There’s nothing like finding out your favorite childhood characters are turning 25 to make you feel old. With TMNT: Turtles Forever, we’re celebrating this great anniversary with a made-for-TV animated movie so amazing that it has me forgetting about my age-related insecurities.
Produced by 4Kids Entertainment (the folks behind the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series), this television event combines multiple era’s of Ninja Turtles in a story that’s so great, I really can’t explain it in words. Although, this article is relying heavily on words, so I should at least try, but I apologize ahead of time for any (more) fanboy-ism.
Here’s the low-down. The Turtles from the 80’s try and send the Technodrome back to Dimension X, but something goes wrong and they end up in a parallel universe -- one that’s populated with its own version of the Turtles – the ones from today’s cartoon. So, we’ve got 2 sets of Turtles, but that’s not all… The turtles from the 80’s brought with them Shredder , Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady and the entire Foot Clan.
That’s really all I can say without writing out the entire story. That’s how amazing it is and that’s how much I love it. Sure, I may sound crazy, but I promise you, I’m not. This story is so great that I would have paid to see it in a theater. I can’t believe they’re airing this on Saturday morning because while it’s “aimed” at kids, it’s clearly written for the child-at-heart.
Enough butt-kissing. Check out the trailer and after, I’ve got some good news.

If you watched the trailer – like I told you to – you would know that this was going to air on The CW November 21 and since it’s December, you missed it. Well, yeah, that’s true. You missed the entire hour-long airing of the movie, but that was the bad news.
Here’s where all the good news comes in: While you’ve missed the first airing, they’re re-airing the special in 3 parts on Saturday mornings. Just wait, that’s not the good news because you’ve already missed the first and second part re-airing.
The good news is that 4Kids Entertainment are putting the parts on their website (4Kids.TV) after they air. On December 16, they’re going to release an extended directors cut of the movie on their website. At some point this is all going to come out on DVD, but nothing has been announced – yet.
So, to kick things off, here’s the first part of the movie directly from 4 Kids Entertainment.

As a kid, my brother was obsessed with TMNT. He had the videogames and our mom would record the cartoon for him if he ever had to miss an episode. Some of his turtle love rubbed off on me too, so we were very excited when we were watching TV one evening a couple weeks ago and saw a commercial for this ‘movie event’. It looked so awesome that we set the dvr to record it.
It truly was fantastic! It seemlessly combined the old turtles with the new turtles. Plus there were so many things I only half remembered that this was a fun walk down memory lane (unlike the Transformers and GI Joe movies). I got such a sense of glee from watching this movie! Everybody should see it!
Whoever made this film has a love and understanding of TMNT that’s quite impressive. It’s nice to know the franchise is in good hands.

What happened to turtles man? I grew up with the comic books and the 1st movie.
The comic books were dark, gritty and very VERY interesting. The movie, albeit being a cheesy 80′s flick, touch upon some dark themes and addressed serious issues.
Now it’s all watered down, fox morning cartoon type of stuff. I’m surprised Hollywood hasn’t “rebooted” the franchise with “dark” theme. I guess they think more money is to be made by catering to the younger and larger audience.
I miss my turtles from the 80s/90s
Those wondering about the original comic book Turtles need not worry as they play a big part in this movie and I can tell you that they don’t take too kindly to the other Turtles.

I watched the film and really enjoyed it! The original comic turtles at the end was a great addition. I liked how they meshed it all together. Not a big fan of the turtles, but enjoyed it anyway….. and all the different turtles and cast.
Saw it; loved it. Never watched the new version, saw some of the 80′s version. Would’ve loved it if they could have used the original voice cast, but these guys were close enough for me. Also would have liked a little cameo from the 80′s TV theme. Oh well. They brought in all the great parts of the old show and they had just the right amount goofy humor.
Best line; “This is the lamest vehical in the history of lame vehicals!” (New Raphael describing the Turtle Blimp).
