After Spider Man 4 failed to get off the ground in 2010, Sony opted for a reboot instead – The Amazing Spider-Man. Although some fans of Sam Raimi’s trilogy initially scoffed at the idea, most of them eventually came around. The film ended up being both a commercial ($750 million at the box office) and modest critical success.

While promoting the upcoming release of the Blu-ray/DVD, director Marc Webb and his visual effects team recently revealed that there are Easter eggs all throughout the film that hint at what we can expect from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Courtesy of Entertainment News Online, Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Jerome Chen said:

“There’s a scene where Gwen is in the Oscorp lab giving a tour to a series of students and there could be Easter eggs in there. There’s also an Easter egg at the end of the movie.”

What the eggs might reveal about the second film is unclear. Could they expose which villains might appear in the upcoming sequel?

Unfortunately, other members of the crew aren’t giving much else away. Additional Animation Supervisor David Schaub said of the final sequence:

“In the very last shot of the film where [Spider-Man] is swinging, [he] gets himself shot out of the crane and he’s flying down past the George Washington Bridge and he strikes a pose. There’s an Easter egg – but I can’t tell you any more than that – [that's] for something to come.”

It’s a rather clever marketing strategy by the filmmakers and Sony to use the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Amazing Spider-Man to generate excitement and anticipation for the sequel. The Easter egg hunt will give fans more incentive to buy the DVD/Blu-ray, which will hopefully entice them to watch the sequel, too.

During the interview, Webb also shed some light on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and on what moviegoers should expect from the next installment:

“The last movie, Peter’s sort of discovering his powers and he’s getting gradually better. Peter, in the next movie, is going to be a virtuoso. Spider-Man, from the outset, is a pro. He’s an expert, and he’s having a blast, and he is just electrifying in terms of his abilities as Spider-Man. That’s going to be really fun. I’m really looking forward to a lot of those sequences.”

So it appears that Spider-Man fans will be in for another thrilling film. As far as the eggs go, it looks like we’ll have to wait until Friday to find out what they reveal.

You can help unravel the mystery by getting your copy of The Amazing Spider-Man on Blu-ray or DVD on November 9th. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

  1. Just had another look at the end shot all i can see is some birds Vulture maybe but very hidden

  2. Please let the sequel of TASM crap fail so Marvel can get the rights back!

The first one was clearly just a money grab.

    • Maybe it was just a money grab, but it was one heck of an awesome money grab!! ;-)

  3. Must… Get… MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. George Washington Bridge you say? hmmm Venom?

    • Isn’t that where Green Goblin and Spider Man fought in the first movie/comics?

      • But then I hope they don’t kill Gwen off in the second movie :(

  5. Found this article with some screen shots:

    • Articles pretty interesting’ thanks man. I’m really excited about this one, I’d love to see Jamie Foxx as Electro or really any Spider-Man baddie because he’s overall a great actor, it will be interesting to see him in the movie because out of all the actors in both Raimi’s and Webb’s trilogies he’s probably the most famous of all the actors.

      • No problem! Michael B.’s theory would be pretty bad ass

    • Ik its funny but the “pose” I see is the “crane pose” from the karate kid movie from the 80′s? Dont know if that would mean anything, but thats all I saw in that photo! and Electro IS gonna be in Spidy 2!! I have NEVER seen a “dove” or “pigeon” at night? so maybe that is something?
Cant wait to see it, I will have it at midnight tonite

  6. ok, I fumbled on the Crane and Vulture analogy earlier. I think that the next Spider Man will be The Sinister Six, the death of Stacy and the introduction of the black suit to defeat the six. If they are following it based on the Ultimate universe which will set the last one up for a Venom showdown

    • Omg! If he defeats the Six by obtaining the black suit and the 3rd movie will be about Venom and Carnage. This will be the best trilogy yet!!

      • *not sure if these qualifies as spolers but SPOILERS* well yeah, Oscorp develops weapons, right? It’s going to be hard to put together but they can have the sinister six and at least the origin of the black suit in the second movie and introduce Eddie Brock who progresses in to becoming the villain for the third one. If they are following the Ultimate sotryline then Gwen Stacy hooks up with Eddie Brock. The loss of Gwen Stacy can be the key to throwing both Eddie and Peter over to the dark side. Now all that remains to be seen is if there will be a goblin as well, I mean after all, he is key to the story line I’m talking about

        • I remember in the 90s cartoon, Eddie was already working for JJJ before Parker started working there. So in the 2nd movie, they can have Parker start working for JJJ and Eddie will already be a co-worker.

