‘The Avengers’ Trailer Is Here!

4 years ago by

At San Diego Comic-Con this year, the traditional go-to event for studios to showcase and tease their upcoming major projects, Marvel Studios was noticeably absent. They didn’t avoid the place entirely of course – that would cause a riot – but they did not host a panel presentation to talk about and show off The Avengers and other upcoming film projects, a major disappointment after bringing the entire cast on stage last year.

Instead, Marvel stuck to the show floor, handed out The Avengers character posters and brought some of the cast in to do signings for the fans. Next week, New York Comic-Con will be the place where Joss Whedon unveils his movie to the fans with new footage and the first ever full official trailer for The Avengers, a trailer which has just released online.

Our first look at The Avengers came attached as the post-credits “button” at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, which acted as a brief teaser to the ultimate comic book movie team-up. Then in August, Disney brought a panel and footage to their D23 event, much to the dismay of con goers who were hoping to see that same panel a month earlier in San Diego. This footage introduced the team members of The Avengers and gave a lot of screen time to Loki, our favorite antagonist from Thor, but much was held back in regards to the other villains of the film, the extra-terrestrial ones we keep hearing about.

Outside of revealing photos from the set of The Avengers which have become the main source of news headlines for the project, our last official look at The Avengers came attached to the Captain America Blu-ray release in a special featured titled ‘The Road to The Avengers” which featured very brief scenes intermixed with interviews with cast and crew.

You’ve met Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk before and we’ve seen what they’re capable of when put to the test. We’ve even been introduced to some of their friends in Black Widow and Hawkeye. But never have they faced an opponent such as this and never have they been forced to work together for a greater cause – watch and enjoy:

Watch the high-res version at Apple.com.

Visually it looks great and there are elements of Michael Bay all over some of the slow-motion city destruction scenes. Like the previous footage, the trailer acts as a teaser, focusing on brief snippets of the heroes and Loki, but holding back any reveals of the other villains of the film.

Here’s a gallery of screen grabs from the trailer for you to scrutinize:

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgard. It is of course written and directed by Joss Whedon, opening in theaters on May 4, 2012.

  1. So Epic! I was nervous that I’d see it and think, “blah”. Those doubts are put to rest. I also love how awesome Loki looks. And by awesome, I mean evil. But they are one in the same when it comes to Loki. :)

  2. epic!!!!!!!!

  3. Awesome

  4. Looks pretty good. Especially with the NIN track playing in the background ^_^

  5. Loki will be epic. This movie will be epic.

  6. Is it May yet?

  7. Awesome!!! cant wait.

  8. So epic. I cannot wait for next summer.

  9. Awesome.

  10. Awesomeness.

  11. I think everyone can agree that looks awesome.

    • I don’t. I’m one of the ones who’s really looking forward to this film but there’s one problem with the trailer….I CAN’T SEE THE FRAKING THING!!! I’m at work and don’t have Quicktime, and I can’t update my computer because of policy. This is so totally not cool. I guess I’ll just have to wait till I get home.

        • The Avenger also found a Youtube video of the trailer. I plan on going there later.

  12. Ugh! only on iTunes :/ I don’t have your crappy quicktime coded installed. Put it on youtube already!

  13. Ugh! only on iTunes :/ I don’t have your crappy quicktime codec installed. Put it on youtube already!

    • Thom,

Apple has the exclusive on this right now. We’ll upload it in a day or two.

  14. Iron man and cap scene. Freekin awesome

  15. thank you whedon you do not disappoint

  16. random hulk guy. k.

    • Yeah, who is that guy? Didn’t look anything near the guy from Incredible. Dissapointing :/

      • Its mark ruffalo, he is the new hulk and has been for a while. Edward Norton was the incredible hulk, and IMHO the best choice for the job

    • Ruffalo’s a fantastic actor in his own right. Everybody just wants Norton. It’s too bad, but it’s not Ruffalo’s fault that Norton wasn’t a team player.

  17. No skrulls revealed yet eh?

  18. well, it certainly looks like fun.

  19. I think we all agree “Epic” and “Awesome” are great descriptions for this trailer. I am going out on a limb and calling it “Bad A**”. Love the character interaction in it, Downey Jr is great

    • But the MUSIC! Its so out of place!! They needed a piece from Two Steps From Hell or something to make this trailer truly epic. For now, its just “okay”

  20. Total and complete geekgasm over the trailer. Seriously, it’s going to be a torturous 7 months waiting for this flick!

  21. Clint’s bow is little bouncy.

  22. Excuse me. I think I need to go clean my pants.

  23. Nice.

  24. So awesome. Hoping the post-production film meets this.

  25. Trent Reznor should do the score! ;-). Looks awesome!!!

    • YES!! NIN 4ever \m/

  26. Looks fantastic!
I still thinks Black Widow looks out of place though :p
We have sequences of Stark, Loki, Thor, Capt and the rest kicking all kinds of ass. Witty dialogue, cool action scenes, explosions and such.
Then you have Black Widow, who’s only contribution to the powerful team is the ability to pose well for the camera. She also kills a man in an overly complicated way by swinging around his neck like he was a stripping pole.

    I guess that’s Hollywood. :p

    • That´s exactly how I wanna be finished off.

      • If I had to go, Scarlett Johanssen’s legs wrapped around me is alright with me

        • Sure, it’s over complicated, but it looks great on camera. In an interview that came out a week or two ago, she expressed the same concerns to Whedon, who responded that “[Widow] is a killing machine. She’s badass.”

So, I’m sure she’ll carry her weight in spades.

          • Whedon is right. Black Widow is the ninja of the team, basically.

Glad Whedon knew the character that well.

    • I agree she looks like the token “girl” and pales in comparison to the rest of the cast. Guns and some martial arts skills are no match for the; God of thunder with his hammer of hurt, high tech mech dude, super soldier with invulnerable shield (and mad throwing skills), green tanking machine and archer with a large and variable bag of arrow tricks (along with Martials Arts)

Would MUCH rather have had Wasp (AND Ant-man) They are at least unique and can equal the skill sets of the other team members.

  27. This looks awesome, I am officially excited.

  28. Awesome.
