Two days ago, Screen Rant reported on one of the newest TV Spots for Terminator Salvation. That commercial showed off the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s face appeared in the movie in a short scene as the T-800 killing machine.
Why is that significant?
Well, my thoughts were that the folks behind the movie were getting desperate to have people come see the movie in theaters now that it has been out for several weeks in North America and had not lived up even close to where they expected it to be in terms of box office numbers. What does that mean for its potential sequel?

The film had received mostly negative reviews from critics everywhere, the worst out of the franchise. Its opening weekend was weak, coming second to the Night at the Museum sequel and not even coming close to other May openers such as Star Trek, Wolverine and Pixar’s Up. Since then, it dropped off significantly and it continues to do so with big movies opening weekly during the busy summer season. This is especially bad since they went for the PG-13 rating on the film to open it up to the younger movie-going audiences.
With poor reception and poor numbers, the $200 million production budget no longer seems like a good investment. Worse, the franchise is no longer as strong as once thought. Is it the brand name that’s not selling as much? Or could it be that Terminator needs the Governator as the lead?
McG’s Terminator Salvation was supposed to be one of the biggest movies of the year and more than that, it was supposed to be the start of a whole new trilogy of films. Leading up to the release of this fourth installment, there was plenty of talk of ideas for the sequel to Salvation, including having Robert Patrick back for a role in it and everything looked great.
Now, not so much. Will there even be a sequel to Salvation? If there is, will the same creative team be there to make it? Will they pay Christian Bale a ton of money to do it and will McG again direct?
Continue to Page 2 for more on this and and where the sequel will take place…

No worries 790. I think it was Variety but I’ll have to look it up when I get home. I’ll find it for you. And it was before the ending leaked I believe, long before actually.
@ Voice of Reason
Do you know anything so far whether or not theres gonna be a Terminator 5?
@chris j
I haven’t heard anything yet but the movie barely made money at the box office. If they do a fifth movie it’s a few years away and probably won’t include McG or bale.
Additional,,,
^
In (Terminator Salvation) They were going to cover how the time machine was being developed by skynet. It was some kind of living computer that used Marcus type technology. They were also going to show Skynet using the captured humans to test out memory uploading. (All cut out for Bale)
Also on the next film, I’ve heard that some of it will take place in London. (Who knows what time) but it apears that the leaked time traveling HK’s may be true….

Last rumor buzz, Mcg doesn’t want to continue but he’s under contract for the next 2 films. Time will tell Terminator’s future.
sorry but that’s BS.
Whats BS Mike? I think people these days cant just sit down and enjoy a movie anymore. They do too much thinkin about how this or that film lives up the previous films before it. I thought Terminator Salvation lived up to the first two films pretty well. Not 100% but any movie will have its goofs. After seeing it, i hope Sam Worthington will return as the same character. As for Terminator 5, i know they’d have to explain about time travel equipment being used but id hate to see any people or machines goin back in time again. Does anyone know if Dr. Serena Kogan was supposed to be a machine? because i a saw a pic of her face with flesh exposing metal etc. I understood we saw what SKYNET was when Marcus is lookin up his past etc.
chrisj I sat down the other day and watched “Moon” loved it… So there goes that theory.
Also yes Dr. Serena Kogan had more scenes in the film but they were cut. She also plays a significant role in the sequels. If they stick to the original trilogy outline.
(What I was told)
@790
Do you know if Helana Bonham carter will reprise her role if any sequels are to be made? I thought she did a great job. Moon? Do you mean Moon Bloodgood? she did a great job herself.
McG not wanting to come back but Warners holding him to a contract. If anything, it’s the opposite. Warners’ first move with going ahead with T5 is to get rid of McG. He needs the job more than they need him, which explains why he was already pitching T5 in the public before Salvation even came out, he’s already vying for the gig.
Chrisj, Helen was the Cancer scientist right?, I don’t know if she will be back but I was told her skynet character was written into the trilogy, and that she’s instramental in developing the time machine.
