UpDated 7-2-09

Last year at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con, the event was ruled by several big named movies that ranged from youthful vampires to illegal vigilantes.  TV was more a side-note than anything else.

This year at the 2009 Comic-Con, things will be a bit different as television programming seems to have a bigger presence than last year.

For instance, the Warner Brothers Television Group will have 11 different panels for their shows.  That’s a studio best for them.  ABC Studios will have 7 panels.  20th Century Fox will have 9 panels.

Do you think your favorite television show will be represented?

This year, I’m ready…  I hope.  So in preparation, I’ve started sifting through the network press releases and other resources, pulling it all together for myself.  I decided…  OK, maybe I was nudged a bit by Vic, to actually put it all prep info together here, for you, our loyal readers.

I’m done chatting.  Let’s take a look at what television panels are lined up for the 2009 San Diego Comic Con.

In Closing

There is no news on True Blood yet, but I can’t imagine HBO not being there.  We also won’t see any panel for NBC’s Day One because NBC execs say it’s “too early” for that, but there will be some buzz marketing.  Huh?  Since when is it ever too early to tease fans?  Is this some kind of warning sign?

I don’t think this is the best time for Tom Welling to not be at the Smallville Comic-Con panel and that has me wondering.  I’m jazzed about Bruce Campbell from Burn Notice being there, though I just might have enjoyed the explosive Fiona attending as well.

I’m also curious about the mega successful panel that Ghost Hunters had last year, why I haven’t seen any news about them for this year?  The line to get into that panel went down the hall, out the back door, around the north side of the convention center and ended almost at the street out front.  Where are they this year?  Maybe it’s early and they haven’t announced anything yet.

Keep in mind that as with anything involving the actors, creative teams and such, all schedules, guests and plans are subject to change.  Last year the Knight Rider panel started without everyone except the showrunner because the cast got caught up in a pretty bad traffic jam trying to get to the event.

Are there any panels you, the reader, really need us to cover?  Let us know and the cadre of Screen Rant reporters will do their best to cover it!

  1. When are they going to change the name to, Media Con. ???

  2. haha, good point

  3. If ScreenRant could really try to cover the “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood” panels that would be amazing! Watching amazing UK television shows in America does not always gaurantee good insights due to the fact that not only am I getting the show a season behind the airing in the UK, but they are very good about protecting their secrets!

Plus, I’m not sure how many people in America know of these great shows! They just suck you in and are mind-blowing!

  4. Cheers Jessie, arnt they great. ;-)

After watching Doctor Who and Torchwood, I can’t watch garbage like Fringe or Dollhouse. They just don’t even come close.

  5. We’ll see how things work, but my initial plan is to be there Jessie.

  6. Hopefully someone will be covering the Chuck panel. Dying to find out more about how the new Intersect will affect Chuck.

  7. Cool, I’ll be there in line for the Torchwood presentation.

Now I really need to catch up on my Torchwood. 8-O
