The Avengers 2 Release Date The Avengers 2 Release Date Confirmed; Will Get New Title

When Disney and Marvel Studios made the official announcement that Joss Whedon signed a three-year exclusive studio to write and direct The Avengers 2, while also helping develop a live-action TV series on ABC, it was very obvious when the sequel to the third-biggest box office success of all-time would come out.

Today, Disney and Marvel Studios have confirmed the date and to no surprise, The Avengers 2 will be coming to theaters May 1, 2015.

Let’s flashback just over one week ago where Disney released the following official statement about the Joss Whedon deal.

Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC.  He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.

We immediately called out the end-date of this deal as when The Avengers 2 would be coming out, and knowing how all three Iron Man films along with The Avengers opened each respective summer movie season in the first weekend of May, it was a no-brainer that The Avengers 2 - the sequel to the biggest summer film of all-time – would be doing the same on May 1, 2015. Here’s the official announcement:

The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015.

Each press release seemingly confirms or teases what the next could be about and this one confirms that The Avengers 2 won’t be titled “The Avengers 2.” Just like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World, the film will embrace a subtitle in favor of the numbered system employed by the Iron Man films.

Our other question directly relates to the bigger picture plans of Phase Two. The Avengers represented a fluke year in Marvel Studios’ forward-thinking plans of having at least two theatrical releases per year (The Runaways was initially meant to be the other for this year). With two-three films coming next year, and two confirmed films for 2014, it’s a safe bet that there will be at least one other 2015 release from Marvel Studios and it’d be smart for them to get it out just before The Avengers 2, utilizing a spring release date just as Captain America 2 will be doing in 2014.

Let the speculation begin!

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014 and The Avengers 2 on May 1, 2015.

  1. Im wondering if daredevil will be in the avengers as well? because he is a marvel character too.

    • No,unless a ‘Civil War’ storyline is done in “Avengers 3″ which i highly doubt.

    • of all the people to bring into the avengers u choose dare devil are you kidding me? i could see spiderman or superman but dare devil? seriously

      • Are you trolling when you say Superman?

      • superman is DC comics guy/girl get your comics right

    • sadly not for he is owned by a different studio :(

  2. i am righting “the Avengers 2″ script and i think it will be a family movie. but still, I’m very interested with Universal and Marvel pictures. i liked the first avengers because of the Hulk.

  3. i script righter of “the Avengers 2″ am very hoping that i will be it! I’m quit excited that it will work. then i can tell my friends and family that my first movie has been made. i want to watch this movie when i get it out to the public because i like the hulk, as we all know.

    • I hope you can write a great Avengers script one day. I am trying to be a writer too and I wish I had as passionate about it at your age. Just keep practicing and one day you will be a famous Screen Writer. Just make sure you pay attention in your English & Grammar classes. Grammar is very important because without proper grammar, nobody will be able to understand your great story. Good luck & make sure you have the Hulk smashing a lot. The more smashing the better.

  4. is the hulk famous ever?

    • yes

  5. I say they should feature Spider Man and the fantastic four, because their marvel too, right

    • @Kierrah – yes they’re Marvel, but unfortunantly Sony owns the rights to ‘Spidey’ and Fox Owns the rights to the Fantastic Four. But eventually i believe Disney will get those rights, if you can get Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars in your staple than you can get the rights back to those characters.

  6. Is the black panther, wasp and Dr pym going to be in avengers 2

  7. Why can’t you include Spider-Man?

    • Spider man’s cool

  8. wolverine. I hope

  9. what about the incredible hulk?is there a part two of the movie incredible hulk?their should be a part two.

  10. On the second one they should focus more on the hulks size because the first one he was way too small. And I thought the more mad he gets the more bigger and stronger he gets

  11. 2015!!!!!!!I’m gonna die before that happens!!!!!

    • @Emma – Don’t think that way, you have to think positive. I’m sure hoping to be around by 2015 and wayyyy beyond that, i’m hoping lol.

  12. I’d love it if Wonder Woman came out in Avengers 2 ♥.

    • Wonder womens DC :/

  13. @maria – Haha, you’ll have to wait for a “Justice League” film to see ‘Wonder Woman’, but there’s some cool female ‘Avengers’ who have yet to be used, ‘Mr Marvel’, ‘Wasp’ & ‘Scarlet Witch’ come to mind.

  14. Spider man was never in the cartoons with the Avengers -.- get over it….

    • Well, actually he was in the new avengers cartoon. But none of that matters because cartoons aren’t canon. In the Comics Spider-man does join the avengers but it’s so late in avengers history that there is a ton of other characters who join before him.

    • So.. did you not see the ‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’, season 2 episode 23? Spiderman is all up in that. Honorary Avenger ‘n stuff.