Mike, Mcg is already working on several other projects including “20.000 Leagues Under the Sea” he’s got work.
The trilogy was written before Bale came on board and it included the London stuff. He’s really just hinting what he already knows,,,
If I find out anything else I’ll update you guys.
A script for T5 and T6 don’t yet exist. The films could’ve been outlined but the writers haven’t even been hired to script ‘em yet. McG has several projects in development, but that’s not to say that he has turned down T5.
There is no script yet for any more terminator movies. And McG is toast.
There was a treatment for the overall Terminator trilogy but that is subject to change at this point.
Terminator 5 is in preproduction.
Terminator Salvation dvd will have over 40 min of deleated scenes.
McG’s brainstorming the plot of 5 and you’re saying there’s already a treatment for 5 and 6? Who are the writers? Where are you getting this? Your imagination?
Read what I wrote Mike. There was a treatment writen before Bale came along.
Mike, its all over the net and despite the amount of money Terminator Salvation made, another terminator film still has a good chance of being made. Let’s not forget how they also count how much money comes in due to DVD and Blu-ray sales when its available. From what i read on IMDB, most likely we’ll see whatever thats been cut out put back in or just be left as deleted scenes.
@790
you probably already knew this but I just found out that they offered Josh brolin the part of Marcus wright after bale decided to go with John Connor. But wisely brolin turned it down.
@ Voice of Reason
I read that too. Im glad Brolin didnt cause i never thought he was right for the part anyways. I was surprised they approached Bale for John Connor. I had a good feeling Bale would be a good pick. Voice, between Claire Danes and Bryce Dallas Howard, who did you think played a better Kate brewster? I know others will disagree with me but my vote goes to Bryce Howard.
@chris j
yeah i didn’t like claire danes that much but bryce didn’t get nearly as much screen time. i liked bryce better but wish we would have seen more of her and developed the character somewhat. that was one of the problems i had with the movie was a lot of the characters didn’t get nearly enough screen time but somehow the movie was 2 hours long. it really flowed in an odd way i guess, not really sure.
bale was approached to be marcus first before anyone and when he said he wanted to be connor that’s when they went to brolin and then worthington.
i liked the movie but so many things could have been done differently. i probably sound like a broken record.
I agree about Bryce Howard and others not gettin enough screen time. I read about how we were supposed to get to know Blair Williams about her guilt being a survivor after Judgement Day happend. I was impressed by Anton Yelchin’s portrayal of Michael Bien’s Kyle Reese. Hopefully they get more screen time in the sequel’s if any. I thought they did a pretty good job with T-800 sequence even though it was CGI.
Do you think Roland whats his name? be a good choice to play Conan in the reboot?
Yelchin was awesome in his role. I liked him the most in the movie. I wish they would have spent more time showing the relationship build between him and Marcus. The part where Marcus was showing him what to do with the gun is the stuff I like. Show more of that mcg.
The T-800 was sweet even if it was cgi.
Who is Roland?
The T-800 sequence wasn’t that great. Althought the CGI was done well, I don’t like how they underlined and overemphasized his presence, meaning, that as soon as he shows up, they start playing the Brad Fidel music cue for the first time during the actual movie after the opening credits. And the framing is symmetrical, where Arnold is perfectly in the center of the frame, trying to make the shot more epic, then the slow tilt up his body with the smoke conveniently hiding his crotch. The whole scene was too underlined, tried to be too perfect, to show offy. When showing the T-800, it should’ve been more non-chalant, like, there’s this terminator on the loose and look, it must be a T-800 ’cause he looks like Arnold. It should’ve been more subtle. It’s like the movie is stopping and saying, “look, a T-800 with Arnold flesh, look at how good of a job we did!”
And why was there even a T-800 in 2018? Don’t you remember that Reese said the T-800 series was new when he came from 2029 in T1? How come that T-800 was there 11 years too early?
