‘The Avengers’ Trailer Is Here!

2 years ago by

At San Diego Comic-Con this year, the traditional go-to event for studios to showcase and tease their upcoming major projects, Marvel Studios was noticeably absent. They didn’t avoid the place entirely of course – that would cause a riot – but they did not host a panel presentation to talk about and show off The Avengers and other upcoming film projects, a major disappointment after bringing the entire cast on stage last year.

Instead, Marvel stuck to the show floor, handed out The Avengers character posters and brought some of the cast in to do signings for the fans. Next week, New York Comic-Con will be the place where Joss Whedon unveils his movie to the fans with new footage and the first ever full official trailer for The Avengers, a trailer which has just released online.

Our first look at The Avengers came attached as the post-credits “button” at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger, which acted as a brief teaser to the ultimate comic book movie team-up. Then in August, Disney brought a panel and footage to their D23 event, much to the dismay of con goers who were hoping to see that same panel a month earlier in San Diego. This footage introduced the team members of The Avengers and gave a lot of screen time to Loki, our favorite antagonist from Thor, but much was held back in regards to the other villains of the film, the extra-terrestrial ones we keep hearing about.

Outside of revealing photos from the set of The Avengers which have become the main source of news headlines for the project, our last official look at The Avengers came attached to the Captain America Blu-ray release in a special featured titled ‘The Road to The Avengers” which featured very brief scenes intermixed with interviews with cast and crew.

You’ve met Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk before and we’ve seen what they’re capable of when put to the test. We’ve even been introduced to some of their friends in Black Widow and Hawkeye. But never have they faced an opponent such as this and never have they been forced to work together for a greater cause – watch and enjoy:

Visually it looks great and there are elements of Michael Bay all over some of the slow-motion city destruction scenes. Like the previous footage, the trailer acts as a teaser, focusing on brief snippets of the heroes and Loki, but holding back any reveals of the other villains of the film.

Here’s a gallery of screen grabs from the trailer for you to scrutinize:

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgard. It is of course written and directed by Joss Whedon, opening in theaters on May 4, 2012.

  1. “Hey Moviessucktoday.” Have to respectfully correct your statement on Thor vs the Hulk. Thor did not die. He almost dies but the Enchantress saved him before Hela could claim him. Then both Thor and Loki went to Hela’s realm to get the soul of Bruce Banner back. Which they did.

  2. Still say Edward Norton should have been playing hulk in this film. For this reason i hope the movie sucks

    • @legend

You act like he was screwed over or something. Edward Norton has nobody else to blame for not being in this movie or any further Marvel movies except himself. He’s INFAMOUS for being a complete pain in the a** to work with. Someone who doesn’t take direction well and thinks he knows better than everyone else on the staff. If I was in charge of making a movie, regardless of how good of an actor he is, and he is a great actor, I would not want to work with him. It makes for a hostile work environment and really doesn’t help the already hectic process at all…

I’m not 100% sure this is the reason, but that’s what I’ve heard and I believe it since I’ve basically heard the exact same thing about every other movie he’s worked on…

    • Norton was asked to reprise his role. He said no. He wouldnt have the control he wanted over the writing. Look it up.

    • Well, I hope the movie dosen’t suck, but I do think it’s hard to picture anyone else but Ed Norton as Bruce Banner.

  3. My my my! Aren’t we all mature in our comments and outbursts here? You hope the movie sucks because Ed Norton isn’t playing the Hulk? Screenrant really is a place to find humour and youthful exuberance. Makes my day!

@HG, what’s your take on Thor’s boots? I think I’d have loved to see the classic old laced ones with the high ‘knee-guards’. Dunno how they’d have translated on screen though..or how practicable in combat.

  4. Claude I gotta tell ya I think they would 1: Be more trouble then they are worth. And #2 very painfull. Think about if Thor had to drop to a knee and strike his hammer to the ground, Those things would kill his legs. Not to mention trying to walk or run in them. I think the boots are fine but I wish the pants were a bit different. I agree with not covering the legs with the armor, that would have looked a bit odd. I do wish he would have done the “For Odin, For Asgard line” Also a “Nay Villian” would have been cool. I love the longer hair.

  5. Lol! yeah the old boots would have been a bit cumbersome. I agree about the longer hair but I daresay it makes Hemsworth’s head look larger and his muscular arms oddly and proportionately smaller in some frames. Check out the pic where he’s having a good laugh. The hair’s probably part of the reasons why his shoulders and biceps look smaller than they really are. Probably why, as you said, the cast say he’s big on set and we don’t seem to quite see that. Anyway, let him do some major damage and some “I say thee nay!” and I’m good.

  6. This looks great! Cant wait!!!

  7. The cast looks great but the costumes are terrible they must have ran out of money for the costumes. They should have gotten the costume crew that made the new Superman movie. The only costume that looks good is Ironman and the Black widow, everyone else looks terrible except Captain Americas shield.

  8. This is like my 20th time watching this trailer i cant wait to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. This movie will under achieve. I will go and see it, just to see how the actors work together on screen. I do wonder, where is War Machine and why isnt he in this film. You have hawkeye who (to me and correct me if I’m wrong)doesnt hold a candle to War Machine when it comes to power output and a side kick. And waiting to the last minute to reveal who the other villain is realy puts a damper on this film. Loki, being one of the villains already adds to the lameness of this film.
