The Avengers 2 Confirmed The Avengers 2 Release Date Confirmed For 2015 [Updated]

[Update: Just as we suspected, The Avengers 2 is coming May 1, 2015.]

While the nitty gritty details of Joss Whedon’s three-year deal with Marvel Studios have yet to be revealed, as soon as the news broke that he would writing and directing The Avengers 2, we knew exactly what that meant. Just like he did with editing bits of Captain America: The First Avenger and shooting the post-credits scene of Thor before taking charge of The Avengers, Whedon would be overseeing the “big picture” plans for Marvel Studios as they venture forth into Phase Two of the franchise.

When asked for more information, Disney provided us with the official Marvel statement on the matter, which briefly outlines Whedon’s exclusive agreement with the studio for the next three years leading up to The Avengers 2.

Fans will be happy to hear that Whedon will be integral to helping organize and connect the upcoming films from Marvel Studios. The timing of this announcement likely means he won’t be too involved with Iron Man 3 which has mostly completed principal photography, but he can still help guide the seemingly complex story of Thor: The Dark World which starts production this month. After that, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy could both be introducing characters and elements to be featured in The Avengers 2.

“Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC.  He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”

The wording of the statement specifically mentioning June 2015 as the end date of his exclusive agreement means The Avengers 2 is releasing that month, or, like all of the Iron Man films and the first Avengers, will be kicking off the summer blockbuster season in May 2015 (the 1st to be exact). No surprise there. Although The Avengers represented the only Marvel Studios theatrical release for 2012 (since Runaways was put on hold), 2015 will likely see at least one other feature from Marvel Studios.

Ant-Man seems poised for a 2014 release, marking the first time the studio launches three films in one year, and this raises the questions of what other film they could fit in as a prelude to The Avengers sequel (by releasing that spring) and whether or not such a movie could be used to introduce an additional headliner to join the team-up’s growing roster? Will Ruffalo get a chance to lead The Incredible Hulk 2? Is it time for Black Panther? Let the speculation begin!

If you’re a fan, check out The Avengers Blu-ray details and clips along with our list of 15 characters we want to see in The Avengers 2.

Iron Man 3 releases May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014 and Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014. The Avengers 2 will release in the summer of 2015.

  1. Thano who purpose is to try and impress some chick named Mistress Death and he’s willing to derstroy everything in the universe to do it.

Thanos is a mutant member of the race of superhumans known as the Titanian Eternals. The character possesses abilities common to the Eternals, but amplified to a higher degree through a combination of his mutant Eternal heritage, bionic amplification, mysticism, and the entity Death. Demonstrating enormous superhuman strength, stamina, and durability, Thanos can absorb and project vast quantities of cosmic energy and is capable of telekinesis, telepathy and matter manipulation. Thanos is an accomplished hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained in the art of war on Titan.

Thanos is a genius in virtually all known fields of advanced science and has created technology far exceeding contemporary Earth science. He often employs a transportation chair capable of space flight, force field projection, teleportation, time travel and movement through alternate universes. Thanos is also a master strategist and uses a space vessel called Sanctuary II as a base of operations.

This group of Avengers is currently no match for Thanos.

  2. whenever is disney going to buy spiderman?

    • with the recent success of TASM I would say, not a chance in hell.

    • Disney seems no longer interested in buying Spider-man franchise but Sony and Disney seems to be interested in incorporating TASM in Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney’s main legal battle now is only with Fox. Fox are not willing to collaborate with Disney and they do not want any involvement of Disney in anything they’re doing.

Sony let Disney get involved in merchandising. Sony allowed Disney to show Oscorp in Avengers but the problem was the building was not yet done and Avengers already needed to complete filming.

  3. Hulk needs to get a movie going – How can all the other characters get more solo movie’s but miss out the Big Green Guy after he stole the show in Avengers !

    • I thought they said they were making a Hulk TV show about his past, before the first movie possibly. I hope that doesn’t take away from him getting a movie or someone like Heroes for Hire getting a TV show. We need to move forward, not look back and Hulk is too big for TV.

    • Black Widow didn’t get her own film either.

