terminator salvation Terminator Salvation Rated PG 13 or R?

Remember a while back when Warner Brothers confirmed that Terminator Salvation would be a PG-13 rated film? Well, it appears that might not be the case after all.

While talking up the production and showing footage today, director McG revealed:

“We put the picture first at all times. If it’s an R-rated picture, it’s an R-rated picture and that’s that.”

Personally, the whole issue with the film’s rating was never that big of a deal to me. I remember this time last year, folks were whining over Live Free or Die Hard not be R-rated. And yet that film still delivered the good and surprised a lot of people.

That said, I don’t buy this talk from McG in the slightest.

As it stands, this is the only tentpole Warner Brothers has for next summer and it’s going up directly against Fox’s Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian on Memorial Day weekend. [I have to chime in here and say I disagree on this point. I was at the panel and saw the footage and tone of the film - sure looks like an R-rating to me and that the studio will cave on this point. - Vic]

Not to mention, they’re spending well over $200 million. So they need to make sure as many people will be able to see this as possible.

Terminator Salvation will be released in theatres on May 22, 2009.

  1. 200 mil for this??
So much for the New Mexico tax breaks…

Well I hope its R rated at least sheesh. Little kids shouldn’t be watching this anyway.

  2. $200 million seems absurd to me, transformers was 150. I wonder how much Bale will be paid, heh.

In any case, I think this movie needs to be R to be a high-rated film and be a huge success in the years to come (On DVD and DVD re-releases, etc.) I mean, this movie is supposed to be absolutely brutal and to make it feel that way it needs to be R.

Terminator 2 was rated R and how much did it make?

  3. I”M SO GLAD it’s gonna be rated R!!! This should be a wake up call to FOX that pandering to the “kiddies” is useless. Now only if they make Batman 3 rated R than I will be one happy SOB!!!

  4. Just because its Rated R, dosnt mean its gonna be any good… ;-)
