‘Zombieland’ TV Series Being Developed By Fox

The chances of a sequel to 2009′s sleeper hit Zombieland being made have been looking extremely dim of late. However, that film’s vision of a post-zombpocalyptic world may live on (pun intended)… on the small screen, that is.

Reports are in that Fox Broadcasting is collaborating with Sony Pictures Television on a Zombieland TV show, which would be a half-hour action-comedy series in the vein of the 2009 film. That makes it all the more fitting that original screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also “onboard” to design the program.

Woody Harrelson Says ‘Zombieland 2′ Isn’t A Guarantee

Total Film spoke with Zombieland star Woody Harrelson recently, and in somewhat of a downer update (see what I did there?) the hemp-loving thespian let it be known that while Hollywood logic would dictate that a sequel to a $100 million box office hit (and winner of “Most Pirated Movie 2009“) is a no-brainer, Zombieland 2 is not something that is guaranteed to happen – nor should it be.

We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

NBC’s new web series FCU: Fact Checkers Unit follows dedicated celebrity fact checkers, Russell (Peter Karinen) and Dylan (Brian Sacca), as they will go to any lengths to make sure that every fact printed in the show’s fictional publication, “Dictum Magazine,” is indeed true.

The FCU: Fact Checkers web series is based on Karinen and Sacca’s hit short film of the same name, which became a hit at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. In it, Russell and Dylan were forced to track down the elusive Bill Murray in an attempt to confirm whether or not Murray drinks warm milk before going to bed.

3D Movies Run Amok: A Fad That Should Stop… But Won’t

When I was a child I got this new toy for Christmas: A fireman’s hat with a rotating red light on top of it that made siren noises. I loved that hat… It was new, shiny, and all sorts of awesome. The problem was that I would wear it everywhere: School, church, friends’ houses, the mall, outside to play, etc. It didn’t take long for it to become old, tired and broken.

I’m starting to feel the same way about Hollywood and its newest toy: 3D technology.

We have no one to blame but ourselves, really. Maybe if audiences hadn’t made Avatar the highest grossing film of all time, then Hollywood studios wouldn’t be mortgaging their mother’s heirloom jewelry to convert their films into 3D.

Avatar Leads 2010 Saturn Awards Nominations

Today marks the day when the nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards are given out. In case you’re not familiar with them, they are given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (they also include TV shows and stage productions) so as a reader of Screen Rant I believe they’re right up your alley .

The awards will be given out on June 24th, so we have over four months to speculate and choose the nominees we’d give the award to. The categories range from the usual Best Film (separated into Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction etc) to Best DVD release and Best DVD Special Edition.

Keeping in line with all of the rest of the major awards, films like Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglourious Basterds ...

Zombieland Writers Talk 3D Sequel & New Characters

It was at first rumored and soon thereafter confirmed late last year that a sequel to the hit horror/comedy, Zombieland, is on the way. And not just a sequel but one done in 3D, meaning we’re surely in store for all manner of blood and brains seemingly landing in our laps in the theater.

We knew at the time that the studio was in talks with Woody Harrelson and Jessie Eisenberg to reprise their respective roles (no word on the return of the two female leads quite yet, although I’d say it’s very likely), and also that the director Ruben Fleischer, producer Gavin Palone and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (who are working on both Deadpool and G.I. Zombieland Writers Penning G.I. Joe Sequel

IESB nabbed the exclusive news that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are the two writers who will be penning the upcoming sequel to G.I. Joe. If those names sound familiar, it’s because just yesterday we reported that the pair will also be penning the upcoming Deadpool movie.

For those keeping count, that means that Reese and Wernick now have G.I. Joe 2, Zombieland 2 AND Deadpool under their belts. Good time to be Reese and Wernick – bad time to be their hands (carpal tunnel alert!).We’ve known for awhile that G.I. Joe 2 was in the pipeline. The first film, Rise of Cobra, made $300 million at the worldwide box office and the film’s “story” was obviously (and unabashedly) geared toward establishing a franchise. So what will Reese and Wernick bring to the table?

Two weeks back we reported on a Ryan Reynolds interview from MTV where they talked about the actor’s success throughout 2009 and the two major comic book films he is signed on for: Green Lantern and Deadpool.

