Happy Friday everyone! For the last Friday of October before Halloween weekend, we’ve again gathered the latest posters to come out for this week’s poster round-up.

Screen Rant’s wall this week now includes new one-sheets for Nowhere Man, Séraphine, Cabin Fever 2, Invictus, Collapse, House of the Devil, Late Fee, Jennifer’s Body, Zombieland, Everybody’s Fine, The Fouth Kind, The Road, Kniga Masterov (Book of Masters), The Bleeding, Gentlemen Broncos and Youth in Revolt.

In addition to that, we have a little somethin’ somethin’ for Disney’s A Christmas Carol and Heavy Metal.

Let’s get to it.

To start, here’s a poster for the John Lennon biopic, titled Nowhere Boy which stars Aaron Johnson as legendary Beatle.

Nowhere Man opens in the UK on December 25 and is directed by Sam Taylor Wood.

Is a ‘Zombieland’ Sequel Already in the Works?

After bringing in an impressive $25 million in its first weekend, the splatterfest zombie comedy Zombieland already has fans clamoring for a sequel. Luckily for them, it looks like everyone involved with Zombieland is just as excited to come back for another round of Zombie slaying action.

In an interview with MTV, Paul Wernick, one of the writers of the critically acclaimed comedy, spoke about the cast and crew’s enthusiasm for the sequel.

“We would love it, and everyone involved creatively wants to do another one. Woody [Harrelson] came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, ‘I’ve never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I’ve done until this one.’ “

Given everyone’s “gung-ho” attitude for a follow-up, and Zombieland’s impressive financial success, a sequel the the film is probably inevitable. Does that mean a script is already in the works? Not yet, but according to Wernick, that might not be a huge problem, since he and co-writer Rhett Reese originally conceived Zombieland as a TV series.

“It has lived in our heads for four-and-a-half years. We developed it and wrote it as a spec TV pilot in the summer of 2005. We’ve got a long brainstorming document that still to this day gets updated on a near-weekly basis with ideas. We’ve got tons of new ideas swimming in our head.”

Of course, before Wernick and Reese can sit down and hammer out a script, they have to finish the multitude of projects that are already on their plate. Currently, the pair are working on a draft of a Venom movie for Sony Pictures, as well as the science-fiction film Earth vs. Moon, which they hope will star Will Smith.

Short Version: Zombieland is Shaun of the Dead’s crazy, funny redneck cousin.

Don’t kid yourself going into Zombieland: It is a VERY gory movie. So if based on trailers and commercials you’re expecting just a funny, goofy film, you’ll be in for a surprise. On the other hand if you’re a fan of the zombie movie genre, you’re in for a great time.

Zombieland is about a couple of guys trying to get by after the zombie apocalypse. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is a shut-in, introverted geek with a fear of clowns and Talahassee is a nothing-to-lose, redneck badass who’s finally discovered his gift in life: Zombie killin’. Oh – and Talahassee’s one burning goal is to find some Twinkies so he can satisfy his burning craving for them.

Columbus has managed to survive because even before the zombies took over he didn’t like being around people and was very paranoid. He’s developed a list of rules for surviving in a world overrun by zombies, and the first few are highlighted hysterically in the opening minutes of the film. Among them include Rule #1: Cardio – it goes back to the old joke about not having to outrun the bear, just your buddy. He notes that “fatties” were among the first to go after the zombies took over because they were easy to catch. Other rules include “Beware of bathrooms” (you don’t want to get caught by a zombie while on the toilet) and “Always double-tap” (two gunshots, whacks with a blunt object or blade to be sure the zombie stays down).

There are a few additional rules sprinkled throughout (he has over 30) and they’re used to good effect.

Then we have Talahassee, who you’ll like immediately – he’s apparently taken the situation in stride, no, strike that – he actually seems to be enjoying it. His favorite thing to do in the world is to kill zombies. He’s travelling in a Cadillac Escalade, armed to the teeth, and you’ll get a kick out of the creativity and gusto he uses when dispatching the undead.

Our heroes meet Wichita and Little Rock (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin), who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem. However part of their survival has included not trusting anyone, so things are sketchy between both pairs for quite a while.

Eventually they end up in Beverly Hills, where they pick up a “Map of the Star’s Homes” in order to find a certain celebrity’s home where they can relax for a while. There’s a great cameo in the film and I won’t spoil who it is. Soon after the girls head to an amusement park in the LA area so that Little Rock can have at least a little childhood fun, but things take a sour turn, requiring rescue from the boys.

