X-Files 2: How Is This Not Going Direct-To-DVD?

X-Files 2: How Is This Not Going Direct-To-DVD?

I know Heath here at Screen Rant is looking forward to the X-Files movie sequel, but me, I just don’t get it. After years of what seems to me to be David Duchovny struggling to get X-Files 2 made, it’s finally happening. Filming starts on December 10th and the studio has targeted July 25th as the release date.

That’s just eight months from start of production to projection on the big screen. Seems pretty quick to me, but as I recall X-Men 3 met a seemingly impossible production schedule as well.

Then again, we all know how well that movie turned out.

X-Files 2 Starting Production This December?

X-Files 2 Starting Production This December?

It’s being reported by Comingsoon.net (now picked up by Ain’t It Cool News) that on December 10, 2007, the sequel to the successful X-Files movie (and television show) will begin production, presumably for a 2008 release.

Consider this a rumor for now, but if it’s true, I’d say part of the reason for starting production after nearly a decade, is because of the Writers Guild strike that will likely happen this Thursday, November 1, 2007, along with potential Actors Guild and Directors Guild strikes next July. Studios need as many movies as possible, to avoid a complete drought of new flicks. I plan on updating the Writers Guild strike very soon, so stay tuned!

(For the record, I’m excited about the return of X-Files.)

X-Files 2 to come out 2008, says Duchovny

X-Files 2 to come out 2008, says Duchovny

David Duchovny says that the second X-Files movie will go into production soon for a release next year, Gillian Anderson is onboard, series creator Chris Carter is co-writing, along with popular writer/producer Frank Spotnitz (who was doing the cancelled, but in my opinion cool Night Stalker TV revamp in 2005), and directing.

So, what do I think?

Another X-Files Movie Coming? YAWN…

Another X-Files Movie Coming? YAWN...

The very plugged in site IESB reports that finally, another X-Files movie is very close to getting final sign off and being made. They had a chance to speak to David Duchovny who stated that they were in final negotiations for the film and that production should commence in 2008.

As I’ve stated here before: Does anyone really care about X-Files any more? Chris Carter abused the fans so completely towards the end of the show’s run that I don’t know how even fans of the original will care to show up for a theatrical movie based on the series. I mean, wasn’t the last X-Files movie supposed to answer all the questions and tie up all the loose ends?

How exciting, X-Files still moving forward

How exciting, X-Files still moving forward

As I commented here almost a year ago the X-Files movie is still crawling forward. I will reiterate my prior thoughts by saying “Who Cares?”.

Over the course of the show, Chris Carter morphed into the girlfriend that forever promises that she’ll sleep with you, teasing you just enough to think that she will next time. X-Files started out awesome and continued that way for quite a few seasons, but after a while it seemed like there was nothing to the show but red herrings.

I can just picture him laughing at the gullibility of the fans who expected a resolution to the whole show with a final answer that would tie everything together.

Personally I hope the movie tanks.
