Terminator Salvation Rated-R Director’s Cut On The Way

Will an R-rated version of Terminator Salvation make it any better?

Terminator Salvation

For those of you who were upset that Terminator Salvation wasn’t R-Rated, you can now rest easy: a Rated-R version of the film is said to be coming to DVD and Blu-ray soon.

There was quite a bit of back and forth before Terminator Salvation came out about it being PG-13 instead of R-Rated, with some people being extremely upset that it wasn’t a hardcore action movie like the first two were, while others didn’t think the PG-13 rating was an issue. The Director’s Cut of the Terminator Salvation has been labelled by the MPAA as “R” for “some violence,” and, “brief nudity,” with the latter probably being the inclusion of a reported scene of star Moon Bloodgood removing her top that wasn’t included in the theatrical version.

Normally I would be really psyched about a movie like Terminator Salvation getting a more explicit rating that allows some of the stronger violence to be shown on-screen, but in this case, does the label the MPAA tagged T4 with really sound like much of an R-Rated movie? “Some violence and brief nudity,” doesn’t sound all that extreme, and certainly doesn’t sound like much of a step up from the theatrical version.

In fact, take a look at the MPAA’s website, which shows the ratings of other Terminator movies, as well as the theatrical version of Salvation.

Interesting…

Terminator Salvation R-Rating MPAA

I’m someone who had a fair bit of fun with Terminator Salvation, even if it was a disappointment compared to the greatness the series achieved under James Cameron in the past, as well as how awesome the trailer made it look. I didn’t have a problem with the lack of “hardcore” violence – although I imagine that was a nerve that was not only touched but crushed for some viewers. By the sounds of it, I don’t think this DVD/Blu-ray version will be drastically different to the one we saw in theaters, and yet the “Director’s Cut” label will most likely snag the money of those who’re hoping for something a bit more full-on than the theatrical version.

Only time will tell…

What do you think about the Director’s Cut of the fourth Terminator getting an R-Rating? Does it sound to you like it will be that much different from the theatrical version?

The Director’s Cut of Terminator Salvation is apparently going to be released on DVD and Blu-ray sometime soon. Screen Rant will keep you posted on when.

  1. I’ll get it. I actually thought it wasn’t bad.
Not great and certainly not what we all hoped it would be.

But how often does that happen? (Matrix sequels anyone? We all have those in our collection)

  2. I loved Matrix 1, but 2 and 3 were pretty crappy in my opinion. Yes Greenknight, it’s because I’m too dense to understand it, lol. It’s just my opinion, leave me alone. :-P I know a lot of people liked them, don’t be insulted, just my opinion!

Now I feel paranoid, like we can’t say we dislike something or isn’t interested in something without someone freaking out about it, geez…

  3. I could actually care less about the blood and boods(I can go online for that), but I’m defintely buying this on Blu-Ray, and hopefully they put Bale’s tantrum on the “special features” section.

  4. I can’t stop laughing at you to tell me to grow up Ken when your being the most childish one on here by telling me how to pronounce words. That’s the most childish thing I’ve seen on these boards. That’s saying something.

  5. LOL sorry Daniel, when you fail to recognize something as simple as personal preferences in movie genres, it’s hard for me not to mock it. If I could have typed that in a font resembling it being written in crayon, I would have. :-D

I personally think it’s childish to not recognize what personal preference is and to get antagonistic when someone doesn’t like the same things as you do. But that’s just me being silly again… :-P

  6. @Matt, I think if they did that, there will be a lawsuit on their hands, lol.

  7. I love how you act like what you did wasn’t at all childish or antagonistic. What you did was far worse than what I did. You just turned the burner up on it.

My point was mostly two things. You refuse to watch The Wrestler. Not that you saw it and didn’t like it which wouldn’t be a big deal but you simply refuse to watch it. Also I was mostly teasing because they way you worded it made it sound like good movies are not your type.

“sure it’s a good movie, that’s what I hear, but not my type of movie.”

It was less about being antagonistic and more about making a joke about your wording.

  8. 1st. I didn’t refuse to watch it, he said to go get the DVD, and the discussion is about buying the T4 DVD just for the nudity, I’m saying I’m not going to buy the DVD. If someone was to rent it, I would watch it. But I’m not going to go out and buy the DVD, because even if it’s a great sports drama or whatever it belongs to, it’s still not something I would watch over and over again because I’m not into that genre, I might still enjoy watching it once though. There are plenty of dramas that I thought were good, but you won’t find most of them on my DVD shelf, because the only movies I tend to watch more than once are action movies and SOME comedies.

