Today, the Daily Mail released some photos taken from the set of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
Today, the Daily Mail released some photos taken from the set of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. While these aren’t the first photos we’ve seen pop up from the set, it is the first time we get to see photos of Michael Douglas’ first day reprising the roll of his iconic character, Gordon Gecko.

Not to give all the attention to Mr. “Fancy Pants” (That’s my nickname for Douglas. What? Sir enjoys fancy pants.), More photos were released showing Shia LaBeouf filming a scene with Frank Langella as they stroll through the park. In the film, Shia plays Jacob Moore, a young stockbroker with Langella as his mentor, Lewis Zabel.

Back to “Fancy Pants.” For those hoping to lessen Shia’s presence in the film’s sequel, you’re in luck as the film will also follow Gordon Gecko on the lecture circuit as an author after having spent 14 years in prison for insider trading and security fraud. While nothing has been announced, Charlie Sheen is expected to make a cameo as Bud Fox, the stockbroker who took down Gecko in the first film. Still, with Gordon Gecko around and Fox only making a cameo, he’s going to need a new prospect and since the last time Frank Langella heard the words “new prospect” was in 1845 when he was heading out west because of some “new fangled” philosophy called Manifest Destiny, I have a feeling it’s going to be Shia.

After looking at these photos, I have to say that I’m not feeling the new look for Douglas as Gecko. He seems less intimidating, less energetic… pretty much less everything Gordon Gecko was and everything we loved about him. Still, this was just a photo of him hanging around set and I’m hoping that somewhere within himself he has the power to properly bring back this character and when the film starts rolling he’ll deliver an amazing performance.

I like Shia, but that last photo makes me hate every essence of him. What is up with his shoes? I hate to say it, but he looks like a tool. I mean that in the nicest way possible. I’m a huge Shia fan. (Even Stevens all the way!)

What do you think of Gecko’s his new, less hair gel’d look? Do you think Douglas’ performance will garner him another Academy Award? Maybe a nomination? Honestly, what’s up with Shia’s shoes? I still don’t know how I feel about this film, but I’ll watch it none-the-less.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps is set to be released April 23, 2010.

The Two and A Half Men star will film a cameo in the sequel that is set to star the first rate cast of Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Susan Sarandon and Frank Langella.

The film, which starts shooting next week, follows LaBeouf’s Jake Moore as he romances Gordan Gekko’s (Douglas) daughter played by Carey Mulligan.

Alex Young, co-president of production at 20th Century Fox said:

“We sort of started over with the story of a young man who is at the center of it, and how he needs Gordon Gekko’s help to navigate those waters.”

While Stone may have a patchy record (although I do feel that Alexander is highly under-rated and JFK is a masterpiece) I believe that Wall Street 2 just might live up to the iconic and incredibly quotable original. The time is right for the magnifying glass to be placed on world finance and Stone’s critical and paranoid eye might be the right one to be looking through it.

A cameo by Sheen could just be the icing on the cake considering the top tier cast, and it has been a while since Sheen has appeared in a drama (or a good film for that matter).

Could Charlie Sheen be on a Robert Downey Jr.-style career comeback?

Wall Street 2 continues to cast a surprisingly classy set of actors for a movie that’s subtitled Money Never Sleeps. Frank Langella and actress Carey Mulligan were both recently confirmed for the film; now comes word that acclaimed actress Susan Sarandon (The Lovely Bones) will be joining Oliver Stone’s production as well.

Sarandon will reportedly be playing the role of the mother to Shia LaBeouf’s young and upcoming Wall Street trader. If you didn’t already know, Michael Douglas will be reprising his Oscar-winning role as Gordon Gekko for the sequel.

What we know thusfar is that Wall Street 2 will focus on LaBeouf’s character as he tries to rise through the throat-cutting ranks of Wall Street. The young trader eventually falls under the dragon’s wing of Gekko (his wife’s estranged father), now out of prison and making a living on the lecture circuit. While the young trader uses Gekko’s “wisdom” to advance on Wall Street, Gekko uses the young man’s ambition to get closer to his daughter.

Langella’s character is rumored to be an older trader who serves as the “fatherly good mentor.” Likely Sarandon will be the sagely mother in the story – a role she played to (totally underrated) perfection in Speed Racer.

