  1. I think they should just combine Hungry Hungry Hippos with Expendables 3 and have Stallone, Willis, and Ah-nuld having shootouts with monster hippos ravaging New York City after a DNA experiment went catastrophically wrong.

“These hippopotami are about to die.” The next great cheesy action one-liner.

    • Now that’s a HHH movie I’d see!

  2. Great fun again, chaps, thanks. Was funny as hell listening to ‘how it must be to be Liam’s daughter’. It’s pretty special that you manage to actually tell me all I need to know about a movie, review it with an expert eye and still manage to be entertaining. Other places I have tried can only seem to manage one or the other.

“Your sister has been taken – to the hospital”!

Looking forward to the High Fidelity-esque Screen Rant Movie.

Now about the ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Transformers’ found fo-tage….

    • Cheers Wayne! Glad it was fun and informative.

Your mother has been taken – to Dairy Queen. It’s free cone day.

      • lol, you crazy Americans – I’m guessing that Dairy Queen rules Buttertown and the Curds?

        • Seriously, why is it that any actors who come into proximity with Obi-Wan Kenobi are cursed with familial kidnapping and death. First Han, now Qui-Gon? This can’t be an isolated incident.

  3. The Lone Ranger trailer really could be about anything I totally forgot about the werewolf aspect and I remember seeing 1 shot of the actual Lone Ranger and no cool money shot at the end of the trailer to get you exited about the movie unless you count Johnny Depp saying, “Kimosabe”…

    • I completely forgot about werewolves until you guys mentioned it as well

    • But did you see the TRAINS? THE TRAINS?

Finally a Lone Ranger movie that gets it right – centered around Tonto and to-scale train sets.

      • To be honest (and I don’t care how nerdy this makes me sound) I would be completely interested in ANY movie that deals with the spread of the railway across America. That kind of history/capitalism/greed/corruption/optimism was pushed to the back of ‘Hell on Wheels’ pretty quickly, but was what I was most intrigued by.

Great movies featuring trains that I love:

        3:10 To Yuma.
        The Ghost and the Darkness.
        Back to the Future 3.

This is not a coincidence. I’d even be happy if we just start with more Westerns in the hands of capable directors. That’s not necessarily a slam at Jon Favreau (really) since the first 30 mins of ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ was some of the most fun I’ve had in a theatre in a long time. Craig played one hell of a convincing cowboy, but then the film went a totally different direction, which left me wanting more.

That isn’t a slam either, since the plot of the movie was, in my opinion, ten time better than the graphic novel.

  4. 1. Argo
    2. Sinister
    3 Here comes the Boom
    4. Hotel transylvania
    5. Taken 2
    10. trouble with the curve

Another great podcast! White chicks isn’t too bad ben! It has some good laughs haha

    • Maybe I should watch Serbian Film first – and then White Chicks as a palette cleanser…

  5. Box office battle.

    1. Argo
    2. Taken 2
    3. Here comes the boom
    4. Sinister
    5. Hotel Transylvania
    10. End of watch

  6. Do you think if Taken 2 was a parody/satire/meta of the first like the Expendables 2 was to action movies, it would a better movie?…I was just wondering about this while listening to Anthony…

    • Pretty sure it just fell for action cliches, most notably the chase scene.
And they tried to involve both the female characters in a close family way which wasnt really believable.
I still liked it anyway, but I also thought Liam Neeson was going to murder the boyfriend who would be out to kill them. I feel the film couldve been better if they played up the family issues instead of glossing over them and justified the action more.
Still most epic fight scene of the year, shouldve been TDK: rises climax fight.

    • No, I think that it would have been better if they stuck to any generic Action sequel. That’s the problem with Taken 2, it doesn’t do anything of that. Instead, it’s some type of oddly pieced together story about nothing.

I didn’t like Expendable 2, so I’d rather no movie try to replicate that element. I’m not sure what they were trying to do with the movie, but it’s clear that this is everyone’s paycheck from the first one making so much money.

Hopefully next time the bad guys will have “taken” some therapy, so we don’t have to sit around and watch a third one. It’s too bad that Taken 3D is too tempting of a title.

You want to know what would make it cool? Liam Neeson needs to be the one taking people next time. Set it up like some kind of Home Alone type thing, let Neeson take out guys with tar and swinging paint cans.

      • I amlost died laughing at your home alone comment!! hahaha Church Ocasio all the way! :p

        • Haha don’t forget the Micro Machines! In all honesty, I used the term ‘Taken 2: This time it’s personal’ as a joke sequel mocking Hollywood. I guess I underestimated them, and the moviegoers.

          I really want a Talkboy.

  7. I doubt the writers of Taken 2 considered this. But could the daughter not be too traumatised with the idea of sex with the bf because she was never actually sold in the sex trade? I recall she was a virgin and was about to be auctioned off when her dad rescues her.