As I mentioned in my “Short Version” this is a lot rougher than the only other recent zombie comedy I can think of, Shaun of the Dead. That one had more of that dry, Brit humor and at times was scary than this film (this film really wasn’t scary at all, just gory).

Zombieland was a lot of fun, but even though it only had about a 90 minute runtime, by the end it seemed to me like they were stretching it out a bit – I think most of that was in the final scene in the amusement park… could have been trimmed somewhat. I thought everyone in the film was great, but one think that bugged me a little was some of Jesse Eisenberg’s dialog: He played the character as a really, meek, introverted, geeky kind of guy so the spurts of f-bombs and other foul language coming from him really seemed added for cheap laughs. Yes, I know this is an R-rated film and I have no issue with foul language if it fits – but for his character I just didn’t think it did.

Those nits aside, I thought Zombieland was a lot of fun with many laugh out loud moments and lots of gore to satisfy fans of the genre – but do me a favor and leave the kids at home for this one, would ya?

Five New Zombieland Clips

Five new clips have appeared online for the highly-anticipated zombie comedy, Zombieland. If by now you have no idea what Zombieland is, you must be living under a rock.

With titles like “Prospecting,” “Clown,” “Nut Up or Shut Up,” “The Rules” and “Take A Little Off the Top” you’re interest has to be piqued a little. Whilst only one clip is titled “Nut Up or Shut Up,” said advice is given in pretty much all of the clips -- it may just become my philosophy from now on. Well, maybe I’ll just keep it in my back pocket in case of a zombie apocalypse. “Nut up or shut up” can’t really help me while waiting line at the gas station… Or can it?

Even if you’re NOT looking forward to this film , it might be worth watching “Nut Up or Shut Up,” (clip #3) just to hear Tallahasse (Harrelsen) tell a zombie that he has “a pretty mouth” and the proceeding to beat him with a banjo. Hilarious.

Screen Rant Invades Fantastic Fest

Have you ever enjoyed a movie while having dinner and beer… at an actual movie theater? That’s the main claim to fame of Austin’s Alamo Drafthouse. But if that wasn’t enough, they’ve gone above and beyond by creating special programming that caters to the geek in all of us. Things like quote-alongs with The Big Lebowski and Office Space, outfitting an entire audience with Flint Tropics uniforms for Will Ferrell’s Semi-Pro, and tailoring their menu to match what’s on-screen. For example, right now you can enjoy root beer extract cookies while watching Mike Judge’s Extract.

How do you top all of that? By creating a film festival made entirely for movie geeks. This year marks their fifth annual Fantastic Fest, which was originally conceived by Drafthouse founder Tim League, among others. It’s an eight day celebration of movies that appeal to the geek in all of us, ranging from sci-fi, to horror, to anime, to weirdness from Hong Kong and more. That’s not to say it’s all obscure strange stuff like the four hour Japanese bizarre upskirt movie called Love Exposure – movies like Zombieland, Daybreakers, and Jared Hess’ new film Gentlemen Broncos will all be screening over the next week.

And we’ll be watching. Stay tuned to Screen Rant for all of the weirdness of Fantastic Fest and more as we bring you capsule reviews, photos, and more from what Variety calls “Geek Telluride.” Fantastic Fest officially begins today, so check back tomorrow for a roundup. A bunch of new clips and TV spots have appeared online recently for five highly-anticipated movies: the sci-fi/horror flick, Pandorum, the zombie action-comedy, Zombieland, the martial arts action flick, Ninja Assassin, the teen horror/comedy, Jennifer’s Body, and the all-star comedy, The Men Who Stare at Goats.

PANDORUM

First up is a new clip for the upcoming sci-fi/horror, Pandorum, starring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster. Set upon a deep space vessel 500 million miles away from earth, the film follows two crewman who wake from their cryogenic sleep to find the vessel’s population missing and mysterious creatures terrorizing it. The Event Horizon meets Alien meets Sunshine film has looked great so far – check out the latest creepy-as-hell clip from it:

Pandorum opens September 25th, 2009, in the U.S., and on October 2nd, 2009, in the UK.

Zombieland

Next we have three new clips/TV spots for the upcoming zombie action-comedy, Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Jessie Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Amber Heard. The Scoop: Pretty little starlet Kate Beckinsale takes on this graphic novel turned killer-thriller. Beckinsale plays a U.S. Marshall investigating Antarctica’s first homicide as the sun sets for six entire months. Will she find the killer in the cold dark before he finds her?

SR Says: The trailer paints this movie as more X-Files than detective story, which could confuse some on the premise. However, cold weather and hot Beckinsale = worth the ticket price?

The Informant!