Just kidding with ya .

But still, seriously, I can’t get over how good a cast they’ve amassed for such a horribly-titled movie! I would get excited about this film, except for the fact that they’re pushing it out so fast in order to capitalize on the current economic turmoil that’s tearing through real-life Wall Street. Something tells me that in the end, this film is going to come out looking half-cooked, despite the talents and efforts of its wonderful cast.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps is set to hit theaters on April 23, 2010.

This week:

Aliens invade the box office with District 9; get ready to see more Saw; Elvis talks Bubba Nosferatu; St Elmo’s Fire gets remade; Dennis Quaid and Tim Allen join Ron Shelton in Q School, while Maggie Q looks for a Priest; Godzilla may be going on the warpath again; Sony takes a dose of Doctor Parnassus and Wall Street 2 adds another cast member.

Box Office

It looks like originality won out at the box office for a change. Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 banked a cool $37 million over the weekend. The Peter Jackson produced Sci-Fi film had a negative cost of just $30 million and with great reviews it looks like this could do well in the long run too.

GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra had an average drop from last weekend’s surprisingly high take. Down just around 60% (which is pretty middle of the road for a second weekend), the Stephen Sommer’s summer film took just shy of $23 million. It’s knocking at the door of $100 million already and with decent international grosses it looks like ‘franchise’ is the word.

The Time Traveler’s Wife had a softer opening than expected making away with just $18 million. The Eric Bana/ Rachel McAdams romantic science fiction drama just looks terrible!

Meryl Streep’s Julie & Julia was in fourth place after cooking up $12.5 million. With almost $45 million in the pot so far this kitchen comedy should do well in weekday plays.

Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force finally hit $100 million and The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard should take home about $6 million despite Jeremy Piven selling it like a work horse.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince should take in another $5 million giving the film a total of just under $284 million.

The Ugly Truth should laugh up another $4.5 million while Band Slam made just $3 million despite the new Twilight’s New Moon trailer being attached to prints (ouch!).

.

Movie News

1. For the past few years Autumn arrives and brings with it a new Saw film. The sixth film in the horror franchise opens in October but The Hollywood Reporter is …er… reporting that the writers for that film and next years Saw VII, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have signed on for two(!) more films in the series.

I gave up after the first film, so I can’t imagine I’ll be catching any of these. I wonder when they’ll make the remake?

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

.

2. Ron Perlman spoke to Fangoria Radio and gave some details about when he should be shooting Bubba Nosferatu – the sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep.

The Hellboy star said:

“Well, I have this window that’s about to open. I’ll be done shooting Sons of Anarchy in September, and we’re hoping to get into production on Bubba in my hiatus between seasons two and three. I just spoke to Paul Giamatti and Don Coscarelli this morning, and we’re just moving the ball down the field, trying to get her done.”

Perlman will portray Elvis in the comedy-horror sequel – he replaces Bruce Campbell. Paul Giamatti will star as Elvis’ manager Tom Parker.

.

3. Sick of remakes? Tough.

Joel Schumacher’s 80’s classic St Elmo’s Fire is getting the remake treatment. However this version will be beamed right into your living room as it’s being positioned as a television show. The show will be produced by Schumacher, Topher Grace, Dan Bucatinsky and Jamie Tarses. Bucatinsky has written the show which will air on ABC.

The writer/producer said:

“I feel it is time to re-create ‘Friends’ in the hour long genre and feel like this is the perfect opportunity.”

That quote says it all really.

St Elmo’s Fire is one of Schumacher’s best films (he also wrote it) and this can only sully the films good name. I can only assume that Schumacher is getting a huge wad of cash for putting his name on this.

No word on whether Grace will star – but I can imagine that he will.

.

4. Cinematic sporting go-to guy Ron Shelton has signed on to direct Q School. The Tin Cup director will helm Dennis Quaid and Tim Allen in the golfing comedy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“School is described as a comedy in which a group of hopefuls battle it out in a competition to make the PGA Tour, with both their game and their personal lives sometimes ending up in the drink along the way. The title is a reference to qualifying school, an annual tournament in which several hundred aspiring pros compete for a limited number of spots on the following year’s tour.”