And notice how they quickly blow him up, starting with the face? It’s like the filmmakers are thinking, “okay, let’s quickly burn his face off ’cause we can only animate Arnold for so long.”
It would’ve been cooler if the T-800/Arnold cameo didn’t occur until the end of the 3rd future wars movie, but I guess they couldn’t hold their wad.
Yeah VOR, I remember reading that on SR back aways.
Brolin prob found out that Mcg didn’t have control of the film and wasn’t about to risk his winning streak.
I liked Clair Danes in the role.
Besides Worthington, and Yetchin, I wansnt happy with any of the cast in T4. Moon Bloodgood didn’t do anything for me.
Marcus and Reese were supposed to be 80% of the script VOR but Bale insisted that he get more screen time. This screwed up everything.
Roland Kickenger is an actor that looks just like Arnold S.
@ Mike
Few explanations for ya Mike about what happend in the film. 1. I dont know much about the kind of guns used in the film but it wasnt no rifle John Connor was firing at the T-800’s flesh off etc. i dont know the name of what he used but it was used to fight off terminator’s more accurately. Its like in T3, at first Arnold tried using a rifle on the TX and didnt do nothin, then used that other firing weapon and TX was backin away. It was just the kind of weapon he had. As for the T-800 terminator being built in 2018 instead of 2029 was because the timeline was altered since day one after the events of T1. And in this film the T-800 were introduced as prototypes as seen on a computer at the beginning of the film. Just before the major climax, Skynet was informing Marcus about its failures of the T-800, T-1000, and TX which why it created him in this film. As for Arnold’s CGI appearance, i respect you opinion but i thought it was pretty good for the amount of time they showed. Im sure all they intended to do was pay homage to the original film.
@chrisj
Why do you think the timeline got altered after T1? T2 only confirms that the events of T1 always happened that way, with the conception of John Connor and the founding of Cyberdyne from the T-800 pieces left from T1. The timeline got altered by hiring the T3 writers, since they pushed Judgment Day back to 2004 (from 1997).
I could see how Sarah blowing up Cyberdyne pushed back Judgment Day by 7 years from 1997 to 2004 (according to T3) but don’t understand how Skynet was able to complete the T-800 11 years early (from 2029 to 2018), especially since they were delayed by 7 years.
The T3 writers messed up bad, they made it look like Sarah actually helped Skynet by blowing up Cyberdyne since initially it took Skynet 32 years to design the T-800 (1997-2029), now it takes ‘em only 14 years (2004-2018).
And now McG wants to push Judgment Day to 2011? WTF!
@ Mike.
Due to the remains of the T-800 from the first film, the developement of Skynet came into place. The Factory where it was terminated was owned by Cyberdyne Systems. And in T2, Miles dyson mentioned everything about Skynet’s Developement was based off the T-800’s cpu chip that was kept in the vault. Skynet was always gonna be invented, but due to the terminator being sent back to the past and having it’s remains takin for research, Skynet would be invented much earlier as seen in T2. As for Judgement Day being postponed, Some of the research and developeent of Skynet went up in flames, but not all. Miles Dyson wasnt the only one who brought his work home with him. AS for the T-800 being introduced in Terminator Salvation, remember the T-800 was only a prototype being just now being created by Skynet. Remember the look John had on his face and the others had on their faces at the beginning of the film, when they were hacking into Skynet’s operations, figuring out how to use real human skin for cyborgs. But since Skynet’s San Fransico’s base of operations was destoryed, that means the creation of the T-800 has been postponed itself. As for 2011, its been said that john sisnt goin back to prevent Judgement day, he’s goin back to gather world’s leader and inform them better about Skynet and its invasion. But no sequel has been a done deal yet and they could always change the story.
Am I correct in assuming the writers of salvation were the writers from T3? And if this is true, why in gods name would they bring them in for salvation? What were they thinking? My biggest issue was the script by far. IMO it made all the difference.
Doing the rounds. Possibly fan-made but better than the London crap: http://notasoul.t35.com/shh
