The Avengers: Phase One 10-Disc Blu-ray Collection Contents & Art Revealed

3 years ago by

On the eve of Comic-Con 2012, where Marvel Studios will unveil the first look at Iron Man 3 and tease “Phase Two” of the franchise, comes more exciting news for fans of the Marvel cinematic universe. The must-own comic book movie collection of the year is on its way and if you’re interested in picking up The Avengers on home video in September, or better yet, the entire Phase One: Avengers Assembled collection, Marvel has just offered a more in-depth look on what the set includes.

If The Avengers wasn’t a big enough deal at the worldwide box office, becoming the third top-grossing film of all-time, its home video release should follow the same trend, releasing with four different versions, with the monster full-series set (including all films) being teased with the following image:

Focusing on the 10-Disc collector’s set, Marvel has unveiled the limited edition’s contents in addition to the art work on the box sleeves containing the discs. The set comes in a SHIELD case similar to that seen in the films housing the Tesseract (Cosmic Cube) -the MacGuffin of the last few Marvel Studios films leading up to and including The Avengers.

Avengers Blu ray Phase One Collection 570x369 The Avengers: Phase One 10 Disc Blu ray Collection Contents & Art Revealed

The art for the box sleeves comes from Matthew Ferguson and is exclusive to this limited edition home video release. The sleeves may only be cardboard, but they look awesome. There’s one for each film with an additional S.H.I.E.L.D. inspired design.

It’s a shame these aren’t available as a Comic-Con poster collection similar to the concept art for each Avengers character released last year at the big event. These would make for some great banners to put on the wall. As for pricing, the big 10-disc Phase One set retails for $219 ($152.99 if you pre-order) with the 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack suggested retail price coming in at $49.99. The 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack and 1-Disc DVD have suggested retail prices of $39.99 and $29.99, respectively.

Marvel Studios presents “Marvel’s The Avengers”—the team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

The Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, Gwyneth Paltrow and Paul Bettany.

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014 and Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014.

  1. I like the art

    • Stop trying to summon a deamon!!!

  3. If I had a Blu Ray player, I would be all over that SHIELD package, so instead I shall opt for the 4 disc package. But still, HUMANA HUMANA HUMANA HUMANA HUMANA HUMANA HUMANA!!!!!

  4. WOW! Those are some of the best and unique Cover Arts for films I have EVER seen! It kills me that neither the separate Blu-Rays nor the posters even come close to how good those look. Now as for the “Bonus” Disc I don’t know if it carries all the extras from the separate Blu-Rays or only contains new extras. I hate the idea of even passing this set but this’ll need more than awesome artwork for me to consider getting this.

For those wanting just the Avengers the best set to get is the Target Exclusive 3D or 2D Blu-Ray sets. Those will have a 90 minute documentary called “Building a Dream: Assembling the Avengers”. This will tell how all the individual films connect with the Avengers using exclusive footage. I am skeptical on how good or bad this documentary will be but the Target set is still recommended.

  5. I’ve already pre-ordered mine its gonna be a great addition to my Blu-ray library. The next Blu-ray set will be the dark knight trilogy and I’m sure they’ll have an awesome set as well.

    • Blu-Ray

      • Actually, I’ve more often seen “Blu-ray”.

Seriously? THIS is on what you felt the need to comment? Really?

  6. It’s so awesome…. but it’s so expensive :(

  7. I have a Blu-Ray player but I cant afford this so im going to trade my dvd versions of IM,TIH,IM2,Thor, and CA:FA for the Blu-Ray of them.

  8. Cool set, but not into that art at all.

  9. $30 for a DVD?!? really? i can get brand new releases at walmart for $15.

  10. I already have IM 1 & 2 and Capt. America on Blu-ray and don’t really want Incredible Hulk. I’m not getting this whole thing just for Thor and The Avengers.

  11. I do so desire that set… however I also must feed and cloth my child. Annnnnnd $220 (I round up) will feed my family for 2 weeks. So yeah… bummer. :(

  12. sucks how the normal dvd doesn’t come with deleted scenes, guess 3D isn’t the only thing that is forced these days >:(

  13. It would be awesome to have if The Avengers wasn’t the only good film in there and one with an ending battle that lasts for more than 5 minutes.

  14. Wow. I can actually say my life would go on just fine if I had the knowledge that I’d never see any one these films ever again (Iron Man 1 being the exception). Every one (sans exception) was just such a let down for me. Looks like a cool collection for those who were into them. Sigh… I’ll probably have to wait another 20 years for a good reboot of some these films.

    • I could not disagree with you more.

  15. I already have all five… drat!

  16. No DVD or Digital copies included only the crappy 3D conversions. Thats fairly disappointing considering i would have bought this if it had the ‘triple/double play’. Oh well i guess ill just finish off my Phase 1 BD collection with Capt/Incredible Hulk and Avengers

  17. Just pre-ordered mine on Amazon. Now I have to save the money for it. :)

  18. But the 4-disc combo pack contains only 3-discs, if I count right:
    1. Blu-ray 3D
    2. Blu-ray
    3. DVD

So the 4th disc contains the bonus, right?

    • The fourth disc contains the digital copy, not the bonus disc :(

      • That would be unusual. Normally the digital copy is on the DVD.

        • Apparently it isn’t, but if that’s the case then I’m happy.
I REALLY want that bonus disc.

  19. Any word on extended version yet?

  20. i only have IM 1 and 2 so i may pre order….but i neeeeeed to know if it comes with the tesseract…if it does im sooo in…but if not ( for example if its just have a cube glued in there that you cant remove to show off than i thinks its cheaply made for $200+ any help??

  21. I’m so disappointed by the fact they’re not releasing a simple DVD combo pack of these films there are literally no words for it.

  22. That art is lovely, shows how utterly grotesque the normal Avengers box art is.

  23. “Bonus Disc – “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)”
Dammit! That one disc is really making me angry :(
I already own all the movies on BD and DVD, and I don’t have a 3D TV, so about 85% of this collection is worthless to me.

Still, as much as I loved the Marvel movies, there’s no way I’m spending all that money just for an awesome case, an awesome prop, a few pieces of paper and an awesome bonus disc…

But I’ve learned my lesson now: I won’t be supporting the Phase 2 Marvel movies by buying them on BD. Instead, I’ll do the sensible thing and wait till they release the Phase 2 collection.

    • I only have CA:TFA on Blu ray. Got IM1-2 and TIH on DVD. So I think, I’ll have to get this.

  24. Hold on..and help me here. 3D Blu-ray discs only work on 3D tv’s right? i mean…Lets say I-no, not me a guy i know. This guy i know buys the box-set and then he like puts the 3D Disc in his blu-ray player on a standard HDTV and then like..the guy i know buys like 3D glasses or something from amazon would that…work?..or no? This guy, i hate him sometimes.

  25. 139.96 on Amazon right now.

So does the case/tesseract actually light up? :)

  26. This isn’t on the UK Amazon yet…

  27. The money isn’t the issue, especially with the packaging and artwork…but I already own all of them on BR (TIH was a used copy but is/was perfect) and paying that much to get one extra disc is a little, MEH

I guess I’ll be going for the 4 pack unless the wife surprises me for my B-day in September :)

  28. I would get it for the cosmic cube – Thanos

    • Haha!

  29. Just preordered it on Amazon for $139.