Shelton knows sport, following the likes of Bull Durham and White Men Can’t Jump so Quaid and Allen should be in safe hands.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

.

5. Actress Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard) will be starring in Priest alongside Paul Bettany (Legion) and Cam Gigandet (Pandorum). The film takes place on a world torn by a vampire/human war in which a lone warrior priest (Bettany) and a sheriff (Gigandet) team up to save a young girl from the bloodsucker horde.

Maggi Q will reportedly play a warrior priestess who joins in the quest.

.

6. Bloody-Disgusting is exclusively reporting that Legendary Pictures is in early discussions to bring back everybody’s favorite metropolis mayhem monster Godzilla for another big-screen go-round. So far the talks are allegedly just a free exchange of could-be possibilities, so Godzilla fans don’t go nuts just yet.

Whatever is decided, let’s just hope they do what’s necessary to wipe 1998s version of Godzilla from our collective memories [Shudder].

7. Variety is reporting that the Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group is about to sign on the dotted line to acquire Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which the studio will likely distribute in theaters through its Sony Pictures Classics branch, maybe as early as this year.

That’s good news for Gilliam and Co., as the fate of Doctor Parnassus has been uncertain since its star Heath Ledger passed away while the film was still in its principal shoot. Actors Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Jude Law all stepped up to fill in for Ledger at various points in the film – if you’d like to see the finished result, check out the full trailer.

.

8. Carey Mulligan will play Gordon Gekko’s daughter in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. The British actress joins Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin and Frank Langella in the Oliver Stone directed sequel.

Mulligan was previously seen in Public Enemies and will be next appear in Brothers alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.

Variety is reporting that Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) is currently in talks to star in Oliver Stone’s forthcoming Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.

Variety is reporting that Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) is currently in talks to star in Oliver Stone’s forthcoming Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.

Wow. That title takes me right back to the 80s.

Langella is reportedly circling the role of Lewis Zabel, an old-school broker who takes actor Shia LaBeouf’s younger broker under his wing. The role is said to be quite pivotal to the plot of the film, which would explain why a heavyweight actor like Langella was being approached to carry the weight.

There’s a bit of confusion as to whether or not the role Langella is considering is the same one that No Country For Old Men stars Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin were both rumored to be up for earlier this year. Variety claims that Brolin is still in talks to join the cast, so we should know which role he’d play sooner before later.

Wall Street 2 will focus on Shia LaBeouf’s character, a young broker trying to navigate the shark-waters of Wall Street. Besides receiving the mentorship of the aforementioned Langella, LaBeouf’s character, Jacob, will get “wise” words from Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas, reprising his Oscar-winning role), who has served 14-years for insider trading and security fraud and is making his living on the lecture circuit. Jacob will be married to Gekko’s estranged daughter, Winnie – a role that actress Carrey Mulligan is rumored to be up for. While Jacob will gets words from the master, Gekko will be trying to get closer to his daughter. ABC, baby…

Personally, I’m still on the fence about this whole Wall Street 2 business (no pun). The flick has gone from wishful thinking, to rumor, to actuality, to “Coming to theaters April, 23 2010!” in the blink of an eye. Everybody around the blogosphere has already chimed in on the obvious ploy by Fox to try to push this movie out quick, while financial turmoil is still all the rage.

Talk about classy…

Well, one guy who IS classy is Frank Langella. What do you think about him joining the cast of Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps?

I swear, that title makes me want to turn on a synthesizer and pull on a pair of high-tops.

Box Office

Jerry Bruickheimer’s G-Force shot into the number one position this week with a weekend take of $32 million. The Disney family film looks set to hit the $100 million mark giving Bruickheimer another century hit.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had to settle for second place over the weekend. Down 60% from last weekend, the wonderful wizard flick brought in another $30 million, giving the Warner Bros pic a magical gross of almost $222 million. Factor in the $405 million that the film has made elsewhere around the world, the latest Potter epic has conjured up an astonishing $627 million in just over two weeks! It looks like Harry Potter will grab the 2009 box office crown from Transformers 2.

The Katherine Heigl/ Gerard Butler romantic comedy The Ugly Truth also had an impressive opening of $27 million.

