Telltale has released the official trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series - Episode 4: Who Needs YouTelltale Games has been keeping a low profile of late, even as it keeps three different games going at once - including, Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 and Batman: The Enemy Within. It almost seems as if fans are waiting the company’s next slate of recently announced games: The Walking Dead: Season 4, Game of Thrones: Season 2, and a second season of fan favorite The Wolf Among Us. Still, that hasn’t stopped the company from chugging along with the next installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

There’s a lot going on in the trailer for Episode 4: Who Needs You. Following the events of Episode 3: More Than a Feeling, the Guardians are struggling to stay together. Nevertheless, the team will have to put their differences aside for now, as they find themselves buried in the dangerous caverns that linger beneath the surface of an equally-dangerous planet.

The episode's description likewise sets up an epic struggle of survival. You can read the synopsis for Who Needs You below (after watching the trailer for the episode, above):

With the fate of the Eternity Forge decided, the Guardians are left more bitterly divided than ever. But this growing tension is temporarily sidelined by a more pressing problem: escaping a dark and treacherous cavern before they all get eaten alive. As the cave's hidden threats creep closer, Star-Lord must hold his crew together if he hopes to keep everyone safe. Safety, however, may ultimately come at a terrible cost...

The team must band together, along with Mantis, and fight their way through worm-like aliens crawling out from every corner of the cave. We see Gamora holding her severely injured sister, Nebula, and promising to leave the Guardians once they find their way back to the planet’s surface. All the while, Hala has The Forge and is preparing to use it to unleash genocide upon the galaxy.

It’s hard to say for sure what this episode will truly be about. This trailer is short, and only hits on the general story beats that the previous episodes were already building up to. It’s not that big of a surprise that the Guardians are at each other’s throats and are saying they’re going to quit - that's kind of their thing. It looks like the game will pay a little homage to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 however, as we see a shot of Drax leaping in the air towards a giant, worm-like enemy while dual wielding knives and screaming bloody murder.

Screen Rant’s Andrew Dyce found Episode 1 to be lacking, saying “players of differing walks of life and moral compasses are likely to feel that they played the exact same experience– no, the exact same story as anyone else.” Critical reviews for the first three episodes of Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy have been mixed, scoring 70, 72, and 72 overall on Metacritic, respectively.

Telltale has so far played it safe with Guardians of the Galaxy. Whereas Batman: The Telltale Series and Batman: The Enemy Within have played fast and loose with the Batman mythos, Guardians seems to be striving to hit more or less the same beats as its live-action film counterparts. Whether they start to spice things up with Episode 4 remains to be seen, but this new trailer does promise to ramp up the stakes.