    • Yes., my name adam I’M TRYING TOO GET INTI MOVIES FLIM I NEVER OWN A TOY, BED, ETC HAD NOTHING BEEN WORKING SINCE I WAS 7 YEARS OLD I ADAM ORTIZ BEEN TOO DOWN AND UP AND WORKED EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE TODAY I ADAM ORTIZ HAVE A FAMILY OF 5 KIDS, WIFE., I ADAM ORTIZ TRY TOO GO COLLEGE NO ONE WANNA ACCEPT ME, I HAVE A 1983 CAMERO Z28 454 ENGINE IF YOU COULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SEND EMAIL ABOUT HOW TO BE SUCCESS AMERICAN I ADAM ORTIZ HAVE NO BLOOD FAMILY SUPPORT EVER IN MY LIFE GOD BLESS

  4. Please there needs to be more Black superhero flicks would love to see a Black Panther stand-alone movie it couldnt be worse than the daredevil bull***, Luke Cage would be interesting but he’s just like Cap A whose already boring as he is…straying away from the marvel basis DC needs to relaese a Statci Shock film would be so dope

    • Black Panther solo film would be perfect for Marvel methinks.

Could team-up with Hulk if they want to get creative.

    • That would be great man.

  5. the avengers is not just the 5 superheroes(but,i think everybody knows that). if they want to fight against thanos then they would assemble more members(nearly the whole marvel heroes are members),just like in the comics. so,the answer to the comments about the question that the current group can´t beat thanos is clear,i.m.o.. they assemble more avengers, and they will be introducede in the upcoming marvel movies.

  6. I just came from my local comic book store, picked up an older Uncanny X-Men, and the place was a beehive of activity. A few years back there were tumbleweeds drifting through between the D&D books and the figurine rack.

and all things Avengers is huge. Good goin’ Whedon and Marvel, the comic book store owners are reapin’ the profits. well…At least some.

But as far as the other 2015 marvel movie, I’d like a Black Panther, he’s my favorite superhero and NOT a batman ripoff. T’CHALLA RULES FOREVER!However, I think Ruffalo is getting his Hulk movie and it’s gonna tie into the TV show.

    • I’ve been selling comic books on Ebay for a few years and my business is starting to pick up this summer. Hope it keeps up. It is an expensive habit to keep up on all the stories.

    • They managed to over-saturate the comic book business and run it into the ground back in the 90′s, with the popularity of the movies I hope they aren’t doing the same thing again. They have already rebooted a few of the movies and the books seems to be hitting the restart button every few years as well. They seem to hold some fans interest for 5 years now and then look to get new ones whether they retain the older fans or not.

  7. The avengers 2 will be realese in 2015 and also that two more marvel will be realese and it will be black panther, doctor strange movies will be realese and the incredible hulk 2 will be 2016 .

  8. this is retarded after all those films they should just keep the avengers together

  9. as Eddie implied I’m blown away that a person able to profit $7977 in four weeks on the internet. did you look at this site N u T tyR icH D ot C o m

  10. Now would be a great time for a Grey Hulk movie followed a She-hulk movie followed by a Grey Hulk vs wolverine then Planet Hulk followed by World War Hulk & goes ito the Red Hulk movie.

  11. HEY WAIT A MINUTE WHAT ABOUT ANTMAN

  12. OH wait, so antman”seems” poised for 2014? none of this “seems” or “likely” stuff and only deliver official news.

  13. Galactus Is Coming To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

How?, you ask. Isn’t Galactus trapped at Fox as part of the Fantastic Four rights package? He sure is, but Kevin Feige and his team of dream wizards at Marvel Studios are right now engaged in character swap talks – Marvel will get Galactus and the Silver Surfer in exchange for letting Fox hang on to Daredevil. Right now Fox is staring down an October 10th start of shooting in order to keep DD’s rights, and they have big plans for the character.

This is pretty amazing news. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets more cosmic, the presence of Galactus seems key. And while he appeared as a f****** cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, I firmly believe that the current Marvel Studios will represent him fairly faithfully. After all, he’s one of the best designs of all time.

Here’s my one critique: rather than negotiate for the characters, why not work out a co-production deal? Fox is rebooting The Fantastic Four with Chronicle director Josh Trank directing and sexual tyrannosaur Jeremy Slater writing, but why not let them set their film in the Marvel Universe? Let’s just go whole-hog here and bring the Marvel characters together. There’s no way that will be anything but good for Fox’s film, and I think it can be done in a way that won’t f*** up the plans that Trank and Slater are making already.

  14. I agree that Fox & Marvel/Disney should come to an agreement with releasing Glatactus & Silver Surfer. I mean come on, Disney would make a better movie anyways.

As for adding more Avengers. It defintely needs to be done. Who?? It’s time for Black Panther!!!! End of conversation. Why isn’t Wolverine there? Ms. Marvel?

On the Ant-Man movie, he better become an Avenger and lastly if they do not add Wasp in the movie I will walk the f*** out

  15. Will they add Spider-man?

    • thanks 2 all the directors n producers uv created the best movies ever!!! thor, iron man, c america n d averngers… just saying
