It depends on the story,
But a trailer for a book is a cool idea.

Bill Blume says:

Not really the first time I’ve seen this done, a video trailer to promote a book… but it’s definitely got much more to its production than most of the trailers for books I’ve seen. Heck, most of them are little more than a few pictures with a voice-over.

I might give this book a try, but I’m kind of ambivalent about the plot presented. I’m not sure I’m seeing anything all that original in it… yet.

Ken J says:

For some reason everytime I saw this headline until now I kept reading “The Stain” and was like “WTF? I don’t even want to know…”

Thought maybe it was a biography of Bill Clinton or something…

Joshi says:

Decent CGI for a book that will likely have very little CGI in it.

(and since people lately have been taking me way too seriously on the internet, yes, that was a joke)

Ken J says:

I think you are underestimating the amount of CGI the book will have… :-P

Ken J says:

I also think this will be in 3D. So when you flip the page, it’ll be like the page is coming right out at you!!

So i guess it will be at least eight years before he finally gets round to his H.P Lovecraft movie.

Joshi says:

Knowing my luck, the book will be released in IMAX… and me without a single IMAX book store in my town.

Ken J says:

Stop complaining Joshi, as long as you have surround sound at home you can always enjoy it when the book comes out on blu-ray…

Joshi says:

I don’t got Blu-ray. I just got bog standard DVD’s. This book better come with an audio commentary, that’s all I can say.

You guys are seriously cracking me up. :-P

@Bill Blume,

I realize this isn’t the first time there’s been a video trailer for a book, but it’s one of the few times I’ve seen it have as much effort put into it, with as good production value. As you say, it’s usually just images with a voice-over, but they’ve really gone all out on this one. Having this released online will get them more readers for the book(s) than they otherwise would have had, for sure.

@Ken J,

Haha! You should get a prize for comment of the week – “The Stain: A Biography of Bill Clinton” – Classic :)

Joshi says:

In all seriousness, I actually do own a couple of books with deleted scenes in them. :p

Ken J says:

@Joshi

Even better than audio commentary, I heard it’ll have page in page (PIP) commentary.

Ken J says:

@Vic, they have a video teaser for a book, these comments are mandatory, lol.

hamlet3k says:

Just finished the book, actually. I know, I know, I’m pretty effing behind.

Brilliant. That’s a pretty concise review, sure, but it’s all I’ve got. I’m intrigued where the series is going to go.

I now understand why Blade 2 stands out as the real odd-man-out of the franchise. The Reapers are del Toro’s vampires. The vamps in “The Strain” are hyperactive blood addicts with grotesquely rearranged internal anatomy and that hideous whip-like proboscis… I wondered why the Reaper strain didn’t make another appearance in Blade 3… GdT took ‘em with him when he left. :)