The Scoop: Director Steven Soderbergh helms an all-star cast providing you “a mix of A Beautiful Mind and The Insider.” Damon plays the exec of a agri-business giant who goes overboard working as a snitch for the Feds. It’s bi-polar, whistle-blowing storytelling at it’s best!

SR Says: It’s going to be amazing to see what this cast can pull off under Soderbergh’s direction with such an involved script.

See it? Yes.

The Scoop: Megan Fox plays a possessed cheerleader, with a fetish for feasting on boys (and girls). Hot sexy teens, girl on girl kissing/rubbing and more social satire from Juno writer Diablo Cody.

SR Says: Depends on how you feel about Megan Fox looking both sexy and grotesque in one film.

See it? If you like teen horror flicks, or are a devotee of Cody.

Pandorum

The Scoop: Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid star as two astronauts who wake up on an abandoned future spacecraft and have no idea what’s happened. As with all things in movies, time unveils the “truth” of what they face – a ship full of crazy space monsters.

SR Says: Dennis Quaid has had some woofers lately, but Ben Foster always offers something unique. MMA fans may recognize cast member Cung Le as the current Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, which guarantees at least two raucous fights in this thriller.

See it? Yes.

Surrogates

The Scoop: In a future where people live life through robotic surrogates, Bruce Willis plays a cop who must venture back into the real world to investigate a string of crimes involving people dying while connected to their Surrogates.

SR Says: Jonathan Mostow is an underrated director, and seeing Bruce “alive” again, with great f/x and a bit of gravitas sounds like a great combination.

See it? Absolutely.

Zombieland International Trailer

A new international trailer has appeared online for the upcoming zombie comedy, Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelsen, Jessie Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Amber Heard. It’s not all that different from the first trailer, but it does give us more of a pointed view of things from one of the main character’s perspective.

Zombieland is a comedic-action take on the zombie horror sub-genre. It follows two men – Columbus (Eisenberg), a “big wuss,” and Tallahassee (Harrelsen), an, “AK-toting bad-ass,” – who have managed to survive in a land overrun by zombies. The pair team up with two other survivors, Wichita (Stone) and Little Rock (Breslin), and together they help each other survive in “Zombieland.”

It’s a great premise, and generally it takes a great leaf out of the book of brilliant zombie comedy, Shaun of the Dead, in having some fun with a horror monster that has been mostly treated with dead-on (get it?) seriousness. Check out the new international trailer below:

As stated, the main difference between this trailer and the first trailer released for Zombieland is that the international version is narrated by one of the main characters, played by Eisenberg, as opposed to the usually heard “trailer voice.” Although it follows the same formula as the first trailer – explaining what’s going on, adding darkly humorous comments along the way – I think it adds to the tongue-in-cheek nature of the film. The same approach was used (to some extent) in the hilarious Zombieland red band trailer.

Zombieland looks like a helluva lot of fun, mixing what looks like well judged/timed comedy with some quality action/chase sequences, as well as some over-the-top special effects and cameos from a host of familiar (zombiefied) faces. And what a role for Woody Harrelsen! I always knew there was a role perfectly suited to him that he hadn’t quite played yet…

Hilarious Red Band Trailer for Zombieland

In mid-June we got our very first real look at the upcoming genre-improving Zombie film, Zombieland, through its first trailer and it looked awesome!

Building on the fun of that trailer and positive buzz online, the director and stars of Zombieland put on a successful and enjoyable panel at San Diego Comic-Con where those of us in attendance were treated to a brand new trailer and several great clips for the movie. All of what we saw was much more gruesome and much more entertaining compared to the edited-for-all-audiences trailer that came out earlier.

Today, we have for you the brand new Red Band trailer for Zombieland which, from what I remember, is the same as what we saw at the Comic-Con presentation. Check it out (if you’re of age):

I can’t say it enough – this movie looks perfect for what it is. From the trailers, it’s doing everything right, from the characters to the style, to the cinematography and sweet (and at the same time, hilarious) special effects. This movie should be a blast and I’m looking forward to it.

You probably figured out a lot of this from the trailer, but here’s a synopsis for the movie:

There’s also rumors abound that there may be some other star appearances in the film including a possible cameo by Bill Murray whom they could not confirm or deny being involved when asked about it in the Q&A segment of the Comic-Con panel.

Comic-Con: Zombieland Pleases The Hordes

Today’s panel for Sony Pictures in the massive (but not big enough) Hall H began when director Ruben Fleischer was introduced on stage with his first task to present a brand new exclusive Zombieland trailer “just for Comic-Con.”