The Joel Silver produced horror film Orphan scared-up an average $12 million over the weekend. The budget should be low and DVD rentals and sales will be high, so anyone with profit participation should be happy in the end.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs melted over 50%, with a gross of $8 million. With $171 million in the bank this looks to be a strong franchise for Fox.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen banked another $8 million, giving the Megan Fox/ Shia LaBeouf starrer a huge total gross of $379 million. A final gross of $400 million is pretty much guaranteed. Ker-ching!

The Hangover keeps hanging around. The R-rated comedy laughed up another $6.5 million, giving the film a massive $247 total gross.

Sandra Bullock’s The Proposal also laughed up another $6.4 million. The film has so far grossed an impressive $140 million.

Michael Mann’s Public Enemies shot up another $4 million. With $88 million robbed from cinema-goers so far it looks like this will need all of Johnny Depp’s charm to hit $100 million.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno squeezed out just under $3 million, bringing its total to $56 million. A final gross of just over $60 million should be something of a disappointment for all involved, but not unexpected.

Movie News

1. Mila Kunis is set to star opposite Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.

The supernatural drama will follow Portman’s Ballerina whose rival may or may not be a figment of her imagination. Kunis will star as the rival Lilly.

Kunis has quite a few films on the way; the Mike Judge directed Extract with Ben Affleck and the Denzel Washington starring The Book of Eli.

Black Swan starts shooting this fall.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

2. It has been known for quite a while, but now someone has confirmed it – Michael Keaton will voice Ken in Toy Story 3. Director Lee Unkrich announced the news at Comic Con.

Now somebody get the man a really good live action role. Please.

Source: Coming Soon

3. ComingSoon.net announced in an “exclusive” that Kurt Russell would be joining the cast of the Red Dawn remake, however the story has since vanished from the site.

Could the Big Trouble In Little China star be joining the Dan Bradley directed action flick?

At this point it could swing either way. Maybe the deal wasn’t closed and someone was worried that Russell might not follow through, or maybe it was total BS and Comingsoon dropped the story to save face.

Whatever the case once we know – you’ll know.

Source: Coming Soon

4. David Cronenberg will direct an adaptation of Don DeDillo’s Cosmopolis. The film follows a 28 year-old billionaire who crosses New York for a haircut. I’m pretty sure there’s more to the plot than that, but you never know. The film will shoot in 2010, and no cast has signed…yet.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter

5. According to the all knowing Nikki Finke Josh Brolin has been offered a role in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2. Javier Bardem was originally in the frame to play the “villain” role in the film, but it looks like Stone will be re-teaming with his W star.

It looks like 2010 might be another big year for Brolin as he also has Jonah Hex on the way.

Michael Douglas and Shia LaBoeuf will also star in the film that currently has the title Money Never Sleeps.

While doing the press rounds for the forthcoming Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen Shia LaBeouf has been talking about his up and coming projects. The young star has revealed that a new Indiana Jones film is on the way and that he is excited to be starring in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps opposite Michael Douglas.

With regards to the fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise La Beouf said:

“Steven just said that he cracked the story on it before I left and I think they’re gearing that up.”

This doesn’t mean that the film is anywhere near production. It took a decade before Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford agreed on a script before The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hit the screen. Now if you throw LaBeouf into the mix the process becomes even more complicated.

Having said that – money talks in Hollywood. Last summer’s installment of the Indy franchise grossed almost $800 million, so I’d bet that we’ll see a fifth film sooner rather than later with LaBeouf returning as Indy’s son. It was recently revealed that Harrison Ford received $65 million for starring in the sequel!

Speaking of money, LaBeouf said that Money Never Sleeps is now the official title for the Wall Street sequel to be directed by Oliver Stone.

So what do you think about another Indiana Jones movie considering how the last one turned out?

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen starring LaBeouf and Megan Fox opens on June 24.

Pixar’s UP stayed on top of the box office with a second weekend gross of $44 million. With great reviews and $137 million already in the bank, it looks like UP will be one of the biggest hits of the summer season. The R-rated comedy The Hangover opened strong in second place with a weekend take of $43 million. With a sequel already in development, it looks like a weekend that Warner Bros. doesn’t want to forget.

