After Spider Man 4 failed to get off the ground in 2010, Sony opted for a reboot instead – The Amazing Spider-Man. Although some fans of Sam Raimi’s trilogy initially scoffed at the idea, most of them eventually came around. The film ended up being both a commercial ($750 million at the box office) and modest critical success.

While promoting the upcoming release of the Blu-ray/DVD, director Marc Webb and his visual effects team recently revealed that there are Easter eggs all throughout the film that hint at what we can expect from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Courtesy of Entertainment News Online, Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Jerome Chen said:

“There’s a scene where Gwen is in the Oscorp lab giving a tour to a series of students and there could be Easter eggs in there. There’s also an Easter egg at the end of the movie.”

What the eggs might reveal about the second film is unclear. Could they expose which villains might appear in the upcoming sequel?

Unfortunately, other members of the crew aren’t giving much else away. Additional Animation Supervisor David Schaub said of the final sequence:

“In the very last shot of the film where [Spider-Man] is swinging, [he] gets himself shot out of the crane and he’s flying down past the George Washington Bridge and he strikes a pose. There’s an Easter egg – but I can’t tell you any more than that – [that's] for something to come.”

It’s a rather clever marketing strategy by the filmmakers and Sony to use the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Amazing Spider-Man to generate excitement and anticipation for the sequel. The Easter egg hunt will give fans more incentive to buy the DVD/Blu-ray, which will hopefully entice them to watch the sequel, too.

During the interview, Webb also shed some light on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and on what moviegoers should expect from the next installment:

“The last movie, Peter’s sort of discovering his powers and he’s getting gradually better. Peter, in the next movie, is going to be a virtuoso. Spider-Man, from the outset, is a pro. He’s an expert, and he’s having a blast, and he is just electrifying in terms of his abilities as Spider-Man. That’s going to be really fun. I’m really looking forward to a lot of those sequences.”

So it appears that Spider-Man fans will be in for another thrilling film. As far as the eggs go, it looks like we’ll have to wait until Friday to find out what they reveal.

You can help unravel the mystery by getting your copy of The Amazing Spider-Man on Blu-ray or DVD on November 9th. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

  1. I just hope j Jonah Jameson will be in the sequel.

  2. him using the word electrifying imo is him trying to tell us that electro will indeed be the villain, otherwise why would be use that specific word to describe peter’s advancement/epiness as a hero ?

as for the hints, i cbb getting the movie just to scrub to those 2-3 scenes, if anyone has a link to a video showing the easter eggs or knows what the easter eggs are then please link/comment back to my (this) post.

    • The last scene with the Spidey pose…a lot of birds that remind me of…Vulture!. Can’t get the labe ref.

      • the pose i think they mention is the one right when he shoots out of the crane and kinda freezes in mid air. i cant figure it out, but i do notice 2 helicopters of in the distance shining their spotlights on some roofs. other than that i have no idea yet.

        • Im thinking the pose will be the exact same pose before Gwen Stacy “gets it” :o

      • You nailed it buddy, Crane, birds isn’t the bird villain dude’s name crane?

    • That immediately hit me as well.

  3. Actually if the Second movie has AT LEAST a cameo from Black Cat, I’m In. I have always been partial to Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Question is: WHO would make a Good Felicia Hardy/Black Cat?

    • Rachel Mcadams for me is a cert – with a wig on of course

  4. “…he is just electrifying…”

could that also allude to Electro as the next villain?

As for easter egg. i have a feeling the GW Bridge shot is an Easter egg to it’s important role in the sequel involving Gwen Stacy. Thats just a guess.

    • that Gwen Stacy prediction is what I was thinking too. Especially since we’ve heard they cast someone for Mary Jane…

  5. I think the “electrifying” comment actually ties into another casting rumor about The Shocker being the villain and it’s said that Jamie Foxx is in talks to play that role.I approve of that choice

    • Electro not Shocker

    • Lol, the shocker. Two in the Spidey and one in the hidey?

      • Shocker is in the Sinister Six, which is a distinct possibility.

    • bot shocker does sonic booms, not electricity

  6. Glad to hear Peter will kick ass in the sequel, it’s so nice to finally see a confident Spidey, in tune with his abilities. That’s why I loved the pre-one more day spidey, he had years of experience and he did’t even have to sweat with the small fries.

  7. With the bridge scene all I can think of is the Gwen Stacey nosedive :s

  8. At least we can expect a gradual development of peter parker as a person. Not like – my uncle died and the next second I am swinging in like a hero. I also expect them to play out death of Gwen Stacy in the sequel.

  9. Personal opinion : Zac Efron would’ve been an urrgh spiderman.

    • Considerably worse than that in my opinon.

  10. I just watchd those scenes again and other than the birds at the end, that were already mentioned as a possible Vulture hint, I saw a bald guy at OsCorp walking around in the background. Maybe they really hinted at the Vulture…

  11. George washington bridge means death of Gwen, doesn’t it?
    That ‘ll be HEARTBREAKING.
And I am looking forward to it.
    Can’t understand the other.
Only thing I remember was that Norman osborn was shown on a screen once. What else?

  12. We all know that the easter egg he’s referring to at the end is the original spider man pose. They even said that before the movie came out.