    • Yah, this was confusing for me too. It seemed like they tried to go there – but then didn’t. The focus on the buttons in the scene with her boyfriend was just plain weird.

  8. Taken 2 = Boring stuff happens. Theres a car chase, You won’t remember it. Brian Mills is the worst dad possible. Jean Grey cries. Death by touching. Maggie Grace’s butt looks good in shorts because I like slim white women’s butts. Hell, it why I’ve (unfortunately) seen more than 10 episodes of 2 Broke Girls (Beth Behrs).

    • “Death by touching.” Amazing.

      • You guys did see that when he “touched him” he pushed/slammed the back of his head on a hook that was behind him.

        • Mmmmmmmmmmmmmidunnooooooo probably residual Midichlorians.

  9. 1. Here Comes the Boom
    2. Argo
    3. Taken 2
    4. Hotel Transylvania
    5. Sinister
    10. Trouble with the Curve

  10. Another great episode guys for sure. I didn’t know earths mightiest heroes had a secod season either so I’m gonna have to check that out.

    Box office.
    1. Sinister
    2. Argo
    3. Taken 2
    4. Here comes the boom
    5. Hotel Transylvania
    10. Trouble with te curve.

    • On Avengers EMH, there are 26 eps in total. Some are listed in wiki as being shown in Australia only, so if you can find a way to see them, its definitely worth it. The whole season is just amazing and the last few eps are fantastic.

    • Cheers!

  11. 1. Here Comes the Boom
    2. Sinister
    3. Taken 2
    4. Argo
    5. Hotel Transylvania
    10. End of Watch

  12. Kofi’s “faster” joke >>>>

  13. Ha, love that bit about making Taken from the treatment. “Let’s make this…but it’s only 12 pages…we’ll make it work”. That was awesome, thanks for the laugh:)

    • Yah, I think Ant hit the nail on the head there. In all seriousness, it does seem like the film was fitted around the core idea – and, as a result, a lot of elements were stretched too thin.

  14. This week:

    1. Here Comes the Boom
    2. Argo
    3. Hotel Transylvania
    4. Taken 2
    5. Sinister
    10. End of Watch

Haven’t seen Taken 2 yet, but listened to spoilers anyway. Didn’t think it would matter much, haha. Saved money. Nice job once again!

    • Glad we could help!

  15. I think its just too much analyzing into this movie. People liked it so much because Liam Neeson was badass, thats it and all.

    • I definitely won’t disagree, I loved the first movie because it was just trying to be cool, slick action that had audiences hoping to see Liam Neeson get revenge.

That being said, that’s also a big part of why I loved ‘Dredd.’ But if the sequel happens (fingers crossed BIG time) Urban and Garland have both voiced their hopes of expanding things, not just giving more of the same.

  16. Has any one seen Unknown?

  17. Unknown was okay. I’m just tired of watching movies where people take on a false persona and forgetting who they originally were.

    • I found it mediocre as well. The end was kinda interesting but January Jones was distractingly bad

  18. I think for me the biggest bait and switch was The Bridge to Terabithia.

The marketing for that movie made it look like a rather generic fantasy movie for kids. But in actuality it is a wonderful drama about friendship, imagination and other deeper themes like loss or mobbing at school. I really recommend watching it. Just forget about any trailer for this movie that you ever saw. They make it look like a completely different and lesser film.

    • That’s true! I saw The Bridge to Terabithia on a plane and was surprised by the direction that film goes.

  19. 1. Sinister
    2. Argo
    3. Taken 2
    4. Here Comes The Boom
    5. Hotel Transylvania

    10. Atlas Shrugged 2

  20. 1)SINSTER
    4)TAKEN 2

  21. Ben! I think you need to draw the line on A Serbian Film – seriously one of the most (if not the most) disturbing films I’ve seen. I think Anthony needs to reconsider… otherwise good luck!

    • Yah, I’ve been told a few more things about it since it was first assigned to me – definitely not excited about this one.

  22. #1 Taken 2
    #2 Sinister
    #3 Hotel Transylvania
    #4 Here Comes the Boom
    #5 Frankenweenie
    #10 Atlas Shrugged: Part II

  23. It’s been a long time since my last submission. Here it is:
    1. Argo
    2. Here Comes the Boom
    3. Sinister
    4. Taken 2
    5. Hotel Transylvania
    10. End of Watch

By the way, I saw A Serbian Film at the canadian premiere in Montreal and I almost fainted during the movie. It’s one of the most unpleasant movie I’ve ever seen! And I am not unfamiliar with gore and graphic violence in movies. When I heard Anthony say “I would like you to watch A Serbian…” I had flashback and I didn’t feel very good. Good luck Ben!

    • Thanks Adel!

Yah, I’m not looking forward to it.
