Ever since Thanos’ purple grin first appeared during the mid-credits scene of Marvel’s The Avengers, fans have been anxiously awaiting the day the Mad Titan would go head-to-head with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The casting of Josh Brolin in the role for last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy only further built up excitement for the inevitable confrontation that awaited.

However, despite the significant role Thanos played in the central plot of that film, the character took little direct action, allowing Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) to serve as the primary villain. Of course, that changed during the credits of Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Thanos finally decided to take matters into his own hands. Now the question remains when we’ll see him continue his quest to wield a fully armed (pun intended) Infinity Gauntlet in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.

MTV News caught up with Brolin and asked that very question. Here’s what the Oscar-nominated actor had to say:

“I don’t know which one I’m in [next]. That’s a Kevin Feige question. I know the trajectory of what they’re doing, but I don’t know exactly which one I’m in.”

The fact that Marvel Studios keeps details on upcoming films strictly on a need-to-know basis is no surprise, as keeping actors in the dark on certain elements allows them to have plausible deniability when questions like this one ultimately arise. Another possibility could be that Brolin will appear in a brief one-off scene along the lines of the button scene in Age of Ultron, and he could legitimately not know which film the footage will be attached to. However, with next year’s Captain America: Civil War poised to the bridge the gap here on Earth between the first two Avengers films, it’s entirely possible that we’ll get another tease to the Infinity Gauntlet storyline somewhere in there.

Regardless, Brolin continues to sound very enthusiastic about his ongoing role as one of the most powerful Marvel villains, to the point where he cannot even name a favorite Avenger he hopes to defeat in the films.

“I don’t have a favorite because it’s me against all of them. I think the entirety is what I’m most looking forward to. Each and every one. I’m bringing the wrath.”

If rumors that Infinity War will serve as a vehicle to unite the entire MCU in one epic battle prove true, Thanos will have plenty of scores to settle with the group. After all, both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy have foiled his schemes in separate films. Add in the fact that Loki failed him and the Asgardians’ delivery of the Aether (a confirmed Infinity stone) to The Collector, and it becomes quite apparent that the master plan throughout Phases 1 and 2 of the MCU has been subtly building to Thanos’ showdown with, well, everyone. As far as where he’ll pop up next, he has to at least play a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, right? Only time will tell.
