Tarantino, Muppets, & the Wizard of Oz

Quentin Tarantino in a introspective momentIn another stroke of Hollywood moviemaking genius, Quentin Tarantino (the director behind “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill”), will play himself in a Muppets version of “The Wizard of Oz”.

R&B singer Ashanti (whoever that is) plays Dorothy, who is wisked to Oz in a tornado. There, she meets the Munchkins (played by the Muppet rats), the Scarecrow (Kermit the Frog), the Tin Man (Gonzo) and the Lion (Fozzie). The group’s quest to get the Wicked Witch (Miss Piggy) culminates with a fight scene between Dorothy and the witch.

The film cuts to Tarantino pitching to Kermit how the scene should be done.

Quentin Tarantino. In a Muppet movie. Giving feedback on a fight scene.

Maybe he’ll recommend they have swords hack off the puppets’ heads, and along with them the puppeteers’ hands in a shower of blood. Wouldn’t that be funny for the parents who bring the kids to the movie??

Siiiiiigh.

  1. That sounds like a terrible idea. First of all, the Muppets lost their popularity right around the same time as Weird Al Yankovic. Besides, how many kids are familiar with Quentin Tarantino? I happen to think he’s an exceptional writer and director, but I’m all grown up (depending on who you ask). What about Tarantino’s movies, or his personality for that matter, could possibly appeal to kids? It sounds to me like the suits are just trying to capitalize on the exposure he got from his recent movie releases. The world would be a better place if the suits could honestly look themselves in the mirror and say to themselves, “Wait a minute… what the heck am I thinking?”

  2. I have to think that they put in actors such as Tarantino to appeal to the adults and not the kids. But man…. Tarantino?

  3. Boy, this and the other entry today make me want to stay home from the movies and get a root canal.

Who comes UP with these ideas? And why would any self respecting actor take the roles?

I just watched Leave It To Beaver on TV because everything else was stupid.
You know I can’t believe how many people I have heard disparage that show, along with Father Knows Best (an outstanding bit of TV) over the years. What’s the matter with people?

  4. People are just “too hip” to admit they like some of those classic shows.

As to why any self-respecting actor would take those roles… one word: money.

  5. uh. . . . Flying Monkeys and Katanas? Dude this is sick, twisted, and totally freaking hilarious. I can’t wait to see how this will turn out.