The trailer began and it was awesome. The entire crowd was having a blast and enjoying a few good laughs. This trailer showed off some really great shots (some repeated from the first trailer), we saw some slow-motion zombie kills, comedic gore scenes, great character moments and Woody Harrelson dual-wielding Chainsaws. Win!

After the trailer, we were introduced to the key cast members which included Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Woody Harrelson who all joined Fleischer on stage for the panel.

They started the discussion by talking about what brought them to this movie and their thoughts on their first roles in the zombie genre – which was worrisome to the cast members except for Emma Stone who thought it was pretty cool to begin with. Her favorite part was being able to use a gun which she quickly fell in love – with the training, they said she’s a great shot.

As for Woody and Jesse, once they read the script, they couldn’t put it down and I’m happy they didn’t because they are both fantastic in their roles from what we’ve seen so far.

Next, they played a clip for the crowd which depicted Jesse Eisenberg’s character having his first Zombie experience. A hot girl from down the hall banged on his door frantically as she screamed for help. He let her in to comfort her, hearing her story about being attacked by some crazed man… who she later reveals tried to bite her.

After some funny narrative dialogue by Jesse’s character, we see them wake up from their little nap on the couch and to no surprise, the no-longer-attractive crush of his had turned undead and went on a rampage after him… and the hilarity ensued.
Later, they moved into Q&A which was unfortunately loaded with audience members asking awkward and non-entertaining questions about what they’d do in real life zombie situations or what weapon they’d use, blah blah, etc..

One of the questions asked what their favorite way to take out a zombie was. Here are their responses:

Woody: Chainsaw (quick response)
Emma: butt to head with a shotgun resulting in an 80 foot fall
Jesse: some crazy amusement park contraption (I didn’t get what he was saying)
Ruben: The infamous zombie kill of the week from the trailers: piano drop

All of the panelists said their inspiration was the script which was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As for their favorite zombie movies (which they seemed to know little or nothing about), Emma Stone likes Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead, director Reuben loves Shaun of the Dead, saying that “It certainly nails zombie comedies.”

Woody Harrelson started his response by saying “You know, zombie movies really scare the %#@* out of me.” His choice is 28 Days Later after some help from the others on stage – He couldn’t think of the name but said after that “was a sleepless night after.” Jesse also said 28 Days Later but clarified jokingly saying he’s scared of every movie, especially Shrek.

One of the speakers asked about the Bill Murray rumor and whether or not he’d be appearing in the movie. His follow up question was “If so, how can they use him to take out a zombie?” which generated some laughter from the hordes of people in attendance.

Woody responded:

“I can confirm that there is a rumor about Bill Murray. I don’t know about the last part.”

He also answered another question about a potential sequel:

“There’d be at least 3-4 probably. It’d be nice for steady work.”

After this, we were treated to another scene where Woody and Jesse meet the two girls followed by a series of different sequences of the movie. The best scene here was a snippet of Woody on a roller coaster ride shooting targets (zombies) as he rides with the camera following from behind.

Overall, this was a fun and excellent panel to observe. Everyone had a great time and I think this will be a big hit. For me, this is a perfect film for what it attempts to do and it’s certainly on my must-watch list.

The First Trailer For Zombieland Rocks!

The first official trailer for the comedy-horror zombie flick, Zombieland, is finally out and it looks fantastic!

The post-apocalyptic, zombie comedy stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and is directed by Ruben Fleischer.

The synopsis of the film goes something like this:

In the horror comedy Zombieland focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. Columbus is a big wuss — but when you’re afraid of being eaten by zombies, fear can keep you alive. Tallahassee is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.

Wow! I’m sold. What a perfect role for Woody Harrelson.

I love the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy-type of narration to go along with the action and comedy scenes. The film looks beautiful and wildly entertaining. With a strong cast and good film style, this is something I’ll be looking out for this fall.

Also, rumor has it that there might be some big name cameos in the film. There’s reportedly been a scene shot with Billy Murray as a zombie for the movie and now there’s rumblings of a possible appearance by Matthew McConaughey – rumored to also play a zombie of course.

Studios Ramp Up Production Prior To SAG Strike

As it stands, Hollywood studios are deadlocked in their contract negotiations with the Screen Actors Guild. That news stirs up foul memories of a year ago, when the Writers Guild of America was at a similar juncture with the studios… Soon after that there were no TV shows for about half a year.

And we all know what that did last year’s TV season.

In anticipation of the worst (which has ironically become the norm in these days and times), studios are turning to the pre-strike protocols they devised after the 2007 WGA strike, pushing as many films as they can into production so that the 2010-2011 movie roster doesn’t end up barren.