          • *more potential spoilers* Exactly, what we are possibly looking at is a fast pace story that mixes interesting fight scenes to a point where Spider-Man is tested beyond his capabilities and has to adopt the Symbiot suite made by his parents (while digging deeper in to their history). As well as some crazy character development, all at the same time for everyone involved, there pretty much will be no room for anything but character development if they have to juggle all these acts. The scene at the end of TAS already has established that the villains already exist in some capacity. And going back to the Lizard, the goblins really are just enhanced Lizards/dragons. Another easter egg thrown in there as well, or at least I thought it was. Was when the Lizard threw what could’ve very well passed as a pumpkin at Spiderman. So it definitely goes back to the Sinister six. As all – or at least most – of those villains are referenced one way or another.

            • i agree bro that sounds like it could/will happen

            • When you saying like that my manit sounds great and fun and very doable though it would be pretty tricky putting a team of villains in a movie with one hero I think it would be great. If you could cast anybody as Venim who would it be I’d choose Jai Courtney for Venom Goblin I say maybe Jason Isaacs or maybe Christophe Waltz oth are really great actors and make awesome bad-guys

    • I thought Gwen was still alive in the ultimate universe but read several of your post and your theories do sound logically even though it is hard for me to find the easter eggs. I cannot make the connections cleary. I know from reading several of the ultimate spidey tpbs that venom was introduced in the oscorp labs if i remember corectly just do not want to get up and flip threw the tpb.

  7. The easter egg for the “Gwen stacy Oscorp Tour” scene is that while she was explaining the theory of limb rejuvenation syrum. they show a holgramic screen which showed a “RINO!!!” and a few others that i cant recall but that one stuck with me. i flipped out when i saw it in theatres but i was the only one haha

  8. Flaws and all – this movie kicked Avengers AND ESPECIALLY the Dark Sh*te Rises right in the ball-sac!

    • Am I the only one that LOVED Avengers, Amazing Spiderman, AND Dark Knight Rises this year?

      • It was just you and me I guess man…Shame thoough. People can’t just let loose and enjoy stuff I guess.

        • You two aren’t that alone I fell in love with all three movies and am proud to sayihave all three movies on DVD

      • Yeah! I absolutely loved all three. Great year for superhero movies!

      • @ Robert
        You’re not the only one.
Although I should admit, I’ve started to question some of my love for TDKR. I’m curious to see it again when it hits Blu-ray.
But I still stand bye TASM and of course The Avengers…

        • Loved em’ all to guys

      • No dude! They were all freaking awesome!

  9. Vulture’s name wouldnt be crane, but the toomes. Notice the last scene, it is not the birds. Its the moon and the clouds. The moon is mysterios head and the clouds are the purple robe of his. The man who speaks to connors is gustave fiers, he knew about peter parents and sends someone to kill them, but peter. Meaning he know something. Oh almost forgot. He starts the sinister six so…yeah…

  10. Vultures name wouldnt be crane, but the toomes.

  12. He said “electrifying” so I’m assuming Electro will indeed be in this after all ha

  13. Venom/Carnage storyline would be jaw-droppingly incredible… I really hope they could pull something like that off

  14. only problem I have with the Rino theory is that the company that made the game said they were not allowed to use any villains that they were thinking abut using for the movie trilogy. I guess that could always be changed but if it is true then Rino will not be used because he was in the game.

    • That would be a bummer. If they do end up doing the sinister six then I want Rhino in there.

  15. What I think it possibly is Mysterio might make an appearance. If you look closley those birds (probably doves) appear out of nowhere. A typical magician trick is making doves appear out of nowhere. Mysterio.

    • Not a bad theory

  16. You all missed the BLATANT easter egg! Can’t believe no one saw this! I have made it clear in the picture below. And no, this isn’t photoshopped. You can search up the original pose shot and this easter egg will be present.

You can clearly see that it’s a Lizard, but I might be wrong. But that is CLEARLY an easter egg. Now it’s up to you guys to guess what it is. But I’m pretty sure it’s a Lizard.

But other than that, yeah, the cloud in the background sure looks like a lightning bolt. And then you have Mysterio’s silhouette in the sky as well…

    • But we just had the Lizard…

      • Yeah, I know. But that easter egg is probably pointing to the fact that the Lizard will come back, whether it be in the next movie or in the 3rd.

  17. Forgot the link!

    http://i.imgur.com/plqb3.png

    • I SEE IT! In all honesty, it looks more like Godzilla, or at least a crocodile. Lizard in the movie didn’t have that big of a snout (as we know very well from the fan outrage).