Speaking of hangovers – Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost opened to a pretty lackluster $19 million. Looks like the films chances of turning a profit are history. [NOTE: Parents Beware, Land of the Lost is not for kids. Though it's been advertised that way, the movie is full of adult humor.]

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian banked another $14 million giving the Ben Stiller family comedy a total of $127 million.

Star Trek amassed another $8 million for a grand total of $222 million. It looks like it might cling-on (geddit?) to the top ten for another couple of weeks.

Terminator Salvation finally crossed the $100 million marker after taking $8 million over the weekend. Although the domestic gross is low compared to the previous two entries in the franchise, the international openings for the film read higher than T3. A sequel should be on the way if the accountants are happy.

Drag Me to Hell fell down the charts with a second weekend take of $7 million. With $28 million in the bank so far, this has to be a disappointment for Sam Raimi.

Angels & Demons raked in another $6 million giving the Tom Hanks film a $116 million total gross. Again, international sales are strong and because of this we might see a sequel – but it’ll have a cheaper production cost that will probably be at the expense of Hanks’ and Ron Howard’s participation.

My Life in Ruins and Dance Flick round out the top ten while Wolverine took another $1.8 million giving the Hugh Jackman franchise film a total of $174 million.

.

Movie News

1. Brokeback Mountain duo Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are set to reunite in Love And Other Drugs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Gyllenhaal will play the salesman, who begins a relationship with a woman who has Parkinson’s (Hathaway) while on one of his sales calls. Their love story plays out in the political and social context of the time.”

Sounds like a barrel of laughs.

Director Ed Zwick (Defiance) hopes to start shooting in the fall.

Source: Hollywood Reporter

2. Mary-Kate Olsen, Alex Pettyfer and High School Musical’s Vanessa Hudgens will star in Beastly a modern teen retelling of Beauty and the Beast:

“Olsen’s character places a curse on a handsome egocentric young man, to be portrayed by Pettyfer, who’s physically transformed into everything he despises.”

The Daniel Barnz directed film starts shooting in Montreal on June 13th.

Source: Variety

3. Sigourney Weaver has signed up to star in two new comedies.

Weaver has joined the cast of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s alien-comedy Paul in an unknown role. The Greg Mottola film details the story of two science fiction fans who discover an alien near Area 51.

In You Again the actress will star opposite Kristen Bell. According to Variety:

“Bell will play a young woman who returns home for her brother’s wedding and is horrified to find he’s marrying her high school nemesis. Weaver will play the bride’s filthy-rich aunt.”

Weaver will next be seen a low-budget science fiction film directed by a first-timer named James Cameron. The film is Avatar.

Source: Variety
4. Brad Siberling has been taking up a Lemony Snicket sequel while he has been out doing the press rounds for Land of The Lost.

Speaking to IESB, Siberling said a sequel to the 2004 Jim Carrey-starrer may be on the cards but due to the time lag it would appear that the film will more than likely be animated (stop-motion being the most likely option).

Jim Carrey may still be involved if the film ever materializes.

Source: IESB.net

5. Javier Bardem is negotiations to join Julia Roberts in the film version of Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir Eat, Pray, Love.

“Roberts plays the author, and Bardem will play Felipe, the man Gilbert meets and falls in love with on the final leg of a journey of self-discovery that began with the end of her marriage.”

Ryan Murphy will direct the film that is being produced by Brad Pitt.

Bardem is also on Oliver Stone’s wish list for Wall Street 2.

That’s it for now. See you at the movies.

1. No Wall Street For Old Men.

Oliver Stone and 20th Century Fox want Javier Bardem to star opposite Michael Douglas and Transformer 2 Shia LaBeouf in Wall Street 2.
Whilst Bardem hasn’t met with Stone or the studio as of yet, the Spanish star is at the top of their wish list to play the villain in the sequel to the Oscar-winning hit.

Apparently the plot of the movie involves LaBeouf’s character seeking revenge on (what would be) Bardem’s evil stock trader. In order to navigate the choppy waters of Wall Street the kid befriends Douglas’ Gordon Gecko who has been released from prison following the shenanigans of the first film. The pair form an unlikely friendship as Gecko tries to rebuild his relationship with his daughter, who is the fiance of LaBeouf’s character.