2nd. Even IF I’m refusing to watch it, I’M ALLOWED TO! This is a free country isn’t it? Why am I not allowed to like or dislike something for my own reasons? It doesn’t matter how dumb YOU think it is, because it’s not you, it’s me. Do I tell you what movies you need to like or need to see, and if you don’t, and fail to provide a reason that I approve of, I have to be antagonistic?? :-D

LOL, such simple concepts, I feel awkward to explain it with a straight face…

  9. Anyway, if that was a joke on the wording, good thing you have a real job huh? :-D

Don’t worry, same goes for me, half the time I try to make a joke, I end up having to explain it, lol. Like they say, if you have to explain it…

  10. Any word if theres gonna be a 5th Terminator film? I mean are they waiting to see how well dvd/blu-ray sales go? I thought Salvation was a decent film that lives up to the first two films. Its the 2nd time Bale had someone else steal the show from him, lol. I actually hope they bring back Sam Worthington somehow.

  11. @chrisj

I heard there are problems right now within the studio or something that is preventing them from moving forward with the script. Not sure who is to blame but I heard it may not happen for a long time if at all.

I was also hoping they would bring back Sam somehow. If he’s a machine I’m sure they could find a way. If they’re smart they will bring him back but he may not want to after the disaster that was TS.

  12. Big financial/legal troubles hindering Terminator 5. I’m sure they’d be resolved a lot more quickly if Terminator 4 had made a billion dollars. 8)

    Vic

  13. I read somewhere how they’re gonna see how well dvd/blu-ray sales go. They sound like theres a good chance of Terminator 5 being made but also sounded like it will be delayed longer. I hope there wont be a 13 yr or 6 yr old gap in between sequels.

  14. lol 790 on your first comment

As for this DVD, Rated R and deleted scenes won’t change the fail of a story. Unless it’s a remake of Terminator 4…

How has it gotten to the point where many folks don’t want certain movies to be made anymore. Man, I really dislike Terminator 3 and 4.

  15. As far as making another sequel….well if McG goes with his plan to send HKs back in time, then I’m just gonna skip the film all together.

  16. Yeah that’s the dumbest idea in the history of dumb ideas!

  17. THeres word that Shwarzenegger has been approached about buying the rights to the Terminator franchise.

  18. This franchise needs to be Terminated.

I just hope the resistance doesn’t send back a protector for Mcg.

  19. I agree with you there.

  20. 790
haha good one! McG should be terminated not the franchise.

  21. @ Matt Keith
Who’s been sayin Arnold has been approached about buying the rights of the franchise? why terminate the franchise over one film that wasnt that bad? Dont tell me you wanna reboot another classic Franchise cause they’re hasnt been that much success. I have to ask what it was that all of you hated so much about Terminator Salvation? Don’t you all think you’re jumpin to conclusions?

  22. What was wrong with Terminator Salvation just the entire script, direction, casting and script.

The film should have centered on the last hours of Skynet with the finale of Connor sending back the protectors.

You want to start a trilogy, do it after that takes place!!!
    Mc dummy!!!

  23. Daily Express

Theres a link on this article a friend of mine posted up: http://www.thinkmcflythink.com/

If it doesn’t take you to there then just go to the article on that site titled: Could Arnold Own Termintor Rights?
There will be a link in that post that will take you to the atritcle on The Daily Express.

It should be “terminated” b/c it SHOULD HAVE ended with T2. That film summed up the story nicely enough to where we didn’t need anymore films. And I don’t hate T4. In fact I really enjoyed to the point where I can’t wait to get it on Blu-Ray. It wasn’t the greatest film, but it was enjoyable.

  24. @ 790
I saw nothin wrong with the script. Judgment day happend, several years later we see the aftermath. They havnt gottin to the dar days yet. and John sending back those protectors etc. probly wont happen till the last film which makes sense. they still havnt developed the time travel equipment, laser guns as seen in previous film’s future war sequences. Think of it as Star Wars Episodes 1-3. Its all about how they got to that point of Skynet sending the first terminator back in time to prevent John from being born and Reese grow up to the soldier who will be sent.

  25. Chrisj, if you get some time read the reviews on Terminator Salvation, (maybe somebody can get a link up) all my view points on that script are pretty much discussed ad nauseum. Also check the Terminator Salvation “Spoilers Discussion”. :-)
A lot of people ripped it a new endo. 8-O

  26. I agree with 790. There were alot of plot holes in that film, but it didn’t bother me b/c I remembered to turn my brain off while watching.

  27. Hey Chrisj,

That article on The Daily Express also notes that neither Arnold or Bale have been paid for their involvement in the film yet.

  28. @ Matt Keith
I noticed James Cameron being mentioned aswell, Are they hoping Arnold and James Cameron would return to involvement of the franchise? Name the plot holes to me if you could.

  29. If “The Harvester” was around the gas station wouldn’t they have heard it coming? Didn’t you hear how much noise the machine was making? If the “Mototerminator” could make decisions in milisecends(as shown in the chase scene), how come it couldn’t detect the wire that took it down? Was it listening to Guns and Roses song? Is Skynet a fan of them?
