Terminator Salvation Rated-R Director’s Cut On The Way
Aug 27, 2009 by Ross MillerWill an R-rated version of Terminator Salvation make it any better?

For those of you who were upset that Terminator Salvation wasn’t R-Rated, you can now rest easy: a Rated-R version of the film is said to be coming to DVD and Blu-ray soon.
There was quite a bit of back and forth before Terminator Salvation came out about it being PG-13 instead of R-Rated, with some people being extremely upset that it wasn’t a hardcore action movie like the first two were, while others didn’t think the PG-13 rating was an issue. The Director’s Cut of the Terminator Salvation has been labelled by the MPAA as “R” for “some violence,” and, “brief nudity,” with the latter probably being the inclusion of a reported scene of star Moon Bloodgood removing her top that wasn’t included in the theatrical version.
Normally I would be really psyched about a movie like Terminator Salvation getting a more explicit rating that allows some of the stronger violence to be shown on-screen, but in this case, does the label the MPAA tagged T4 with really sound like much of an R-Rated movie? “Some violence and brief nudity,” doesn’t sound all that extreme, and certainly doesn’t sound like much of a step up from the theatrical version.
In fact, take a look at the MPAA’s website, which shows the ratings of other Terminator movies, as well as the theatrical version of Salvation.
Interesting…

I’m someone who had a fair bit of fun with Terminator Salvation, even if it was a disappointment compared to the greatness the series achieved under James Cameron in the past, as well as how awesome the trailer made it look. I didn’t have a problem with the lack of “hardcore” violence – although I imagine that was a nerve that was not only touched but crushed for some viewers. By the sounds of it, I don’t think this DVD/Blu-ray version will be drastically different to the one we saw in theaters, and yet the “Director’s Cut” label will most likely snag the money of those who’re hoping for something a bit more full-on than the theatrical version.
Only time will tell…
What do you think about the Director’s Cut of the fourth Terminator getting an R-Rating? Does it sound to you like it will be that much different from the theatrical version?
The Director’s Cut of Terminator Salvation is apparently going to be released on DVD and Blu-ray sometime soon. Screen Rant will keep you posted on when.
Around the web:

