Taylor Lautner Sentenced to ‘Incarceron’

Incarceron Movie Taylor Lautner

Although the massive success of the Twilight franchise turned Taylor Lautner into a star seemingly overnight, the young actor seems acutely aware that it’s only a matter of time before that particular gravy train runs out of track. The two-part Twilight finale, Breaking Dawn, may be the final word on everyone’s favorite jean-shorts-wearing, tribal tattoo-sporting shape shifter – but Lautner is already laying the foundation of his post-Jacob career.

The actor has already completed work on John Singleton’s upcoming thriller Abduction and has a Stretch Armstrong movie in the pipeline as well. Now Deadline is reporting that Lautner is also attached to star in Incarceron – an adaptation of Catherine Fisher’s acclaimed sci-fi/fantasy novel.

The film is being written by Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, who previously penned Accepted and the upcoming Brett Ratner comedy Tower Heist. Lautner would play Finn – a seventeen-year-old trapped inside of a futuristic prison society.

Here’s the synopsis of Incarceron from Fisher’s official site:

Imagine a living prison so vast that it contains corridors and forests, cities and seas. Imagine a prisoner with no memory, who is sure he came from Outside, even though the prison has been sealed for centuries and only one man, half real, half legend, has ever escaped.

Imagine a girl in a manor house in a society where time has been forbidden, where everyone is held in a seventeenth century world run by computers, doomed to an arranged marriage that appals her, tangled in an assassination plot she both dreads and desires.

One inside, one outside. But both imprisoned.

Imagine a war that has hollowed the moon, seven skullrings that contain souls, a flying ship and a wall at the world’s end. Imagine the unimaginable. Imagine Incarceron.

Taylor Lautner attached to Incarceron

Incarceron is the first in a series (the second book, Sapphique, will be released later this month) so there’s no doubt this is being viewed as a potential franchise. It’s an interesting premise and the blending of genres is certainly intriguing, but it remains to be seen how well Lautner performs outside of the Twilight arena.

His popularity certainly isn’t in question and I’m sure Twilight fans will continue to support all of his endeavors, but Lautner has never had to carry a film squarely on his shoulders before. He seems like a decent enough guy, but I’ve never found him to be all that charismatic on the big screen.

Is he up to the challenge? I’m not convinced – but he definitely has no shortage of opportunities to prove me wrong.

We’ll keep you updated on Incarceron as it develops.

  1. If nothing else, this article has inspired me to read the book!

  2. A Twilight actor in a prison movie? That’s too easy to make of :D

  3. Honestly I know that the material in the twilight series isn’t groundbreaking but he’s a terrible actor. I was like thank you bella for not wanting him because if I have to continue watching this guy attempt acting then I may kill something. He’s the best friend in love with the girl he can’t have. He could have been much better. I’m not looking forward to seeing any movie of his until he takes a few acting classes. Sorry to be so brutal but its how I feel

    • good thing your feelings will not affect how many movies this guy acts in, i was almost worried

    • Something tells me your a rob fan girl with your in depth ‘screams rob-fan-girl’ review of acting skills. Lets’ hope kristen stewart takes rob pattinson to acting classes too, now there is where it’s needed!

  4. No please no! This book is so good, and Taylor Lautner is not nearly an inspiring enough actor to pull off Finn. Uggh, without the right casting they could ruin this movie’s adaptation before it gets off the ground, Just like so many others.

    • Is it true that in the book this living prison tortures its prisoners by teasing them with the possibility of escape? If so, that’s pretty dark and awesome.

    • are we all casting directors now, do you know Taylor outside of movies you have seen? the bottom line is you dont have a primordial clue as to how this guy will perform in a new movie. people have become way to opinionated. you do not know taylor any better than i do.

      • you have my vote. saw him on Letterman, those twi trailers, and when I was an extra on Abduction. I liked him. He did some superb stunts, he is a super athlete. I’ll give him a chance to prove himself..he’s what 17-18, I like to think I improved with age why shouldn’t he! Since I can’t foresee the future I’ll just have to wait and see. I do have a preference for good sci-fi fantasy flicks & this was a really good book.

      • Well, I haven’t watched much of Taylor’s acting, but he just… doesn’t seem like the right actor to play Finn. Finn isn’t the guy who everyone screams at to take his shirt off. That’s why we have Keiro. (Hey, maybe he could switch roles!) :D

  5. I actually like Lautner. I just hope they don’t “Twilight” this movie in anyway.

    • You just drop that hope now, they seem to be Twilighting everything these days.

