Terminator Salvation Details; Schwarzenegger Cameo In Doubt

terminator salvation2 Terminator Salvation Details; Schwarzenegger Cameo In DoubtWith Terminator Salvation mere weeks away, it seems Arnold Schwarzenegger’s involvement in the film is still far from certain. Despite numerous reports that Schwarzenegger would return in his signature role of the T-800 (for a cameo) it now looks like Schwarzenegger might not be back after all.

Director McG spoke with MTV about the star’s involvement in the film and he also gave away a few tidbits about the plot of the film. Meanwhile, Moviehole has some news on where (and how) Schwarzenegger would be integrated into the film.

When speaking to MTV about Schwarzenegger’s participation in the film, McG said:

“Today is April 10th, I’m doing this interview on April 10th and we don’t know if Schwarzenegger is in the movie or not; it’s not clear. I can say that.”

With regards to the plot of the action epic, the Charlie’s Angels director said:

“This film is largely about Skynet collecting human tissue in the interest of creating lifelike tissue for the T-800, which is the Schwarzenegger character, and if you think about it, we had to go through a lot of lab rats to get to the polio vaccine. Skynet has to go through a lot of human beings to get to that realistic T-800. Kyle Reese always talks about the T-600 being easy to recognize – a rubber skin, prosthetic look. We’ve got two T-600s in the film, but it’s (about)the coming of the T-800, which represents lifelike human flesh being grown in order to get to that level of proficiency.

It’s a complicated, delicate balancing act as of now. The jury is still out.”

Moviehole believes that the above-mentioned jury is “ILM” and that the main problem is that the special effects company is having difficulty superimposing Schwarzenegger’s visage onto the body of body-builder and Schwarzenegger look-alike, Roland Kickinger.

With regards to where Arnold Schwarzenegger would appear in the film, Moviehole has the following scoop:

“It’s a fight sequence in an industrial setting involving, of course, a naked T-800 (who we see mostly from behind -probably because they don’t want anyone to see that it isn’t Arnold in the part) and John Connor, going at it. It’s very clear that the character is supposed to be Arnold’s from the first-film, but Kickinger’s, er, back and behind, is billed.”

The appearance of Schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation lies in the struggle between man and machine. Pretty ironic.

Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington opens on May 21st.

  1. Terry Crews told MTV that Arnold aka THE KING is going to have a cameo in Salvation. At this point, I would believe Crews considering he is one of Arnold’s boys and at this point for McG it is for promotional value.

  2. Well,I will accept the word of the director at theis point.
Even if he does show up, it doesnt sound like more then a CGI insertion of Arnolds image to me .
This isnt the T-800 as the main Terminator in the film .
    That we KNOW.

  3. I don’t think McG wants to add Arnold in at this point but is trying because of the studio or something. He said April 10th twice. Doesn’t that tell you that it’s too close to release and they are still trying to make this happen but it’s difficult. He doesn’t want this to happen.

  4. well, McG goes out in public and says “Arnold’s not in it”/”Tried, scheduling conflicts”/”Couldn’t get Schwarzenegger” and all that. Then, when we got to watch Salvation keeping that in mind, when the pivotal scene arrives with Connor entering skynet and there is the shot of the brand new T-800 model WITH Arnold’s likeness we all will be “Ah, McG said Arnold was not in this–you got me, ha-ha.”
    McG is doing his job.

  5. Its too bad the McG doesn’t have faith in Roland,,, he looks just like Arnold in T1.

  6. SK47,
Trek fans said the same thing when JJ Abrams swore up and down
that Shatner wasnt in the new new film.
    MANY have seen it now,
    Guess what ?
Sometimes Directors tell us the the truth while promoting their films.

  7. Gary–
True, but again, Arnold’s bud Terry Crews has stated that Arnold has a cameo in Salvation. Plus, there were reports that Arnold visited the set of Salvation, there is even a video with him talking to Bale. One day you got McG’s people saying Arnold has a cameo, then the other day they are saying he is not in, etc.
So you are getting conflicting reports on both sides.

Whereas with Star Trek, everyone outside of JJ have stated that Shatner was not in Trek right? Correct? Didn’t Nimoy, Pine, and the rest state that Shatner was not in Trek, even Shatner himself has said it. So in this case, there was always the report that Shatner was not going to be in Star Trek.

    Got two different scenarios here.

  8. Terry could be talking about the same thing McG is trying to set up.
    as for set visits ,
Tom cruse visited the Trek film several times.
    It was a VISIT !
set visits often lead to rumors .
Arnold Mentioned he has seen footage that could have been when he visited the set .
by the way ,He stopped short of saying he liked the footage.
It was lukewarm support at best.
Show me the footage of Arnolds cameo/CGI insertion,
    And I will believe it.

