The prehistoric adventures of the Shannon family in Terra Nova have come to a end on Fox, as the network has announced that they will not be renewing the series for a second season. Fortunately, Terra Nova may still continue on another network.
Simply confirming Terra Nova’s nonrenewal late Monday evening, no statement about its cancelation had been released by the network.
Taking to Twitter, series star Jason O’Mara announced the cancelation to fans:

While Terra Nova may have been canceled by Fox, 20th Century TV (the studio that produces the series) is still attempting to bring Terra Nova season 2 to air on another television network, though no negotiations have been announced yet.
Returning to Twitter, O’Mara confirmed the plans to continue Terra Nova on another network.

Premiering in September 2011, Terra Nova was considered a television experiment by the network. With high upfront costs stemming for lofty visual concepts, Terra Nova attempted to bring the beauty of theatrical visual effects to television audiences. With a pilot that reportedly cost $14 million, Terra Nova premiered to 9.2 million viewers. Unfortunately, by the time the first season of Terra Nova came to a close, only 7.2 million viewers tuned in.
And while Terra Nova may have lost its way (and its viewers) along the way, Fox’s president of entertainment Kevin Reily revealed that Terra Nova is actually considered a success for everyone involved, with both the network and studio making money on the project.
Though Terra Nova was a fiscally successful project, it’s unlikely that the series will find a new home on another network – at least on a network that could support the $4 million per episode cost.
Even if the series were able to continue on a new network – which would likely be on cable – the cost of the budget would be cut significantly, thus removing the series’ ability to ever reach those lofty visual goals that it originally had set for itself.
So while Terra Nova could continue on another network, perhaps its best to leave the Shannon family in the land of the lost.

Why would they cancel this show it was so good. I loved Terra Nova I would of loved to see another season because in the last episode it just left us hanging. I hope some other company will pick it up because its worth picking it up cause it has so many fans. Fox always cancels the really good show well lets see what happens if some other tv network will pick it up

Figures Fox would cancel this show. They will probably put another sleazy reality show in its place. We need shows like this. Too bad SyFy doesn’t pick it up, it would find a good home there.

I hope Netflix picks it up, it was a good show. I think Fox cancled it cause to many people had to think about what was going on, the answer was not given to you at the start of the show, and it was not a reality show, so people could not keep up with what was going on with the story line. Me I love the show, cause you have to think and remember what was said, to keep up with it. Its a great show, I hope it comes back some where
this is one of the best shows ever they need to find a way to keep it going. come on spielberg u have plenty of money cant u help keeping this show a float we all miss it. kind of bummed how it ended with a cliff hanger. if u cant keep it a show make it a movie trilogy or something. please figure something out cause i no a lot of people that liked watching it and bummed that it got canceled especialy with the cliff hanger. and if u keep it going i am sure that who ever keeps it going will make money from this show with no problem. please think hard on getting this show back up and running its worth it to millions of fans.
I started watching Terra nova on TV but becuz of my conflicting work schedule and the show times I was un able to finish the Season out… Now finally it’s on Netflix and I can watch it fully…. And now when I search to find out about a season 2, I run into this crap… Come on FOX! Get smart about this, I agree with everyone else here.. Always canceling the good shows..

Bad job on the part of Fox. This show was terrific. Well thought out, entertaining, and was a show that actually required some thought. I’m very disappointed it has been cancelled and I hope someone else picks it up.
This was the best, you did not advertise enough, i didn’t know it was on tv until it was almost over. Terra Nova rates right up there with AVATAR give it a chance !!!!!
If they do not bring it back to tv, they need to make a full Movie. Like they did for Firefly.

It’s funny how they never account for the people who DVR everything because of work schedules! Loved the show, Fox should take off the over produce reality crap!

I had the first season of Terra Nova on my PS3, once i had finished, i ran to my dad’s house to see if i could find the 2nd season online to continue the adventure only to find this! That the series had been cancelled!

They could broadcast this show on Syfy! I think the plot and genre would fit right into the Syfy network. Looking forward to season 2 XD
