We haven’t heard much about the upcoming A&E mini-series based on Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain in almost a year.
Well guess what? It’s almost upon us and A&E just put out a trailer for the two part TV movie.
The original movie, for it’s time, blew me away. It was really terrifying and was the first movie based on a Michael Crichton novel. This was LONG before Jurassic Park. Personally, I’m ecstatic to see a Crichton story back in movie form; I’m pretty sure he’s on some Hollywood blacklist for his views contradicting so-called “Global Warming™” (now being referred to as “Climate Change” as more and more data comes out to refute it, but I digress).
Although this is a cable TV movie, it’s got some heavy names behind it, including Ridley Scott & Tony Scott.

The original version came out way back in 1971… probably longer ago than most of you reading this have been alive. ![]()
In the original film the basic story was about a U.S satellite that crashes to Earth, bringing with it a deadly virus that it somehow picked up in space. Everyone in the vicinity, including the soldiers sent to retrieve it either die or commit suicide in a grisly fashion. Everyone that is except for a crying baby and an old man with ulcer. The race is on to determine why these two very different people were immune to this alien virus.
As far as I know there’s no exact air date set yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do. You can also sign up for email updates over at the official site for the movie.

Yes! Awesome trailer, I read this book when I was in highschool and thought it’d be a great movie. Looks really well done, I’m pumped to see Daniel Dae Kim in the cast!
Yeah I was young and this movie was a little over my head, I suppose. I seem to remember blood turned to sand and yeah, since you mentioned it, I recall that the old man creeped me out.

I watched this trailer the other night. I love the original film, and while I’m intrigued by this new version, it looks like they’re turning the virus into the same sort of “rage virus” that you get in 28 Days Later and I Am Legend. It doesn’t look like that’ll be a huge plot point, but it’s enough to bug me. The story’s plenty intense without it.
On a whim, I checked out the trailer the other day and I was pretty impressed too. It’s been toooo long since I’ve seen the original so I can’t comment but this has definitely got my attention.
