Our friend Steve “Frosty” Weintraub over at Collider is one hard working man. If you’ve ever read a day of his Twitter account then you already know that he spends enough time jet setting to give George Clooney’s character in Up In The Air a run for his frequent flyer miles.

Frosty’s specialty is nabbing great celebrity interviews – a skill which not only helps his site standout from the pack, but also helps clear up the rampant rumors the rest of us blogosphere types spend our days “reporting,” by getting official words straight from the horses’ mouths.

Hollywood has a hard time making great video game movies & we know why: They're picking the wrong games. Here are our suggestions for some ridiculous game to movie prospects.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. – Albert Einstein

Mr. Einstein could have very well been talking about Hollywood and all of the video game movies turds it has squeezed out in the past 27 years. Some people incorrectly think the wretched Super Mario Brothers kicked off the video game movie trend in 1993 but actually it started way back in 1984 with the thriller Cloak & Dagger, based off the Atari game, starring a young Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Dabney Coleman.

Regardless of which year we start from, there have been dozens of movies made from video games and, although some have come close (Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider), NONE have actually been good. There have been some financially successful video game films but a large box office draw ...

Click to continue reading 1001 Ridiculous (but Possible) Upcoming Video Game Movies

Coming Soon just passed us a note saying Sam Raimi, who directed all three Spiderman movies, confessed to MTV that Robert Rodat is set to write the forthcoming Warcraft movie. Having written Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot, Rodat is no stranger to scripts that are heavy on combat.

Raimi had this to say to MTV:

“We want to be really faithful to the game…We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a ‘World of WarCraft’ adventure.
Forget Krypton! Superman wants to be the hero of Azeroth instead!

It’s no secret that Brandon Routh is a gamer and a long-time player of the most successful MMORPG ever, World of Warcraft.

With his love of the video game, it’s no surprise that with the recent news of Sam Raimi signing on to direct the World of Warcraft film, Routh wants to be a part of it.

As we all know, Brandon Routh’s contract with WB for his role as the Man of Steel in the Superman franchise has expired along with that of director Bryan Singer. They’re going a different direction with Supes and rumors of who may be taking the reins have already began to surface in the aftermath of the latest court ruling on the topic of the ownership of ...

Click to continue reading Brandon Routh Wants to Really Play World of Warcraft

Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News has been hard at work in recent weeks tracking down and verifying a very interesting piece of information: The director for the upcoming film adaptation of the biggest MMO ever, Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, will be Sam Raimi.

We all know Sam Raimi for his Evil Dead films, the three Spider-Man films (and the upcoming Spider-Man 4) and more recently for his well-received horror movie from earlier this summer, Drag Me to Hell.

The man has an insane amount of feature film projects in development and as we don’t know of any official dates for the production schedule of World of Warcraft, we don’t know when exactly we could be seeing this.

We do know that the fourth Spidey installment is set for a release ...

Click to continue reading World of Warcraft To Be Directed By Sam Raimi?

Legendary Pictures, the studio that co-produced The Dark Knight and 300, bought the movie rights to Activision Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, the world’s leading MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), almost 3 years ago and it has been rumored ever since that they are bringing it to the silver screen.

Call of Duty, a first person shooter also by Activision, is now also rumored to see action on the big screen as well. The only information to come from the studio and game maker regarding this and the World of Warcraft films is pure speculation, but it would seem that Hollywood is dead set on getting a video game movie right, by evidence of the two-dozen or so live-action films in the genre they shoved out the door in the past 20 years.
