The prehistoric adventures of the Shannon family in Terra Nova have come to a end on Fox, as the network has announced that they will not be renewing the series for a second season. Fortunately, Terra Nova may still continue on another network.
Simply confirming Terra Nova’s nonrenewal late Monday evening, no statement about its cancelation had been released by the network.
Taking to Twitter, series star Jason O’Mara announced the cancelation to fans:
Bad news guys, Terra Nova has been cancelled by Fox.
While Terra Nova may have been canceled by Fox, 20th Century TV (the studio that produces the series) is still attempting to bring Terra Nova season 2 to air on another television network, though no negotiations have been announced yet.
Returning to Twitter, O’Mara confirmed the plans to continue Terra Nova on another network.

Premiering in September 2011, Terra Nova was considered a television experiment by the network. With high upfront costs stemming for lofty visual concepts, Terra Nova attempted to bring the beauty of theatrical visual effects to television audiences. With a pilot that reportedly cost $14 million, Terra Nova premiered to 9.2 million viewers. Unfortunately, by the time the first season of Terra Nova came to a close, only 7.2 million viewers tuned in.
And while Terra Nova may have lost its way (and its viewers) along the way, Fox’s president of entertainment Kevin Reily revealed that Terra Nova is actually considered a success for everyone involved, with both the network and studio making money on the project.
Though Terra Nova was a fiscally successful project, it’s unlikely that the series will find a new home on another network – at least on a network that could support the $4 million per episode cost.
Even if the series were able to continue on a new network – which would likely be on cable – the cost of the budget would be cut significantly, thus removing the series’ ability to ever reach those lofty visual goals that it originally had set for itself.
So while Terra Nova could continue on another network, perhaps its best to leave the Shannon family in the land of the lost.

What the hell This has been the first series I’ve whatch on fox since the X Files. What the hell is wrong with this network. Oh don’t tell me. They are now under the same buocratic bull that submerged the other networks and now fox which seamed to be liberated from that crapp is now a slave to it. Say goodbye to everything fox built itself on.
Our only hope is a premium cable channel. Like HBO SHOWTIME. Or others. Then halph the other fans of the show can’t tune in. Shame on you FOX.
I’ll never get hooked on another FOX show again in fear that it will be good. Then they won’t fund it’s survival. Kind of like Terra Nova. Huh! Fox grew with our help. Terra nova is the only program for wich i stay at home.
I aint going anny where until i have seen the next part ,,, after terra nova i am readdy to go out again.
Most of the time our wifes or girlfriends are having a program for wich they stay at home’ but now it was my time so say wait till its over.

It is sad that Fox can’t be trusted to at least give a second season to its Sci-fi series. At least Fringe is coming back. After that I will stay away from Fox
Yeah, another bummer frome the networks. Everytime I start watching a series they end up canceling it, and gee they were making money? I remember when ABC did this with Jericho even though we cried out to keep it going. It was nice to have something different on tv to watch. They never listen to the fans anymore, just the nielson ratings, which mean nothing when it comes to people watching your shows.
Fox has a really bad habbit of cancelling great shows. You would think they’d learn by now. Frankly I don’t see why they would cancel when it was still making money and a decent amount of people were still watching. If they were going t cancel then they shouldn’t have ended the first season with a cliffhanger.
its just typical. time and time again this happens. Victim to the board room not reaping enough profit from something that was ultimately successful. Do they not get that it is hard to get the smash ratings they want from every show now? there are more chanels, variety and more competition than ever before now. They need to re assess their evaluation of what is worth it and what isn’t before they loose all of their viewers entirely.
If they can’t stick to a good idea, and have faith in it then they should just leave the ideas to networks that actually give a s*** about television and not just milking massive profits.
exactly what i was thinking, ive been watching this show from Romania, im a Brit living in RO and me and my girlfriend absolutely loved this show, and we have been totally waiting for the 2nd season to come out
shame fox left a cliffhanger like that, i was totally curious to see what happens in the next season 
Terra Nova was the best show on Fox, I’m really disappointed, not sure if Fox smoked some bad weed before canceling it or they are just a bunch of douches.
That show had everything, good actors, a good story and good special effects, i was really waiting for season 2, but of coooooourse someone have a REALLY better idea to replace it, i’m sure my comment here won’t even be read by Fox, but i’m sure i won’t watch this knew thing they are going to put on Terra Nova’s place in protest for what they are doing!!!
Why would we be surprised that Fox doesn’t want to send this show, it puts faith and hope in peoples hearths. Unlike the owner of Fox does, arghh I hate how the media is being ruled..
I work for a cable company and I agree that fox has been cancelling way to many good shows Terra Nova is very popular and whoever makes these decisions decently doesn’t know there viewers.
whaa, a few weeks ago terra nova started here in the netherlands, i looked forward to every single thursday since then and now it’s not on tv and i see online that it’s canceled?? why would they do that? finally something on tv that’s not crap and they stop making it??? i need to know how it continues but now its sort of impossible… shame on who ever canceled it

What to say about Terra Nova. Terra Nova was a excellent show. I don’t think it got its do’s just like the show Firefly. The special affects, the people made the show great. It was another look at how our future on our plant could come to be. Ya it may cost a lot to make one episode of Terra Nova than to make one episode for a reality show, but witch one is more entertaining. A, the answer is Terra Nova in case you couldn’t die side. Just saying is all. Fox needs to bring Terra Nova back. People don’t really won’t another Firefly resident. Our my be you do. Just saying. Good luck Terra Nova. I’ll miss you Terra Nova.
I am with everyone else I have been waiting and waiting and then waiting some more for Terra Nova to come back on so tonight I though hmmm I will just look it up and WHAM a slap in the face the cancelled the show are you kidding you should have atleast ended it in a way that does not leave you wondering for a year and now we shall wonder forever thanks FOX thanks for nothing
With over 7 million viewers every week, how could they cancel the show? It says in the article that the network considered the show a success, who cancels successful shows??? It makes no sense, i watched (and DVR’d so i could watch again) every episode and always looked forward to watching it. This is one of 3 tv shows I’ve ever followed, the other 2 being Friends and Friday Night Lights… and this was my favorite. I cant believe i only got to enjoy 1 season of this incredible show… rediculous
I really enjoyed Terra Nova last season and I hope they find another network to broadcast it on. It was really different from all the other shows on TV and I love variety. Please bring the show back!!!!
Sad to see this one cancelled, I really liked the show. Not much on Fox that I watch, but they had me for an hour weekly with Terra Nova. I agree with everyone on this post. With 7 million viewers, who thought it was a smart move to cancel ?

Tera Nova was my favorite new show last season. I”ve been looking forward to a second season for months! If Fox isn’t smart enough to bring the show back, there has to be several others who actually know what they are doing! I’ll be waiting to see who steps up and does the right thing!
