Teresa Palmer Circling ‘Warm Bodies’ & ‘Savages’

While I Am Number Four may not have been the Twilight style hit that DreamWorks was hoping for, Teresa Palmer has been reaping the benefits from her turn as a beautiful, butt-kickin’ alien in the sci-fi thriller. The actress is currently being eyed as a prospective starlet for both the young adult literary adaptation Warm Bodies and Oliver Stone’s Savages.

Universal has acquired the rights to Stone’s drug cartel drama and Palmer is one of several young actresses on the rise in contention to sign on for the film, which previously rumored candidate Jennifer Lawrence won’t be joining – due to her Hunger Games commitment.

Variety is reporting that actresses like Blake Lively and Olivia Wilde are also interested in tackling the female lead role of “O” in Savages, which Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine) may star in as well. Benicio Del Toro is another significant name currently circling the project, which is based on Don Winslow’s novel about two drug dealers that are forced to work for a Mexican cartel – after their (*ahem*) female companion “O” is kidnapped.

Heat Vision reports that Palmer is also in talks to join the cast of Warm Bodies, an adaptation of author Isaac Marion’s popular novel from writer/director Jonathan Levine (The Wackness). Palmer would essentially play the human Juliet to Nicholas Hoult’s zombie Romeo (or “R” – as the character is named) in a story that in part retells Shakespeare’s classic tale of lovers from separate, warring clans – within the context of the zombpocalypse.

Cool gals don’t look at explosions.

While Palmer had previously appeared in mainstream Disney titles like Bedtime Stories and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, it was her supporting turn as the quiet but deadly Number Six in… Number Four that really began to earn her attention – and, to be honest, she really was the one who left an impression in that film, not stars Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron.

While Stone is no stranger to tackling controversial or intriguing subject matter in his films, it’s been several years since he released an undeniable critical and/or box office hit. Savages will draw from some solid source material and is assembling a fairly strong cast of young talents, so perhaps the gritty drug drama will be a return to form for the edgy auteur.

Warm Bodies doesn’t read so well on paper and the film’s tone is described as being along the lines of Twilight meets Shaun of the Dead (take that as you will). Marion’s original novel is quite well regarded and is more a moving romance about lovers separated by uncontrollable, external forces (a la The Time Traveler’s Wife) than just Romeo & Juliet plus zombies. So take that as you will.

Warm Bodies is slated to begin filming this summer, and could reach theaters by the first half of 2012.

Savages looks to begin production later this year as well, with a 2012 theatrical release in mind.

  1. I’m trying really hard with her, but I just don’t get it. her looks are average. she’s your stereotypical blond in hollywood and yeah she’s landed some good film roles with great people, but at best…she’s average. I don’t see the screen capturing her anymore than half dozen other blonds in hollywood. I guess I’m ready for hollywood to find that face and talent that looks kind of different and unique, yet can also hold their own on camera.

  2. Wow. Did you just say, “her looks are average”? What picture are you looking at? Lol. And I got to say that she was my favorite part about Bedtime Stories. Never saw The Sorcerer’s Apprentice or I Am Number Four.

    • I kinda mean average as in typical hollywood. Like..she’s your norm for an actress. I just don’t see what makes her stand out. I can’t find it.

She’s totally beautiful. And her performances have been okay. I actually really liked her in Take Me Home Tonight. It might have been her strongest performance to date. But…idk..I’m just tired of the stereotypical ‘look’ of hollywood. It would be nice if directors would step away and cast something new, a new look.

  3. Well I think she looks magnificent in the pic above! Nice job finding it ScreenRant :P

And I have to agree she was the only good part of I’m Number Four. Her badass attitude was top notch! So I think she has potential.

  4. lawl at the “cool guys don’t look at explosions” reference. kudos-iez.

  5. so beautiful, love her flim, she’s your norm for an actress…