  13. I think the Easter eggs in the lab are the animals that appear in the hologram as Gewn is describing what they were doing with genetics and certain animals not just spiders. Among the assortment was a scorpion and rhino to name a few.

  14. At the oscorp tour scene, gwen pulls up the oscorp tree of life which shows a bunch of animals that they’re testing on. Most of the animals are just normal creatures a lab would test on, but on the left/middle there’s a rhino. Like the classic spidey villain, rhino. And at the end of the movie, after he shoots himself out of the crane, spiderman is swinging between the alley. He passes a bunch of clothes hanging out for dry. There’s this weird cheetah thing that looks an awful lot like something kraven the hunter would wear. I thoroughly looked through the scenes. I may be wrong about kraven, but there’s definitely a reference to rhino at oscorp.

    • Kraven! That’ll be sick!!

  15. Maybe we are looking at the Sinister Six?

    • Rhino (seen on the life tree)
Scorpion (seen on the life tree)
Chameleon (only villain who shares a history with Peter’s parent)
Morbius (his clock tower lair seen apart of one of the skylines)
      Electro (played by Jamie Foxx)
Kraven (cheetah clothes on a roof top)

    • The sequel is too early for that but in the third one, that would be pretty awesome. I may be off though, but didn’t Doc Ock start the Sinister Six, so I think he’d have to be introduced to this Spidey universe although I think the previous sequel is recent enough that it may not be necessary.

      • In the 90s cartoon, Kingpin starts the Sinister Six.

        • They can have it where Oscorp starts the Sinister Six.

  16. Dunno if they’ll kill Gwen. They killed Captain Stacy and I think they’re going a whole different direction now. Which is fine with me. I never did like MJ.

  17. Rhino. I caught the lab easter egg but the only creature i remember seeing in the hologram is a Rhino

  18. Zac Efron carries too much baggage from his High School Musical days. People always associate him with that role. and Garfield played the role really well I wouldn’t want to see anyone else at this point.

  19. What? Same story as Spiderman 2 but with a different villian? LOL

  20. Unless you guys are totally off base in the meaning of the easter eggs, it seems like they’re hinting at a few different villains. I’m wondering if this means the possibility of Spidey fighting the Sinister Six? This would go hand in hand with Spider-Man being a virtuoso at the start of the movie. He’ll have the skill set to fight smaller villains, so maybe the only way for something to be an actual threat will be for him to fight the Sinister Six.

    • +100

  21. Easter Eggs!Okay we will wait.

  22. My wife would have been more inclined to see it if Zac was Peter Parker. Which means her friends would’ve tagged along and talked through the whole thing.

  23. The only thing I remember is Rhino being shown on the Tree of life.. donno about others

  24. I saw this movie 3 times in theaters. There is a ton of Easter Eggs all over the place:

That scene where Gwen was touring students, she was talking about animal splicing. Then she turned on a hologram of the animals they were testing. One of those animals was a Rhino (you know Rhino) and I’ll have to see that scene again because I think I saw a bat. What’s important about a bat? Because in another scene where Spider-Man was web slinging around the city, he got really high up, and at one point, we saw the skyline. Apart of the skyline, a clock tower came into focus for longer than a few seconds. It looked like the clock tower where Morbius (the living vampire) keeps his lab equipment. Remember, Morbius became a vampire because he was spliced with a bat.

Also, In Dr. Connors’ office, posted on the wall is a portrait of a lightning strike. Now in the interview, Web used the word, “electrifying” and I wonder if he put an emphasis on that word. I’d love to see Jamie Foxx as Electro.

However at the end credits scene, I still think it was Chameleon. He is the only villain who shares a history with Peter’s parents and has the ability to sneak in and out of a jail cell like that.

    • Mysterio could also appear/disappear in the cell.

  25. Also as Peter makes his way to the fateful moment that will change his life forever he passes through a lab where four familiar mechanical arms are testing the strength on the Oscorp developed web lines.

  26. Electro has been confirmed for the next villain and will be played by Jamie Foxx

  27. Webb said, at this point he will be pro. I won’t be surprised if now they test him being pro by putting him up against the Sinister Six. Gwen’s father mentioned a sting operations to find out how’s behind a lot of crimes going around. Could this of been a hint toward the Kingpin!?! If you look at all the Easter Eggs in the movie, it spells out the Sinister Six. Kingpin might be in the squeal and he will assemble Rhino, Lizard, Chameleon, Morbius, Electro, and ???? as the Sinister Six. Everyone I said had an Easter Egg in the movie. However I could of missed it, we’re missing someone to have six.

    • It could be Shocker as your 6th. In an alley way, Spider-Man web slings through, you can see yellow pants with a red stripe. Much like Shocker’s pants. Also, Webb said, “He’s an expert, and he’s having a blast..” Shocker is a blaster.

      • Sick! I’m having 2nd thoughts about The Lizard being apart of the Six. As someone said before, they say Kraven’s clothes on a roof top. It’ll be epic to see the Sinister Six consist of Electro, Rhino, Shocker, Chameleon, Morbius, and Kraven.

  28. Hmm hope to see electro in the sequel

  29. I thought I saw a hint towards Sand Man in the movie. I may be wrong, I’ll have to watch this again.
