Sounds like sour grapes to me. I'm not sold on Cheadle as Rhodey as I thought Howard looked more like him. Oh well, we shall see, won't we??
  • I thought Cheadle looked GREAT as Rhodey in that pic we posted.

I didn't really think Howard did all that good a job of acting the part in the first ironman. He made Rhodey out to be a soft-spoken weenie. Now that could of been the direction Fav's wanted but i don't know. My hope is that Cheadle changes that.

I think that it's classy for Howard to express gratitude for Cheadle despite this move. He realizes that the choice to go with Cheadle wasn't Cheadle's, but Marvel's. His sour grapes are for Marvel, but he is still a mature professional about it.

    Tacky.
    The man has no class.
    Dissapointing.

Funny, majority of the articles I've read on the subject all say that Howard was grossly over paid and paid more than Paltrow and Downey put together. That's what you get for letting your ego get in the way.

The guy is a good actor but him talking about ethics and morals is just funny.

I don't know if you guys know, but Howard punched his girlfriend (maybe wife) in the face. If you look it up online, there's an audio of a 911 call. During the call, he busts in the door and attacks her. (I wish I was making this up)

Phew, luckily Howard is no longer War Machine. He doesn't walk like Rhodes, he doesn't talk like Rhodes. He ain't Rhodes, and never will be. He's too soft and he comes across as a pushover.

Hopefully Cheadle will be a better Rhodes, though I'm sure Snipes and Michael Jai White are much better choices.

I don't care who looks more like what, once there's a movie out that's the standard the others should live up to, why recast someone when that same person is still there and ready to go, its not like he sucked at it, he was good. I agree with him, they should stick together, not for higher pay but for loyalty to each other as actors, their contracts, etc.

I disagree. i thought he was mediocre, at best. The worst part of a very, very good movie.

in fact ,this team is stingy!only RDJ was essential!

The thing is, when Iron Man came out I remember most of the criticism being directed at Terrence Howard being a dissatisfying actor. I guess the producers and perhaps even the director himself may not have wanted him back because they weren't impressed by his performance, maybe?

Either way, obviously something went wrong in his case that they didn't even inform him about his dismissal.

Wah wah wah, lol. just kidding...

if howard followed the script and all, i think the Rhodey part was not really emphanized enough for me to say it was not good. Howard did for me exactly what i would have expected to see from Rhodes.
Now, if the character had a better script, i beleive people wouldnt have complained about him and liked his performance.

i do not like 1 bit that they changed him, but i will be happy with cheadle's performance.

I'm glad Don is in and Howard is out.

Personal life has no effect on acting ability, OGB. This is business.

I'm upset that Howard didn't get back into the movie. He was a great Rhodey and I think they had a great chemistry between the characters. I like Cheadle and I can only hope that he does a great job, not being one that can have an effect on the outcome of hollywood decisions.
  • Iron Knight
I liked Howard in the first film, but I honestly think Cheadle can do so much better in Iron Man II.
  • JD5DAD
how much do you want to bet Downey wont be in the 3rd one because you know he is going to want more money and marvel is pulling the old warner brother batman deal remeber how they got rid of keaton
  • Ken J
Isn't he already signed into a contract? Or no? Anyway, if he's not in the 3rd one, Iron Man will start going down the drain. I'm almost sure Marvel will at least do waht they need to do to keep RDJ. But everyone else might become expendable. But the thing is, I also think RDJ is enjoying the role and might want to stick around to finish it.
  • @JD5DAD

I really don't see that happening.

    @Jae Senn
Agree with you, but Cheadle will be great...at least much better than Howard for the role

    @JD5DAD
RDJ and Favreau are Marvel's family know. John will be directing several more of IM films and will be the director of the first Avengers film which, IHMO, is guaranteed to make more money than just about any film ever made and RDJ is signed on for several more films. Both will stay as long as they don't ask for stupid control or rediculious money.
  • Jae Senn
RDJ is not a prima donna. He ain't gonna screw up anything out of greed. Come on, the man's been through hard times but he's a nice person around all those that know him. No way in heck will he suddenly demand for a higher pay and screw up the franchise. He's a consummate artist and a method actor, not a prima donna.
  • Chris
My understanding is Howard got the most money 'cause he was the first one to commit to the movie. If Favreau had problems with his performance, he could have corrected that on the spot with a little....what's that word? Oh yeah, direction. Also, he co-wrote the script so if the character wasn't what he wanted then he only has himself to blame. I was actually surprised they made an Iron Man movie because it's not like he's that commonly known by the average person. As much as I like the fact the technology is finally there to make quality comic book movies no one has really done it up right yet (Dark Knight excluded). But that's DC and I was always a Marvel man.
  • Dude
Cheadle is a great actor. I agree with others though in saying that you just don't drop an actor who obviously did a decent job for nothing. If he did something significant to the decision to drop him, then some lines were obviously crossed. He said he wasn't informed about him not being recast. That seems like an extremely unprofessional move on the part of Marvel Studios. I'm in shock more people are not upset over that.

In any case, it seems to me not hearing an official comment on the issue from Marvel that they weezled their way out of the contract with Howard to "trade up" for Cheadle. That's disappointing to say the least.
  • Ken J
Uh, has it crossed your mind that Howard was LYING about that?? lol
  • alex
the photo is fake of war machine because i seen a photo of iron man in the same back round and same position