  15. they should call it The Avengers: The Second Initive or some thing like that

    • @Darshan – Or if ‘Thanos’ is indeed featured in the sequel either call it “Avengers : The Rise Of Thanos” or “Avengers : The Wrath Of Thanos”, something like that.

  16. Ant Man will be coming out in 2015 after the Avengers sequel, as the first movie of “Phase 3″

  17. @brandon – That’s the big question, if “Ant Man” is indeed the beggining to ‘Phase 3′ will Marvel leave ‘Phase 2′ at just 5 films or will they stay on course with 6 films for ‘Phase 2′ as well. If there is indeed 6 films in ‘Phase 2′ and “Ant Man’ is not one of them, you would have to think that “Black Panther” seems the most logigcal choice and than “Dr. Strange”. Those are the only reasonable choices i can see for ‘Phase 2′ if it’s not “Ant Man”.

    • Well it has been leaked that Dr. Strange will actually make a cameo appearance in Thor: The Dark World

      • @brandon – I heard that rumor a few months back, i don’t know if it’s true or not. If it true i wonder if it’s just one of those end of credits scenes that Marvel has now become famous for.

        • It probably will be lol. But the source is pretty legitimate considering the extra who heard the name on said has no clue who the character is lol

    • Well don’t forget about the runaways.

  18. how come there is no black panther…..isn’t he part of the avengers too

    • @Kaos_one – Yep, he is. Hopefully Marvel won’t stub their toes along the way and add this great character to the ‘Avengers’ line-up like he deserves to be.

  19. We have to wait 2 years … Really ??? That’s a long time

    • @E – Yeah it’s a little wait, but there will be plenty of Marvel films before that to keep your attention, i’m sure of it. And besides, the way time flies by these days, 2015 will be here before you know it.

  20. Its just a thought but I think that some of the Avengers should have some children .

  21. @Susie – Well you never know what the future films might hold. They had kids in the comics, so we’ll see.

  22. Bring in Spiderman!

    • It will never happen as long as sony owns the rights.

  23. this movie was amazing but i dont imagine them changeing who the avengers are. i dont believe they should change the superheros, take away or add because this group of heros are amazing together and i dont imagine any additional superhero being added will have an affect on how powerful they are. looking forward to the next movie cant wait to see it.

    • @NONAME – Well history says your wrong my friend, THE AVENGERS have always been a team of characters that increase and decrease depending on the situations and the foes. And i can tell you this, if they’re going to be facing off against who the first film hinted at, they’re going to need more help on the team, or you don’t know THANOS and his history too well. Plus if the movie makers follow what you suggest than we would never get the chance to see the likes of BLACK PANTHER, MS. MARVEL, ANT-MAN aka GIANT MAN, WASP, VISION, SCARLET WITCH or QUICKSILVER, that’s too many great charcters to pass up without seeing some of them on the big screen.

  24. There is no way my all time favorite, spider-man is going to be getting a 3rd reboot, like he deserves any time soon. Nor would it be taken seriously by anyone, but either way I would love to see the Sony chewed up and shat out spider-man cross over into the next avengers movie. Sony already said they would let the studio doing the avenger movies use Oscorp tower as a cameo so who knows…

  25. avengers 2 I have to wait 2 yers for it to kome out so NOT COOL MAN if its 2 yers away way put it online;ani ways ay kant wait.

  26. I loved the avengers and I can not wait to see the second avengers in the movie theaters.

    • Amanda i’m in total agreement with you, “Avengers” was a fanatastic film and i don’t think i ever had a better moviegoing experience. I too am looking forward to seeing where ‘Josh Whedon’ and company go next with “Avengers 2″. Me and a friend of mine we’re saying how the “Avengers” films just might be the “Star Wars” of this generation, of course time will tell.

  27. so looking forward to the sequel, i believe marvel is leagues ahead of DC.the way they created every individual character and brought it to one movie( the avengers) was great. i personally will love to see wolverine in an avenger movie. farfetched but hey nice to dream.

i dont see DC creating a justice league to compete with marvel however who knows what can happen.
in the end the movies the are taken from comics are awesome, just when you think things cannot get better ,it does.

  28. are the same characters going to be in avengers 2 i think they should add another Marvel character in the movie. An original character from the comic books a really good Marvel hero i think that would be cool.

    • @Linda – They will definantly add some more new mebers to the ‘Avengers’ line up in “Avengers 2″, Maybe 2-4 new additions i would guess.

  29. They should include more of the Marvel Characters like spider man and wolverine.

    • @Linda – They can’t include ‘Spidey’ or ‘Wolvie’, they’re properties of ‘Sony’ & ‘Fox’ respectively.
