwhelm the Hulk, and would stretch and bend when he tried to destroy them. Steve Ditko drew them.

  3. This is really not a spoiler at all. What did we really learn here? Nothing. We still do not know who teams with Loki, we only know who they CLAIM is not going to appear.

  4. i definetly think red skull is in it. as far as the alien thing goes i still think its the skrulls maybe maybe not it could also be hydra or a.i.m. because if red skull did survive the cube explosion (captain America:the first avenger) it may have transported him to where loki fell off the rainbow bridge (thor) and skull happened to catch him. Then from there loki may have gave skull some sweet asgardian equiptment to build some awesome weapons for hydra and tricked skull into working for him for world dominance or whatever. so thats what i think at least.

  5. find out more about real Scarlett by typing Scarlett Johansson clone in Google search bar and you would see much more then in The Island movie..

  6. You were made…to be ruled…

  7. In response to those of you who think Loki’s army will be the Frost Giants:
It’s a good theory, but you’re all forgetting about the tech…
The Frost Giants don’t use advanced weaponry, they use ice-thingies that come out of their arms.
And it’s not Asgardian tech either (as some of you have mentioned), because I specifically recall the Asgardians using swords, axes, maces, etc. and riding around on horses… NOWHERE in the movie did I see a single Asgardian using laser-guns or flying around in a flying machine.

The weapons seen in the set-photos look alien-based (something you might see the the Kree or Skrulls using in the comics). They have a certain look that makes me think of the Altanteans or Chitauri as well, but IMO, it can’t possibly be the Frost Giants, Elves, Dwarfs, etc. if those images are anything to go by.

    • I’ve had a chance to look at the on set shots of the alien weapons and have gone and reviewed some of the artworks and depictions of various aliens within the marvel U and have come to the opinion that the enemy army is not the skrull but rather the Kree. The kree have been shown to use staff type weapons and blasters and well as having some amount of gold in a few depictions. Story wise I’m thinking that the kree would better fall into the role of a generic alien military force rather than the skrull as the whole shapeshifting thing could get a little confusing and more of less force the story to lead into the secret invasion type stuff which Is not the case (this is a self contained avengers story from all accounts though of course will affect the upcoming future solo movie in one form of another). So that’s my call, what you think?

  8. I hope to see the Enchantres in there.

  9. I wasn’t spoiled at all. Here’s what I’m thinking A.I.M.+ Loki + Modok+cosmic cube= hella awesome movie :D

  10. Does anybody else think it will be a super criminal organization amalgam like the AIM, HYDRA, HAMMER,and the HAND that is going on in the books right now.

    • It won’t be HAMMER because that’s Norman Osborn’s territory (and Marvel Studios don’t own the rights to Norman Osborn)
And it won’t be HYDRA or AIM because mo-cap suits were used in the movie…

Anyway, every piece of info so far has indicated that it will be an “alien” force…
For example: Hiddleston said in an interview that he “made some shady deal on his travels through the universe”
And in this very article, Feige says the “alien race’s name isn’t impactful”

        • True… but I’m still betting on otherworldly beings (not an earth-bound-evil-organisation).

        • no, they can’t use anything in the avengers movie that is part of the “spideyverse” because the rights to certain aspects of the characters history along with the main elements of the character. all of the characters and organizations having to do with spiderman would be out of the marvel movie universe until disney/marvel buys back all the rights.

so any organization called HAMMER that appears in the “avengiverse” under other characters control would still be impossible in the movies.

  11. My goodness! As soon as I mention not getting any information about the 2 juggernauts, look what happens? I need to keep my big mouth shut. 8-)

  12. I just hope for some epic fight scenes, more like the final battle of TIH and less like the final battle of Thor. I mean let’s be honest Marvel’s fight scenes can be a little bit lacking sometimes, but I’ve been waiting for this movie for over four years. They better hope they make it right or they’ll have one angry beast on their hands lol;D

  13. I just hope the battles are more like the final battle in TIH because that was the best Marvel fight scene thus far most of the other ones have been too short I just hope the action is up to par