The original is a highly-rated 1980’s classic (though a bit dated) and I’m interested to see what Stone, Douglas et al bring to the table in these troubled financial times.

Wall Street 2 starts shooting in August, hopefully for a February 2010 release.

Source: Deadline Hollywood

.

2. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are in negotiations for Scream 4 (or whatever they end up calling it). It’s expected that the couple will only have cameos or supporting roles in the film that is being aimed at a younger demographic.

Kevin Williamson is penning the Scream 4 script (and allegedly two more sequels that would form a companion trilogy to the 90’s franchise).

There’s no word on whether director Wes Craven will Scream again or if Neve Campbell will return.

Source: Entertainment Weekly

.

3. Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of The Kung-Fu Kid.
Henson will play the mother of Jaden (son of Will) Smith, who plays the titular kid.
Jackie Chan is signed-on play the 21st Century Mr. Myiagi, who has incidentally been renamed Mr Han in this remake of the 80’s coming-of-age drama, The Karate Kid.

I still ask the question – why?

Source: Slash Film

.

4. Moon director Duncan Jones will direct Escape From the Deep.
According to Variety:

“Escape” tells the (true) story of a legendary World War II U.S. navy submarine that sank after a torpedo malfunction, leaving the crew stranded on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Faced with drowning, nine men made it out alive after swimming the 180 feet to the surface without getting the bends.”

Alex Kershaw wrote the script from his book of the same name.

FYI: Jones is the son of legendary recording artist David Bowie.

.

5. Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, along with Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper, Lost’s Emilie de Ravin and possibly Lena Olin will star in Allen Coulter’s Remember Me.

“Pattinson plays a young man whose brother’s suicide has split up his parents (Brosnan and Olin) and left him sleepwalking through life. De Ravin will play a young woman who, after watching her mother get killed before her eyes, seizes life to its fullest. Cooper is being courted to play her father.”

Sounds like Oscar bait.

6. Shooting has started on Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks and Total Film had some onset snaps of the production. Check out one below:

Bruce Willis looks exactly like…er…Bruce Willis!

Kevin Pollack has recently joined the cast of the comedy that already includes Tracy Morgan, Seann William Scott and Adam Brody.

(P.S. – look at that photo, do Willis and Morgan make for an odd couple or what?)

It might be a Hollywood motto but it’s also a legendary line from Oliver Stone’s seminal 80’s corporate thriller, Wall Street. The film helped make the movie careers of Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen (to mixed success); it defined an era and influenced pretty much every film since that has involved money, stocks, shares and corruption by big business – a prime example being 2000’s Bolier Room with Vin Diesel and Ben Affleck.

Now it looks like Douglas’s Gordon Gecko is set to return to the bigscreen in Wall Street 2. However this time his protege won’t be bad boy Charlie Sheen but rather Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen star (and up and coming Indiana Jones Jr.), Shia LaBeouf.

LaBeouf’s crack team of entertainment gurus are currently negotiating with 20th Century Fox for the young actor to join the Wall Street sequel, which will again be helmed by director Oliver Stone. Douglas will also return for the sequel, reprising the role that won him his second Oscar (his first is for producing One Flew Over The Cukoo’s Nest).

The original Wall Street starred Douglas as greedy investment banker who takes a young Charlie Sheen under his wing and shows him the ways of 1980’s Yuppie-dom (google it). Allan Loeb will pen the script for the sequel – odd considering that the original film was written by Stone who was inspired by his own father’s career in the stock exchange.

Michael Douglas will be seeing green again in Wall Street 2

Wall Street 2 will also reflect the current economic crisis, which has helped the film gain new momentum on the Fox backlot, ever since it was announced (and stalled) a few years ago.

In my eyes Douglas is one of the few leading men in Hollywood with a clean record sheet. His starring roles are all worth watching – including his lesser efforts – and LaBeouf is on the verge of big things. He may actually be over the verge and already be a full blown leading man, once Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen hits theaters.

Douglas will next be seen opposite Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

More on Wall Street 2 when we get it. It’s expected to be released in 2010.