      • Actually, looking at it again, it might be a crane. Or maybe the reflection of some raised platform or something used for filming, meaning it’s not meant to be there. But i dont know.

  18. Venom will get his own movie before being in a spiderman movie. They then plan on doing a “team up” movie between the two, undoubtedly surrounding Carnage. Rumor is the story is about Eddie Brock is made famous by writing a news article that put a serial killer behind bars. Later Spiderman catches the real serial killer (likely kleatus cassidy) Thus debunking Eddie Brock and he loses all credibility and is blamed for putting an innocent man behind bars. Leaving brock to hate spider man.

    thats the rumor anyway.

    • I want there to be a big showdown between Venom and Spiderman in The Amazing Spiderman 3 and then have a venom spinoff movie where perhaps Carnage is introduced then have a Spiderman Venom team up were they have to (grudgingly) join forces to defeat Carnage once and for all.

  19. Also in the lab scene behind the kids there is a set of 4 odd metal tentacle looking things. Hard to tell but that may be the Dr octopus shout out everyone was looking for. Makes sense that all signs point to sinister 6

  20. I love the Sinister Six theory, and if done correctly, Webb could easily introduce them all within the movie as pre-established villains. The symbiote being created by his parents would make for a majorly interesting twist. And maybe in the end, after defeating the S6, Peter could realize it’s too dangerous and tries to destroy it, however the symbiote escapes and finds none other than Eddie Brock, who could be established in the film as others said, by making him a current employee of the bugle when Peter comes in. That would set up the Venom spin-off perfectly and have the cross-over in ASM3 when Carnage appears. Best. Movie Trilogy. Ever.

  21. OMG ppl, you are so dummmmm. At the last shot, right after Spider-man shoots himself out of the crane-thingy, it goes in slo-mo. To his right, there is a mansion-like building, with an O on it. It’s the Osborn Mansion.

  22. The Easter Egg is that when Spidey goes in slo mo at the end, at the right, there’s a building with an O. It’s a mansion, the OSBORN mansion.

  23. The mansion, yes, saw that, wondered the same… BUT, if you keep going past the yellow pants in the alley to JUST AS the birds fly out of nowhere, you will notice that just ONE of them is GREEN… Vulture… Go ahead, slow it down, pause, whatever, it’s there. Combine that with the rhino from the tour, yellow pants from the same scene, even the moon as mysterio/post credits disappearing act, and even the lightning, Webb has placed Sinister Six nods everywhere.

  24. The clouds making the robe of mysterio, hint at sandman. Lolo at the hace formed at the left top córner. Clearly sandman. Notice the neck which is at spidermans foot height. The foot has 6 circles Also haha. I’m not saying we will see all of them but it is clear that is what webb was hinting at.

  25. Guys, guys, guys. Spidey is launching himself out of a crane. CRANE. The villain is gonna be the Scarecrow. Yeah, yeah, I know that he’s a DC villain, but still, it’s a CRANE. There’s no denying the facts.

I mean, clouds mean it’s Mysterio, a different cloud means it’s Electro, pants means it’s Shocker, birds means it’s vulture, and a famous bridge means it’s the Goblin. But those are all ridiculous theories. It’s SO much more plausible to say it’s Dr. Jonathan CRANE.

  26. Its the “Sinister Six”. Heres the rundown, as i watched through both shots multiple times. The Oscorp. tour from beginning to end, when Peter gets there to when he gets kicked out. 1)Mechanical arms all over the place (Doc Ock), 2)Tree of Life shows a Rhino and a Vulture. Ending sequence – 1)Peter looking down at the traffic, grid on road looks like the shockers pattern on his costume – Shocker 2)Spiderman shoots through crane arm, more metal arms – Doc Ock 3) Strikes a bird like pose – Vulture 4)swings through buildings, catch a glimpse of yellow pants – Shocker, 5) and purple and green shirts – Chameleon and/or Green Goblin 6) swings out of buildings and disturbs doves, moon and cloud – Mysterio 7) lightning – Electro. Plus all the little hints throughout the movie like the lightning poster in Dr. Connors lab and than in the sewers, and a Chameleon is the 1st lizard to appear when Spidey makes a web in the sewers.

    • Dam yo. You really went in lol. But all of that makes sense. Now I’ma have to go back and watch the movie to verify your info, but I don’t mind that :P.

  27. On that last shot, there seems to be suction cups on spider mans boots?

  28. On that last shot, there seems to be suction cups on spider mans boots? Does that mean mysterio?
