The box office moves to Wonderland; Elm Street has some Resident Evil; the Tribeca Film Festival sees green with Shrek Forever After; Marion Cotillard and Rachel McAdams hangout with Woody Allen; there’s a huge difference between Knight and Day’s release date; Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell have a laugh together and Amber Heard decides to Drive Angry.

There was once a time when Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were the outsiders in Hollywood, but it would appear that those days are long gone. The duo, who first worked together on Edward Scissorhands twenty years ago have ratcheted some big hits since then and it looks like Alice In Wonderland is set to be their biggest. The quasi-sequel to the Lewis Carroll tale has scored $115 million over the weekend according to estimates, beating Avatar’s record for the biggest 3D opening of all time. It looks like ...

Tom Cruise’s Wichita Film Now Has A Title

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s new action-comedy has been without title for a while now. First it was titled Wichita and then it was renamed Trouble Man (that was never going to work) and for the past few months it’s been going by the rather clunky name of “Untitled Wichita Project“.

I know you’re dying to find out the name – but first for a riddle.

What’s the difference between Wichita and Trouble Man?

Knight and Day is the answer, apparently.

The Cruise and Diaz re-teaming (following Vanilla Sky), which is now shooting in Boston, has been been titled (if you haven’t guessed), Knight and Day.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 4, 2009

This week:

Zombieland eats the competition; Josh Brolin is the new Sean Penn in Cartel; Jessica Alba is added to Fockers; Kim and Kelly get Adjusted; Sarsgaard joins Cruise and Diaz; Sheen, Unger and Nesbitt are Shown The Way by Emilio Estevez.

Zombieland exceeded expectations and managed to reach number one of the top ten at the box office this week. The Woody Harrelson stars in Zombieland and it should make about $25 million this weekend. That’s about a million more than its reported production budget!

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs should manage another $16 million or so giving the animated film a good $82 million total.

Toy Story I and 2 3D was third giving the animated combo a solid $13 million. Considering that these puppies have been available on DVD for over a decade bodes well for Toy Story 3 ...

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 27, 2009

This week:

The box office is still Cloudy; Neve Campbell Screams again; Dourif and Plummer confess to a Priest; TNT give some Basterd’s $12 million and Paul Dano decides to Cruise with Diaz.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs retained the top spot and banked another $24.6 million over the weekend. The animated tale has now made a pretty good $60 million so far.

Bruce Willis had to settle for the runner-up position for Surrogates. The comic book adaptation made a so-so $15 million despite a trim 88 minute running time.

The Fame remake grossed $10 million over the weekend. There’s really nothing that I can say about this.

The Informant brought in a little under $7 million on its second weekend giving the new Matt Damon/Steven Soderbergh team-up $20 million in the bank so far. Off a slim 33% percent from last ...

Blucas & Grace Join Cruise & Diaz In ‘Wichita’

Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Marc Blucas has joined Lost and Taken star Maggie Grace in James Mangold’s Untitled Wichita Project. The action/comedy stars Tom Cruise and his Vanilla Sky co-star Cameron Diaz.

The title of the film isn’t actually called Untitled Wichita Project, it’s just a film project that is currently untitled but was originally called “Wichita.” Do you see what they did there?

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“The project centers on a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.”

Blucas will play Diaz’s ex-boyfriend – a fireman – and Grace will star as her sister who is getting married, and whom Diaz has promised ...

Tom Cruise Jumps Onto Wichita

It’s been a long time coming but it looks like Tom Cruise has finally chosen his next project. The diminutive star is in advanced negotiations to star alongside his Vanilla Sky co-star Cameron Diaz in James Mangold’s Wichita.For the past several months Cruise has been circling several high profile thrillers like David Cronenberg’s The Matarese Circle, Bharat Nalluri‘s The Tourist, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’ The 28th Amendment and Len Wiseman’s Motorcade. All of these films went through multiple rewrites (costing several million dollars) to get them “Tom Ready“.

However, it looks like the star wants to mix some comedy with his action and that’s why he’s chosen Wichita. According to Variety the tagline for the comedy-thriller is simple:

Tom Cruise Career Update: Getting His Scripts ‘Tom-Ready’

The world’s smallest biggest movie star Tom Cruise is a man who does not make decisions lightly. The couch jumping fiend is still mulling over his next film projects.

Currently Cruise has four potential projects in development, with studios spending HUGE amounts of money paying top-tier writers to help tailor the scripts to meet Cruise’s needs.

The four films in the top gun’s firing line include Motorcade, The Tourist, The Matarese Circle and Wichita (with Vanilla Sky co-star Cameron Diaz). Two potential films that have been dropped from his list of potentials include The 28th Amendment (to be directed by (Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck), and the romantic comedy Lost For Words (set to be helmed by Susanne Bier). It really is a war of the words.
