Thanos made his brief debut in the post-credits button in The Avengers and while he represented an unfamiliar and other-worldly figure to most moviegoers, Marvel Comics readers knew the significance of the cameo introduction. Thanos, also known as the Mad Titan, is one of Marvel's all-time most dangerous villains and he returned in a larger role in Guardians of the Galaxy, played by Josh Brolin,

Despite two appearances in Marvel movies over a three-year period though we still know very little about this version of the Mad Titan. With the unveiling of the studio's Phase 3 film plans however, Thanos' role and screen time is only going to increase as he makes his way to Earth and makes his destructive intentions clear.

Thanos' role thus far has been relegated to sitting in a hovering space throne, so we've yet to see him in action, let alone walk around. So, outside of Thanos movie art and some Avengers concept work, fans haven't had a great look at the menacing character's costume and design. This is where Sideshow Collectibles comes in, with a new figure in their Sixth Scale Guardians of the galaxy line. Below are images for the new movie-accurate prototype Thanos figure, part of their Movie Masterpiece Series, which is expected to be available as early as this fall.

Thanos Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys Official Description

Thanos is one of the most infamous Marvel villains in comic book history. His first appearance in The Avengers has already got fans widely discussing the Mad Titan's role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in Guardians of the Galaxy; audiences are finally able to meet him fully when he gives his threatening speech to Ronan.

Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys are very excited to present the highly-anticipated Thanos Sixth Scale Figure from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy!

The movie-accurate Thanos collectible figure is specially crafted based on the appearance of Thanos in the movie, featuring the newly developed helmeted head sculpt, finely sculpted armored body, and Thanos' throne with LED light-up function.

Thanos doesn't seem to be in the cards for an appearance on screen in 2015 given that Marvel's two movie releases for the year are the Earth-set sequel to The Avengers and the final chapter of Phase 2, Ant-Man. Joss Brolin revealed that he knows of his next appearances as Thanos and hinted that it wouldn't be until 2016-17 when he plays the character again. That doesn't mean Thanos isn't somehow teased in this year's films as he continues pulling the strings behind-the-scenes of Phase 3.

After all, it was Avengers writer and director Joss Whedon who introduced the character in the first place and last year he hinted that Thanos could somehow be involved in The Avengers 2 when he said "he's definitely a part of what I've got going on." Thanos creator Jim Starlin, after speaking with Marvel to get compensation for the character's use in the MCU, also revealed that Thanos would appear in The Avengers 2. Of course, Marvel's plans are frequently in a state of flux and we won't know for certain if Thanos appears this year until this summer.

In the meantime, fans of the Marvel cosmic should check out all the images and product details on the Thanos Sixth Scale Figure here for more info. Because this is the full figure and not a bust, Sideshow Collectibles is actually giving fans the best look yet at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Thanos and he's amazingly close to his Marvel Comics design.
