Summary
A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe's nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening. The film is based on the novella by Jonathan Ames. An adaptation was announced in 2016, with director Lynne Ramsay and star Joaquin Phoenix onboard. Principal photography began in August 2016. An unfinished version of the movie was screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor.