So is it two cuts one directors cut, one not?
Sometime Soon? Come on, When? Anyway I can’t wait for this I’ve always enjoyed the director’s cut of films more than the original cut.
Yeah, Bloodgood taking her top off and one person getting their heart ripped out. Sure, that makes up for the theatrical mess.
Hey, my thingy didn’t show up.
Probably wont make much of a difference. I actually liked the film and thought that they did a pretty good job with it and I know that many people would disagree with that. I also enjoyed T3 and many people didnt like that one either. I dont really think that the brief nudity and some added gore will change what the film is in the end. This will only be a plus for people under 18 that crave and long for this kind of stuff
DRAT! The less than and greater than signs, by themselves, seems to not show up. Let’s see:
Nope, they don’t.
@Matt Keith,
The actual date of release for the DVD/Blu-ray isn’t known yet. Hence the “sometime soon”
Ross,
Yeah. I know. I was only joking.
“Hey, my thingy didn’t show up.”
Sound like a personal problem John.
Didn’t get the chance to see this in the theater so, despite all the bad pub, I’m still looking forward to seeing it.
@INK
Well, that’s better than “It sounds like a genetics problem”.
Yes, I did go there!
Moon taking her top off = R rating. The MPAA’s usually not fond of any type of nudity, so I don’t expect a very different (and better) cut of the movie.
I can’t believe I look forward to this!
Why don’t they call it the “Mcg cut?” Isn’t he proud of the great job he did?
Supposedly the defeated scenes will take up over 40 min. Oh I mean deleted.
Haahaahaaa,,,
I’m going to pick this up when I see it for $2.99 in the used bin.
Great work Mcg, !!!
Just an amazing film !!! Whatever.
Moon Bloodgood’s goods= worth it. Geez, I’ve been waiting for this since Snow Dogs.
Oh, I’m also interested to see if they can work any of Bale’s meltdown into the director’s cut. What better way to catch the realism of a man on the edge than just turning a camera on that guy.
So two crap scenes and its a director’s cut. Wow. Guess this will be strictly a rental unless there are extra goodies.
Ok, so, any of you chickens going to admit that you’re going to get it to see the “brief nudity” part?? Geez… I know I am… lol (well, unless a good enough rip of that scene shows up on the internet, lol)
Seriously though, I wouldn’t mind seeing what the extra scenes will be, just out of curiosity, not sure if it’ll be worth my money or not though, we’ll see.
Yep. I’m getting it solely for the moon bloodgood topless in the rain scene.
Not afraid to admit it.
Yep, I think McG is doing this on purpose. So many movies have an “unrated” or “Rated R” version which just means someone drops the f-bomb or there were scenes not rated by the rating committee but is actually nothing that would have pushed the rating. McG is actually promising boobs we have not seen before… Damn he’s good, DVD sales will do better than movie ticket sales, lol.
You clowns ever hear of Porno,,, all your boob fantasies await…
Real classy, buying this for 2 seconds of boobs,,, this film could have full frontal and I wouldn’t give a crap.
Most porn stars are not that attractive…
I’m always curious to see how every cute actress looks naked. I don’t know why…
There are some that just refuses to do any nude scenes, Marisa Tomei was one of them, her only “nude scene” before was using a body double, and now she has one but she’s with Philip Seymour Hoffman, WTF????? Great way to ruin it…
Well you better run out and rent/buy/download/bootleg/borrow from a friend, “The Wrester” Ken cause Torme shows her stuff.
Forget that it was a great film, “there’s boobs in it!”.
Pathetic,,,,,
I’m sure somewhere deep inside I care about how you judge me. Maybe one day I’ll find that inner level of me…
But nah, not too interested in The Wrestler, sure it’s a good movie, that’s what I hear, but not my type of movie.
But about T4, even though I already said that I probably won’t really buy T4, I don’t mind playing along if it makes you think you’re actually insulting me…
Your “witty” retorts are cliche at best Ken. I realize you thrive on them but please not every comment is about you…
Just pointing out that if your really into breasts check out “the Wrester.”
She’s even got them pierced if that’s what your into,,,
So Ken Good movies aren’t your type of movies? That clears up alot.
Anyway who cares. Seriously like the nudity and extra violence is gonna make the film better. While T4 was a let down I still enjoyed it, but no matter how crappy or good it was some extra blood and nudity does not make a film better. In fact it place almost no role what so ever in the quality of the film. I realize for some Tarrentino fan’s that might come as a shock to hear, but it’s the truth. What ever happen to enjoying story and character development? Is the onlything that matters any more blood violence and nudity?
Uh, I think I was talking about the genre, I don’t want to overheat your brain Daniel, but movies are separated into something called “genres” pronounced “jawn-ruhs” which are like categories for movies. Some people prefer some categories over other categories. This is not a bad thing, or a prejudice (pronounced pre-joo-diss), but is just personal preference. So a good romantic comedy is still a romantic comedy, so someone who doesn’t happen to like romantic comedies, might not like that movie, despite it being a good movie.
LOL Daniel, just messing with you.
But seriously, are we all required by some unwritten law to like every movie and have a written reason why we’re not interested in them in order to say we’re not? If someone said they’re not really into action-scifi and doesn’t like T2, even though T2 is my favorite movie, will I give them a smartass remark about them not liking it? Come on, grow up, I never said I thought it was stupid or that it was a bad movie, just that I’m not too interested in a movie about an old wrestler trying to get with his daughter or whatever the movie is about… Sue me, geez, lol. I’m allowed to not be interested in it, just like you are allowed to like some of the crappy movies you like, geez, lol.
Daniel,,,there’s supposed to be over 40 min of deleted scenes in the Terminator Salvation dvd/BR. (According to my sources) this was all the stuff they filmed before the producers decided to bring Bale on board and rewrite the script.
(Never works btw!)
Also only a few additional min will be in the Mcg cut.
Keep in mind this was scheduled for a November 10th release but its been pulled out of the scheduling. I’m wondering at this point of the legal conflictions are going to postpone the dvd release. It could happen…
