Last Saturday Marvel Studios held their annual Comic-Con International panel in San Diego where we met the casts of Ant-Man and The Avengers: Age of Ultron – two films releasing next summer – and were treated to with brief bits of teaser footage. Before the panel began and as the lights went dark in the 6000-person Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center, attendees went crazy, chanting “Marvel” and cheering when anything popped up on the screens.
Marvel has set some hefty precedents with their Comic-Con presentations over the years and while some of us may be a little disappointed that we didn’t learn more on what additional movies are coming from Disney-Marvel over the next few years (there are 7-8 unannounced titles with release dates) last week, Marvel still delivered few crowd-pleasers for the dedicated attendees who waited in line overnight to get into the hall.
And it began with a sizzle reel recap video (up top) of everything that’s come from the studio to date, beginning with 2008’s Iron Man and culminating this weekend in the franchise heading into deep space with the Guardians of the Galaxy and seeing a little bit more of the universe’s biggest, baddest villain: Thanos. As this video began, and we met Avenger after Avenger, the crowd cheered so loudly, the dialogue was barely audible.

With Guardians of the Galaxy hitting theaters today, Marvel has officially released this ‘look back’ to amp up fans a little bit more and even if you’ve seen all of Marvel’s movies multiple times, it’s absolutely worth watching and it sets up the jump into the cosmos nicely at the end with a big intro to Thanos, where you can hear Josh Brolin’s voice for the first time before even seeing Guardians in theaters.
We reported Brolin’s casting as Thanos back in June but Marvel brought him out as a special guest during The Avengers 2 panel during their Comic-Con presentation as well, where the star came out on stage wearing a toy Infinity Gauntlet.
Phase 2 continues this weekend with GOTG and concludes next May with Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. What are your thoughts on the franchise’s first 10 movies and teases of Thanos?
Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio Del Toro as The Collector.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014, The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015, Ant-Man on July 17, 2015, Captain America 3 on May 6 2016, and unannounced films for July 8 2016 and May 5 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on July 28 2017, November 3 2017, May 4 2018, July 6 2018, November 2 2018 and May 3 2019.