  9. Quote from Terry Crews At MTV when asked if Arnolds In the film ‘Thats it and so am I”
    “thats it”?
His FIrst response was ” a lot of people are are going to be in Terminator Salvation
    Its going to be big.”
people dont seem to want focus on the first part of Terrys answer.
Probably because it was too vague.
Instead, they focus on two words.
    “thats it “.
    not exactly rock solid confirmation.

  10. It is time to upgrade the software. Roland is the new version 5.0. A realistic move for future Terminator Salvation and future films.

  11. 790, I don’t think it’s a matter of faith, it’s just that it is more like a treat for the fans of the originals, not really for the story. Like Lou Ferrigno being in the Edward Norton Incredible Hulk. The role wasn’t even important, but it was simply a treat for the fans. I’m sure if Bill Bixby was alive they would have had a cameo for him as well.

Like Linda Hamilton’s voice-over. I’m sure they could have had Christian Bale do the VO or simply not have it, but it’s a treat for the fans.

  12. Well I see your point Ken, but like Shatner in Star Trek Arnold is too old.

There spending all this money on CGI and Roland looks just like a young Arnold.

(IMO) its more of a name recognition and adds shock value to the film…

Let’s face it if the film sucks Arnolds not going to want to do it. I think that’s the real story here…

Arnolds not very popular our here in California, at least to some ppl…
He sucks as Governor. Having him in the film might even be a bad idea. ???

Give Roland the shot at becoming a star,
    Operation Charlies Angels director. :-)

  13. I agree that Arnold is a bad politician, but not for the same reason you might think so…

  14. Ken J,
Actually Lou Ferrigno was in BOTH Hulk adaptations.
    But I see your point.
Just a stickler for Detail am I!
Now I am talking like Yoda!

  15. Haha Gary, but you know, Arnold could have been in the first Hulk and I wouldn’t have known. After the hulk dogs, hulk changing size everytime the camera leaves him and comes back, and hulk crying, I think I stopped paying attention to save my brain the anguish…

  16. Gary, we’ll just have to wait and see if McG was telling the truth of duping us for a surprise on-screen.

Personally, I would prefer if Arnold was not in Salvation and they just reveal the T-800 exo-skeleton. What Arnold said before of him making a cameo being too misleading makes sense.

  17. I hope you meant endo-skeleton, they are not insects, lol. :-D

  18. dude, whatever man, you know what I mean. :)

Cybernetic Organism, Living Tissue over Metal Endo-Skeleton. Cyberdine-Systems-Model 1O1.

Looking for that in the T2 quotes but while reading over them, Cameron was a smart M’Fer! Especially the part where Skynet limits the Terminator’s learning CPU so that Skynet does not want it thinking for themselves. Smart stuff.

  19. Well, his brother is an actual engineer and he and his brother works together on a lot of these things, so Cameron ends up really designing usable things for his movies. Don’t be surprised if super human like robots are built one day and they use Cameron’s blueprints for the Terminator endo-skeleton to get all of the movements and joints correct. If you look closely at the design it does look like it covers all of a real human’s natural range of motion… Pretty scary stuff…

  20. Yeah man, I’ve been telling my circle, we gotta find our John Connor quick and put some cybernetic attachments to Arnold so that he can save us.

But back to Cameron, yeah I know about that part but thinking back then, 1990, to come up with ideas such as what I mentioned about Skynet not wanting the Terminator units to think, then Ronald D. Moore pulls off that same concept with BSG and the Centurions. T2 is awesome mang…honestly, if you could pick on film to best represent a decade, being the 90s, it would have to be Terminator 2.

Now all we need is a T-L-2! Come on Mr. Cameron, True Lies 2!!!
“There IS no us, you psychopathic b****.”

  21. “Ask me a question I would normally lie to”
    “Are we going to die?”
    “Yep” (while nodding slowly)

LOL, that, and like every other line from that movie, got me laughing my butt off.

  22. Oh no, let’s not start the True Lies quote-athon, haha, that happens everytime it is brought up! :-D

  23. Truesay, Truesay. What always makes me laugh and mark out, Bill Paxton’s lines when he is describing Jamie Lee to Arnold in the test drive.

“She can be so hot when she wants to, she’s got a killer body…”
    “What about their husbands?”
“Dickless! Lets face it, if they were taking care of business, I’d be out of business.”

  24. What’s a terminator movie without Arnold. He made those films and deserves to be in the new one.