  6. I am not a Catherine Fischer fan, and Taylor Lautner hasn’t done enough to convince me0 that they shouldn’t have given his part to the hottie from The Coven (or whatever that movie about the hot boy witches at that boarding school was called)

    • If you’re not a Catherine Fischer fan nor taylor lautner wth are you doing on this article?! Boggles me why and where ppl waste their time online unless that’s all they got.

  7. I love this book and I love Taylor Lautner so if he is in the movie then they picked a good actor to play the character of Finn. As long as they get a good actress to play Claudia then the movie should be good

  8. The moment I heard about this new Taylor Lautner endeavor is the moment I decided I am buying the books. Sci fi, and Taylor as a prisoner, is a no brainer for his fans.

  9. this book was amaizing,,, so excited for the 2nd book in the series! hope taylor does well but its a hard role to play :]

  10. Well it did make me go and purchase the book. It sounds great to me, and I cant wait to see it visually. Well anything with Lautner in it sounds great to me. Now I have to go and read Sapphique. Love ya, Tay.

  11. I love Taylor Lautner, and this sounds really interesting, I’m really excited to go and see it. To everyone saying ‘he can’t act’ how do you know? Give him a chance to prove himself before you say that. I think Taylor’s got a lot of potential and he’s very good-looking and charismatic. I think he’s going to be great in this movie, and he’ll suprise a lot of people and the movie sounds like it’s worth seeing.

  12. I adore Incarceron and it’s sequel, the books are amazing and the idea that they’re being made into a film excites me but I have my hesitations about Lautner.
I’m worried it’ll almost seem like a sell-out, that the directors only want the popularity Lautner brings and not his acting skills. He could make an okay Finn but I’m not sure, I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
In the very least I’m happy that they didn’t cast him as Keiro, when I saw Lautner’s name and Incarceron I was worried they’d cast him as th pretty-boy. Couldn’t be more thrilled they haven’t (:

  13. Okay, if the popularity of this movie goes the way of Twilight, I will be le disappoint. I want this book to gain a larger following as much as the next fan, but they have to give us someone super-fine as Jared (Who even knew he was only 30 before Sapphique? He came off as such a middle-aged man.) to make up for the TLautz faux pas. Unless he really steps up the acting, in which case I’ll give him credit. Thing is, he tries to play “angry” in the Twilight franchise, and it comes off as ridiculous. He’s much better when he’s funny (a.k.a. pre-werewolf). Unfortunately, Finn is all about the angst and drama. So I shudder to think of what two hours of ZOMGSH QQ I MUST ESCAAAYPE will be like.

  14. I love “Incarceron” and I’m a big fan of Taylor Lautner so I’m pretty sure this movie will be awesome. As for Taylor’s acting skills I would have to say that he could use one or two acting classes to improve some more. I can’t imagine him playing as Finn and I think that he’s going to have to work hard to create the same character and personality that Catherine Fisher gave Finn. As long as the actress that plays Claudia is good then this movie should turn out well!!!!

  15. IT WON’T BE EMMA WATSON. IT’LL BE THE NEW TEEN HOLLYWOOD STAR MARIA JUAN GARCIAS. HERE GOES THE CONFIRMATION: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1610486/

AND HERE SOME PHOTOS OF THE BEAUTIFUL MARIA: http://www.turkcealtyazi.org/galeri/4324432/maria-juan-garcias.html

PS: IT IS RUMORED BOTH STARS (TAYLOR AND MARIA) HAVE BEEN LATELY GOING OUT! PEOLPLE MAGAZINE RUMORED SO!

    • How many sites did you post this on?!

Me and several others already told you, the Maria girl looks awful!!
There are several others who would look way better.

And I guess you haven’t seen Tay’s GF Lily Collins, then…

  16. I just finished the series, and i think it is really great.. I also love Taylor Lautner, but really only in twilight. I don’t reallly think he should be the one to act as Finn. But if he can pull it off i will love him Forever. Other than that, i think Emma Watson SHOULD play Claudia. whatever the choice of actors i hope the movie will be just as great as the book.

  17. Wow….. I think it’s kinda weird how they have kind’ve a soft actor who plays in romance’s play in a role who someone is imprisoned, but I would love to see how Lautner can pull this role off, because I does sound pretty hard to do

  18. ı love you taylor
