Slowly but surely, with each new piece of media released or leaked, director Jonathan Liebesman's upcoming reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is coming into focus. Fans got their first true look at the new versions of those titular mean, green fighting machines from the '80s and '90s in a promotional poster, which appeared a few months ago and showed off the unique design and personality of each individual Turtle.
Since then, a teaser trailer has also popped up, giving us an even better idea of how the Turtles will look and act onscreen. It's clear from we've seen so far that Leonardo is still the leader in this film, while Donatello is the scientist with a tech-pack, Raphael is the badass and Michelangelo is of course the clown of the bunch. April O'Neil also appears to retain some of her prior damsel in distress status, even if Megan Fox says she won't be just a helpless sidekick.
But there are two other very important characters that haven't gotten much screen time yet: The Turtles' mentor, Master Splinter (voiced by Monk star Tony Shalhoub), has only been glimpsed from behind in one new teaser, and Shredder (played by William Fichtner) has only been seen in shadow. But now, thanks to Idle Hands, we have a better look at these two with scans of concept art from a new book titled “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History.”

While the image of Splinter is clearer than anything we've seen so far, what's curious about it is that the character doesn't seem to be sporting the same long facial hair that was seen in the previously released teaser. Notably, he's also wearing his classic red outfit from other incarnations, as opposed to the bright yellow from the teaser.
If this is indeed concept art for the new film, maybe it was an early draft before the artists decided to go a different route.
On the other hand, the concept art of Shredder matches exactly what we've seen and heard about the character having "pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything." Many wondered if the design would come off as ridiculous from being so elaborate, but it actually makes Shredder look more menacing than anything. And standing in the shadows with blades protruding in every direction will go a long way toward terrifying audiences and making them worry about the Turtles' safety.