Now, MTV Splashpage has put up another part of that interview where Reynolds discusses finding a screenwriter(s) to pen the X-Men Origins: Deadpool script as well as who his ideal director for the project would be, and how that choice just so happens to link to that other comic book movie he’s starring in: Green Lantern.

Zombieland Gets 3D Sequel

It was a rumor and now it’s turning out to be true: Zombieland, this fall’s hit horror/comedy (and the current no. 1 pirated movie on the Internet) will in fact be getting a sequel – in 3D, no less.

Variety has confirmed the news (which first circulated around the blogosphere about a week ago), adding more fuel to a fire we here at Screen Rant lit under our butts, with a lengthy op-ed about the Zombieland piracy controversy.

So, with the fuel added, let the fire burn anew…

Why Movie Piracy IS Bad (And What To Do About It)

We here at Screen Rant recently took notice of a post over at Shock Til You Drop referring to a Twitter-based message from Rhett Reese, writer of the recent horror/comedy Zombieland, in which Reese claimed that a Zombieland sequel is now a questionable endeavor, largely due to the film’s current status as “the most pirated movie on bit torrent.”

Here are the numbers behind that statement: Zombieland‘s current worldwide earnings – according to Box Office Mojo – approximate to about $85 million, more than tripling the movie’s $23.6 million production budget. Looking at figures like that, a sequel should be a no-brainer, right?

Is a ‘Zombieland’ Sequel Already in the Works?

After bringing in an impressive $25 million in its first weekend, the splatterfest zombie comedy Zombieland already has fans clamoring for a sequel. Luckily for them, it looks like everyone involved with Zombieland is just as excited to come back for another round of Zombie slaying action.

In an interview with MTV, Paul Wernick, one of the writers of the critically acclaimed comedy, spoke about the cast and crew’s enthusiasm for the sequel.

“We would love it, and everyone involved creatively wants to do another one. Woody [Harrelson] came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, ‘I’ve never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I’ve done until this one.’ “

Don’t kid yourself going into Zombieland: It is a VERY gory movie. So if based on trailers and commercials you’re expecting just a funny, goofy film, you’ll be in for a surprise. On the other hand if you’re a fan of the zombie movie genre, you’re in for a great time.

Zombieland is about a couple of guys trying to get by after the zombie apocalypse. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is a shut-in, introverted geek with a fear of clowns and Talahassee is a nothing-to-lose, redneck badass who’s finally discovered his gift in life: Zombie killin’. Oh – and Talahassee’s one burning goal is to find some Twinkies so he can satisfy his burning craving for them.

Five new clips have appeared online for the highly-anticipated zombie comedy, Zombieland. If by now you have no idea what Zombieland is, you must be living under a rock.

With titles like “Prospecting,” “Clown,” “Nut Up or Shut Up,” “The Rules” and “Take A Little Off the Top” you’re interest has to be piqued a little. Whilst only one clip is titled “Nut Up or Shut Up,” said advice is given in pretty much all of the clips – it may just become my philosophy from now on. Well, maybe I’ll just keep it in my back pocket in case of a zombie apocalypse. “Nut up or shut up” can’t really help me while waiting line at the gas station… Or can it?

First up is a new clip for the upcoming sci-fi/horror, Pandorum, starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster. Set upon a deep space vessel 500 million miles away from earth, the film follows two crewman who wake from their cryogenic sleep to find the vessel’s population missing and mysterious creatures terrorizing it. The Event Horizon meets Alien meets Sunshine film has looked great so far – check out the latest creepy-as-hell clip from it:

A new international trailer has appeared online for the upcoming zombie comedy, Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelsen, Jessie Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Amber Heard. It’s not all that different from the first trailer, but it does give us more of a pointed view of things from one of the main character’s perspective.

Zombieland is a comedic-action take on the zombie horror sub-genre. It follows two men – Columbus (Eisenberg), a “big wuss,” and Tallahassee (Harrelsen), an, “AK-toting bad-ass,” – who have managed to survive in a land overrun by zombies. The pair team up with two other survivors, Wichita (Stone) and Little Rock (Breslin), and together they help each other survive in “Zombieland.”

It’s a great premise, and generally it takes a great leaf out of the book of brilliant zombie comedy, Shaun of the Dead, ...
