Brett Ratner Says ‘Youngblood’ Movie is Still Happening

Since the beginning of 2009 when Brett Ratner first signed on to direct the comic book adaptation Youngblood , we have yet to see much official progress on its production. Outside of casting rumors, the film has been continually delayed and almost forgotten about.

At the beginning of this year’s summer season, Ratner updated us slightly on his hopes for Youngblood becoming a franchise. He confirmed that the Rush Hour series is done, as is his involvement with the X-Men franchise, but he would love another opportunity to helm a superhero franchise, no matter the budget. Youngblood very well could be that opportunity, especially now that its legal issues are at an end and they can continue working on the script.

Brett Ratner Talks ‘Youngblood’ Film

Brett Ratner is talking about his upcoming film adaptation of Image Comics’ Youngblood series – as well as his feelings about comic books in general.

Little progress has been made on the Youngblood movie since Ratner was announced as the director for the film last year. Ratner admitted that the screenplay is still being fine-tuned and that the movie will be a future project for him, “whether it’s next year or whatever.”

Ratner, who directed X-Men: The Last Stand, has expressed his desire to take charge of another major comic book movie franchise. Despite the poor critical reception of his contribution to the X-Men franchise, Ratner remains optimistic that he could handle another superhero go-round.

Brett Ratner Wants Robert Pattinson In Youngblood

At the beginning of the year, it was announced that Brett Ratner would be directing yet another comic book movie, Youngblood. Of course this wasn’t met with positive reaction, but since then, the only other major update we had was that the screenwriters were half-way through finishing their first draft of the script.

The few details we did find touched on some of the characters we may see, one that we wouldn’t see, and the unique reality show elements would stylize the film – The Youngblood team are celebs who work for the government, after all.

New Details On Rob Liefeld’s ‘Youngblood’ & ‘Capeshooters’

In February, Screen Rant reported that beloved director Brett Ratner would be helming the big-screen adaptation of Rob Liefeld’s 1990′s Avengers knock-off original comic book series, Youngblood. Today we’ve got more info on Youngblood for you, including who is writing the script, what the plot is likely to focus on, and the shocking news that a major character from the Youngblood comics WON’T be making the transition to the big-screen.

Brett Ratner Wants To Be On The Comic Book Movie A-List

Everyone’s favorite director, Brett Ratner, recently went on a bit of a rant to MTV News, talking about how he would love to direct more comic book movies, if only there were still some of the ‘best heroes’ to go around.

Now, I know what a lot of you are already thinking–but at least take a look at what the man had to say before you go ripping into him, please.

“I would do any superhero movie that I was asked to do,” Ratner told MTV News. “But I wouldn’t have been interested in ‘Iron Man.’ I have a lot of respect for [Jon Favreau], because to me, it was a B-character. ‘Iron Man’? … But look what he did.”

Brett Ratner To Helm Youngblood

Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired the film rights to Youngblood, the comic series created by Rob Liefeld, and has set Brett Ratner to direct. The Image Comics series which debuted in 1992 is about a Superhero team that works for the government.

In speaking to Variety, Ratner said:

“Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and ‘Youngblood’ is one of the few comicbooks left with tentpole potential… It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (‘Youngblood’), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”