Not to worry, Summer movie enthusiasts: just about all of your big budget sequels (Transformers 2, Night at the Museum 2, Angels & Demons) are safely in production. Doomsday epic 2012 is also going to make the cut. Any other new films that studios hope to get off the ground, however, are going to face major problems without actors to act in them. But we’ll cross that bridge if and when we come to it. For now, negotiations continue.

Personally I’m glad Iron Man 2, Thor, Green Hornet and Avatar made the cut; I’m hoping that Bioshock and Gears of War will be worthy of their excellent video game sources–and I’m praying that Jonah Hex is going to turn out well. Hex was badass on that Batman: The Animated Series episode.

Welcome to the first Mid-Week Movie News Wrap Up ever!

Due to the mighty success of “The Weekend Wrap Up” Screen Rant has now introduced a news segment to furnish you with even more news during the week! Hollywood is a busy place and now Screen Rant readers have the opportunity of getting even more movie news.

News this week:

We debunk Cher as Catwoman in Batman 3, look at the trouble behind Babylon AD; discuss the chances of a third Riddick movie, let you know how you could be apart of Spider-Man 4 and Woody Harrelson fights Zombies in Zombieland.

1. The Cher Catwoman story that has been doing the rounds this week is total BS! As we’ve told you before Chris Nolan hasn’t even spoken to Warner Brothers about a third film so any casting that you hear is pure speculation. The story originated here in the UK where newspapers like to make up fictional movie related news. The closet Cher has ever been to Catwoman (or ever will) was when she dated former Batman Val Kilmer in the 1980’s.

2. Mathieu Kassovitz, the director of Vin Diesel actioner Babylon A.D. has come out and criticized the film and the studio behind it just days before the film is to be released.

Kassovitz told AMCTV:

“I’m very unhappy with the film. I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be. The script wasn’t respected. Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience. It’s pure violence and stupidity.”

In what sounds an awful lot like the troubled story behind the forthcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine Kassovitz said this about 20th Century Fox:

“Fox was sending lawyers who were only looking at all the commas and the dots. They made everything difficult from A to Z. I should have chosen a studio that has guts. Fox was just trying to get a PG-13 movie. I’m ready to go to war against them, but I can’t because they don’t give a s–t.”

It sounds like Fox isn’t too talent friendly when it comes to genre movies these days. Alex Proyas had similar problems with the studio when making I Robot, Kassovitz seems to have been used as a studio puppet and now Gavin Hood with Wolverine issues. It’s hard to believe that this is the same studio that let George Lucas make the original Star Wars back in 1977.

3. Speaking of Vin Diesel it seems like old chrome dome is interested in returning to the role that made him a household name – nope it’s not The Pacifier. Diesel has been talking up a third Riddick movie.

Diesel had this to say to MTV:

“David Twowy right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the Lord of the Rings guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind The Chronicles of Riddick was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer Pitch Black in the same way that Lord of the Rings answered The Hobbit.”

I wonder of Vin knows what hyperbole is?

Considering the lack of bank The Chronicles of Riddick made, I think that his claims may be a tad Riddick (ulous). However, it seems that Vin has never heard the expression “you can’t go home again” he has returned to The Fast and The Furious franchise, he wants more Riddick and there are rumblings about a third Diesel powered XXX. Ouch!

4. Want to be in Spider-Man 4? Now you have your chance! Joblo is reporting a story that you can now bid for the following on ebay:

A visit to the set of Spider-Man 4 (one shooting day)
- Location of visit will be determined by Sony Pictures based on scheduling of visit
A meet and greet with the cast (1 hour)
A walk-on/ extra role in the film for the auction winner only
- Role and length of screen time to be determined by Sony Pictures
Trip to the New York premiere
- Location of American premiere may be changed at Sony Pictures’ discretion

If I even liked the Spider-Man movies or had the five grand minimum bid I might be interested in this. However, sarcasm aside the money from the bid (if it’s legit) would be going to fight cancer (not crime) so I’m sure the rich person who wins will not only be very happy, but also feel overjoyed because they are carrying out a good deed. There might be a bit of a wait though, as no cast or director have signed on to the film… yet.

Now just imagine if a rich movie star put in a bid – just so they could be a part of the Spider-Man franchise. Who could be crazy enough? Nic Cage?

5. Like Zombie movies? Me too. So does Woody Harrelson.

The fomer Cheers star is set to battle the living dead in Zombieland. The film is a horror comedy to be directed by Ruben Fleischer.

The film follows two mis-matched friends in a world over run by Zombies. Harrelson will play a Zombie hunter named Albuquerque.

This could be good, but it could be terrible. I’ll wait to see a trailer before I judge.
