Well our friends in the Great White North are going to be seeing a lot of military action in the upcoming couple of months. Joe Carnahan, the director that brought us Smokin’ Aces and Narc, should be ready to start a six-week shooting schedule shortly in Vancouver for the upcoming feature film of  The A-Team. As an added bonus, it looks like MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been selected to play the iconic, gold-chain-covered B.A. Baracus.

Mr. “Rampage” joins the already cast Liam Neeson as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith and this summer’s Hangover star, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck. Yet to be announced is the actor chosen to play H.M “Howling Mad” Murdock. We could easily speculate on who has been rumored to play the chopper pilot turned psychiatric patient, but frankly the list has gotten ridiculous and a bit tedious.

The latest person rumored to be B.A.’s little buddy Murdock is Chris Pine. This is the same Chris Pine that is already confirmed to star opposite Denzel Washington in Unstoppable, which just so happens to be filming in Philadelphia right now. So unless that runaway train he is on finally stops in Vancouver, I doubt he will be able to make the film schedule. Good rumor though; too bad it probably won’t pan out.

Of course, this could be just like all the Chris Pine/Green Lantern rumors that floated around the blogosphere leading up to actual casting of Ryan Reynolds. Hey I’ve got an idea, why not just cast Justin Timberlake as Murdock and be done with it? A long, long while back, when The A-Team was just an inkling of a rumor in the Hollywood mill, Jim Carrey was supposed to be playing the titular character – but alas, that didn’t pan out. Earlier this year, Carnahan grabbed the director’s chair and Woody Harrelson was going to wear Murdock’s crazy leather bomber jacket; but that too turned out to go nowhere.

What I’m afraid is going to ultimately happen, just like with the choice of “Rampage” Jackson, is that they will choose a relative unknown for the character and that will most likely turn out awful. Other than having been on TV for MMA fights, Jackson has no acting background whatsoever and we won’t find out how he does for another year or so. I’d be a little less apprehensive if he was coming from a WWE background. At least then we would know he can act (zing)!

I’m not worried about Carnahan’s ability to deliver a summer-worthy movie, but if he doesn’t make a good choice for Murdock and the choice for Baracus turns out to be a bust, then The A-Team could quickly become a movie focused on “Hannibal” and “Faceman.”

"I pity the fool who doesn't portray me well"

What are your thoughts on the choice of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as B.A. Baracus and who do you see playing H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock? (If someone says Ben Affleck I will literally club a baby seal.)

The A-Team has a release date of June 11th, 2010 but seeing as how filming hasn’t started and 25% of the cast hasn’t been selected, I’m going out on a limb and say that will be pushed WAY back.

  4. 1. richard simons
    2. matthew brodrick
    3. the “SHAMWOW” guy
    4. jack black

  5. Bring back Murdock! The REAL one! Dwight Schultz is the only one who can play Howlin Mad!

  6. Definitely not watching this

Rampage is one of the biggest scumbags out there.

  7. Poor baby seal, how can you do that movie blog????

  8. Any word on cameos of Dirk, Dwight & Mr. T himself?
    Murdock options:
    YES Steve Buscemi
    YES Mackenzie Crook
    YES Steven Pasquale

    NO Ben Affleck
    NO Luke or Owen Wilson
    NO Vince Vaughn
    NO Matthew Perry
    NO Adam Sandler

  9. You guys are so lucky I don’t access to a baby seal :) Beside how could I actually do that to such a cute furry creature?

I like the Steve Buscemi idea but isn’t he a bit old for the part now?

  10. @Paul

Yah, I would have to wait until that seal grows up before I can beat it to death… just kidding of course… :-D

  11. Rampage is a tremendous fighter and a true showman. I think he has a lot of potential as an actor and I really hope he gets a shot at it.
Having said that , I thought Rampage ( or his rep ) recently said that he’s definitely NOT going to play BA.
    Misdirection , perhaps ?

How about Kevin Pollock As Murdock?
    Jason Statham ?
    oooooh…….how about Vinnie Jones ?
    no wait………Steve Zahn ??

    and Paul …?
to make amends for almost wandering down an evil destructive path , I think you should adopt a baby seal and name it Ben affleck.

  12. I will literally club a baby seal…. to make a better deal, good UHF reference

  13. At least Rampage has this to fall back on when Rashad knocks him clean out.

  14. UHF is an under appreciated classic.
I love that movie ; best thing Weird Al ever did :)

  15. Here’s an obvious choice,Johnny Knoxville!

  16. Seriously. Really?

  17. I thought Rampage was only a rumor-and a debunked one at that.
BTW, while they don’t share a scene together, Jackson did have a short cameo on The Midnight Meat Train.

    As for Murdock… Chris Evans.

  18. I think quinton “rampage” jackson looks the part for BA Barracus but can he pull it of acting wise?In his defense ,Mr T wasn’t a major thespian himself.I don’t see Chris Pine as Murdock , I see probably Wil Ferrel or Steve Carrell Maybe Steve Zahn ? any comedic actor is good.Remember he’s name is “Howling Mad” Murdock h’s not the capt of the USS Enterprise, he’s a pilot who lives in an insane asylum so there’s a lot of humor in this character.

  19. Just to clarify,Johnny Knoxville as Mad Murdock.

  20. Patrick Warburton. Ever since hearing his Joe Swanson from Family Guy playing Murdoch, I couldn’t help but think how awesome his over-the-top intensity plus his way downplayed physicality would put a hilarious spin on the character.

  21. Sean William Scott*
    Paul Rudd
    Ben Stiller
    Owen Wilson
    Will Ferrel
    Steve Carell
    Rainn Wilson*

ok..I’m just throwing out any comedic names I can think of..
I put the asteriks next to the choices I am serious about..

I liked the choice of Steve Zahn from rastaZen..
    Chris Evans… meh…

I’m just wondering how bad this film is going to be?

By-the-way I hate the choice for BA..absolutely abhor it!! But I’m just an abhorrer anyways..

  22. Ben Affleck…LET THE CLUBBING BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!

  23. How about (drumroll)…GEORGE STRAIT!!! or (drumroll)…Danial Radclif(not!) Seriosly george strait or posibly william H. Macey

  24. becoming less interested all the time…

  25. I still say Brad Pitt.

He played great Crazy in “12 Monkeys”! (Really wasn’t too tightly wrapped in Fight Club either!).

I think Pitt would bring a subtlety to the Crazy that would keep it from being over the top (Jim Carey) and annoying.

  26. I think that if Heath Ledger were alive if would be a great Murdock, remember you want someone in there mid 20′s to early 30′s you dont want someone who is the same age as liam neeson playing Murdock it wouldnt fit

  27. How about Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Murdock?
